98%

Signals

The video features a distinct human narrator with natural speech variations, personal opinions, and real-time reactions to the software being demonstrated. The content predates the widespread availability of high-quality AI video/voice generation and exhibits none of the robotic pacing or formulaic scripting associated with AI content farms.

Natural Speech Patterns The transcript contains natural self-corrections and personal interjections such as 'I appreciate this will not be of interest to everyone' and 'I'm actually quite interested in it myself'.
Contextual Improvisation The narrator reacts in real-time to the map geolocation ('which is not where i am at all... that's about where my ip address is'), showing spontaneous human observation.
Historical Context and Opinion The narrator references specific community sentiments regarding the 'Unity desktop' and compares it to current GNOME trends, reflecting a long-term human perspective on the Linux ecosystem.
Channel Authenticity The channel 'quidsup' has a long history (dating back to 2020 and earlier) of consistent, niche technical reviews with a distinct personal voice and established social media presence.

Worth Noting

Positive elements

  • This video provides a practical, evidence-based assessment of whether specific hardware (Ryzen 3/Tiger Lake) or enterprise needs (Active Directory) justify an OS upgrade.

hello everyone here are the changes for ubuntu 20.10 which is codenamed groovy gorilla groovy gorilla is an interim release and will be sported for the next nine months it has the rather unenviable position of following on from a rather good long-term support release and here is one of the important changes the ability to integrate with active directory at install time i appreciate this will not be of interest to everyone but it does allow an ubuntu system to integrate with a windows heavy enterprise environment so i'm actually quite interested in it myself because i would rather use ubuntu than windows 10. a dialog box is presented in the ubiquiti system installer that allows you to select the ad integration under the hood we have linux kernel 5.8 of which notable changes include the support for the next generation of cpus which is the amd zen3 intel tiger lake and power 10. although we can expect the linux 5.8 kernel to be back ported to ubuntu 2004 which was the long term support release we also get the messa 20.2.0 graphics drivers as well as the option to install the nvidia 455 drivers at time of recording this is one version ahead of ubuntu 2004 under the hood iptables has been replaced by nf tables this change had already taken place in debian about a year ago but from an end user perspective your interface for the ubuntu firewall will be through ufw vader terminal or grfw on the desktop in terms of showing fault for a windows network this is done with samba in linux and the version of samba we have in ubuntu 2010 has been uplifted to version 4.12 which now packs the gnu tls utility for encryption what that means is that file transfers via smb3 with encryption will be four to six times faster than earlier versions of samba there's some definite classes here with ubuntu 2010 in terms of integration in the windows environment gnome has been uplifted to version 3.38 which is code named orbis in terms of new features you have the ability to drag and reorder applications although you always have the ability to put applications in folders you now have the ability to reorder them around on this screen let's say files is the most common application i want to access so i'm going to put it at the top with firefox next to it in the networking audio and power off menu on the top right hand side as the power off log out this menu has been changed slightly by the canonical developers and they've added the full selection of options here in terms of powering off so suspend restart and power off or log out and switch user this is all accessible under one menu in terms of changes with some of the gnome specific applications the clock menu although this is not the same clock menu that you would get by simply left clicking on the clock at the top of the screen no this is a separate application you have to install they've changed a view here of settings of adding a new clock now i suspect some of these application changes have gone the way of being more for use in mobile phones now this is something many people disliked in the way that ubuntu went with the unity desktop although i suppose it's funny that gnome have ended up going the same direction being usable on a mobile phone so the applications have changed a bit for example here on maps when you move towards a phone size screen the settings have reorientated so to make it accessible yeah on the narrow side screen but yeah if you're on a tablet or desktop size then the buttons will be at the top i see there's night mode as well as well as they had the option of using different layers so you've got satellite view as well so just zoom in a little bit on the area where they think i am which is not where i am at all but then again it's probably using geolocation via ip address and i can accept that because that's about where my ip address is there's new parental controls added so you can restrict what other users do on the system so this is meant to be for restricting what children can do on the system so i can block application installation restrict certain applications although it's not really found any applications to restrict which is strange because i've added a few to the system but we can at least restrict web browsers and since i'm running out of ideas a bit i did notice the styling had changed slightly on terminal just the colors there for the user and system name although it's kept with a traditional purple and white the gnome games launch has received some performance improvements but this is an additional application you would have to install it is not included in the pre-installed applications it's useful if you're into emulation gaming i certainly am but i don't have anything to hand set up on this test system and that was a look at some of the changes there's been in this new version ubuntu 2010 other than the active directory integration i don't think there's a huge amount offered over previous releases of ubuntu but if you're someone who enjoys being on a bleeding edge then ubuntu 2010 could be worth installing or if you've got a brand new cpu then again that is another reason to install but otherwise i wouldn't be in a huge rush to leave the safety of the long term support release thanks for watching and i'll see you all later [Music] you
