M5 Pro [music] versus Panther Lake. Can Intel's best new laptop chip compete with the second best chip from Apple? This right here is the brand new $2,400 16in Galaxy Book 6 Ultra with the Intel X7358H [music] Panther Lake chip, and we're comparing it to the brand new $2700 16in [music] M5 Pro MacBook Pro. And I've got to say, this Samsung laptop is probably the best 16-in Windows laptop I've ever seen. It's actually a little bit thinner compared to the MacBook Pro, and it's a lot lighter. I love the display. You can see right here, nice and thin bezels compared to the MacBook Pro, which yes, it has the notch, but this is a tandem OLED display with 500 nits standard brightness, 1,000 nits peak HDR, while the MacBook Pro can actually go up to 1,000 sustained standard brightness if you're outdoors, up to 1,600 nits, but it's not OLED, it's miniLEDD. And in terms of the designs, it almost looks like Samsung copied the design of the MacBook. It looks almost the same. Even this right here. Yes, the keyboard looks a little bit different. I like that they had the speaker grills integrated right here. And best of all, the diving board trackpad is officially dead. This is a force [music] touch trackpad, and I've got to say, it feels awesome. So, with that said, let's jump into our testing. And yes, both of these are charged up to 100%. So, let me go ahead and unplug the Galaxy Book and the MacBook Pro. We're going to test the battery life. And yes, I'm going to do it at 100% brightness on both, high power mode on the MacBook Pro. This is going to get interesting. First things first, [music] the speaker comparison because Samsung says they packed in a six speakeraker system in the Galaxy Book just like we have on the MacBook Pro. So, let's see if it's any good. [music] Started [music] out. [music] >> All right, Samsung. That was close. These sound really, really good, but nowhere near as good as the MacBook Pro. I'm sorry. These are louder. Everything sounds better. The separation of frequencies is better. However, this is probably one of the best Windows laptops I've ever heard in terms of speaker. But one thing I am noticing, if I look on this display, dang, the Tandem OLED looks good. These blacks are so deep black. Compared to the MacBook Pro, I'm seeing a lot more gray, like glow, like that halo effect around all of this here. It does not look as black. And wait a minute, the anti-reflectivity coating on the Samsung is better. I can see my reflection better on the MacBook Pro, which is a bad thing, and it looks gray compared to really deep black. And now, the Galaxy Book 6 Ultra does have a 1080p webcam, but looking at it, it looks pretty dang bad. Like, the colors and contrast, tons of this blue noise on the side looks strange. And then here is the center stage webcam on the 16-inch MacBook Pro. You can see that when you move to the side, it kind of follows you. So, if you have multiple people, it'll spread out. Let me know how this microphone sounds in comparison to the Galaxy Book. Now, in terms of the ports, they both have HDMI 2.1 and SDXC. They both have Thunderbolt ports, but the MacBook Pro has three Thunderbolt 5 ports compared to only two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the Galaxy Book. While the MacBook Pro has a magnetic MacSafe 3 port, which I love. It also gives it 140 watt fast charging while you got to use USBC with a 100 watt limit on the Galaxy Book. But this also comes with a legacy USBA 3.2 port. And for our first test, this right here is a custom DIY Thunderbolt 5 SSD. Transfer this 46 gig folder and see how long it takes. Bam. 7 seconds. Holy smokes. What the flip? It's just nonresponsive. It just froze. Update. Are you kidding me? That literally came out of nowhere. No warning, nothing. It just restarted. And unfortunately, it does not show up. All right. Finally got it to work. I had to reformat it as XFAT. So, let's do the same transfer test. And there you go. It just finished 27 seconds. Essentially, four times slower with Thunderbolt 4. And now let's test the speed of the actual internal SSDs on both. 13,500 read on the M5 Pro compared to 7,000 on the Panther Lake Galaxy Book. And then look at the right. 15,600 compared to 5800. That's almost triple. And now let's get into CPU performance with Geekbench 6. You can see we have the M5 Pro. This is the 18 core upgraded version which you have to get if you want the 16 in compared to the Ultra X7358H [music] Panda Lake. It's a 16 core chip. Let's run the CPU benchmark. And holy flipping moly, 4,300 single core on the M5 Pro compared to 2900. 47% [music] higher single core for an extra $300. But wait, it gets even crazier. 28,600 multi-core compared to 17,000 68% higher multicore for 300 bucks. This actually scores a little bit better than the other Panther [music] Lake chip in the ASUS Expert Book Ultra. That's nuts. So, how is that going to translate to realworld performance? Well, this is speedometer 3.1, a web browsing benchmark, which pretty much is going to show us how snappy it's going to feel day-to-day. And dang, 59.47 compared to 38 on the Panther Lake. That's 57% more snappy. And now, of course, let's test some web design using Figma. This is a project provided to us by 500 designs, one of the best design and marketing agencies in the US. So, let's [music] export 12 of these high quality pages. All right, it took a minute 19 seconds on the M5 Pro, and dang, a minute 26 on the Galaxy Book 6 Ultra, only 7 seconds longer. Not that bad. And now moving on to the graphics. In Geekbench 6, the M5 Pro has a 20 core GPU compared to the B390 [music] on the Panther Lake. That's the best GPU you can get. And dang, look at that. 137,000 on the M5 Pro, 56,000 on the Panther Lake. [music] That's 2 1/2 times more RAW graphics performance. So, now let's jump into 3D Mark's Steel Nomad Light to essentially get a good feel of its [music] gaming performance. And holy smokes, guys. 75.3 FPS on the MacBook Pro, 14.9 FPS on the Panther [music] Lake integrated GPU. That's five times higher FPS. That is kind of insane. Now, the Galaxy Book 6 Ultra also has an option that comes with an Nvidia RTX 5060 laptop GPU that's $3,000. So, that's about $300 more expensive than this MacBook. So, if you care about graphics, absolutely get that dedicated graphics because the Panther Lake is not keeping up. You know what? Let's also run Solar Bay Extreme, which is essentially testing ray tracing. And there you go. That's more like it. 31.52 FPS [music] on Panther Lake with ray tracing compared to 62.9 on the M5 Pro. That's basically twice as much FPS. [music] That's actually pretty impressive for Panther Lake integrated. Not bad. And now let's get into some 3D video rendering [music] with Blender. This right here is the party tug project and I'm going to be doing cycles GPU with ray tracing enabled on both which yes this has one API which supports ray tracing. So let's go ahead and click render image on both of these. And dang impressive 49 seconds on the Panther Lake chip compared to 30 on the M5 Pro. So this was quite a bit faster. But honestly, with integrated graphics, that's really, really impressive. And I bet you that if you got the Nvidia GPU with this laptop, it would be faster than the M5 Pro. But now, I want to take this test to the extreme with the Swamp Project. And wow, that took forever. The test is finally done. Took 13 minutes 58 seconds on the Panther Lake chip, 6 minutes 57 on the M5 Pro. That makes it over twice as fast. And now let's get into some AI performance testing. This is just basically Geekbench AI. We're going to be running the GPU test. CoreML on the M5 Pro, Open Veno GPU on the Panther Lake. And wo, I was not expecting that. Based on everything else, the Panther Lake got a higher quantized score, 57,700 compared to 34,000. I wonder if that's with the optimizations with Open Veno, but good job. That's awesome, Panther Lake. And now, let's move on to photo editing in Lightroom Classic. You can see right here that we have full acceleration supported on both the M5 Pro and the Panther Lake chip. So, our standard test is to export 50 of these 42 megapixel raw photos on both. 20 seconds on the M5 Pro, 66 seconds [music] on the Panther Lake with that B390 GPU. The M5 Pro is over three times as fast. Let's go from 50 photos to 500. [music] And you know what? While this is running, I want to open up the activity monitor and task manager and look at the memory. Looks like we're using about 20 gigs of memory on the M5 Pro. Now on the Panther [music] Lake, we have 32 gigs and it looks like we are using about 19. All right, guys. Believe it or not, the M5 Pro is almost done. And the most interesting thing is that the fans are basically idling this entire time when the N5 Pro, while the Galaxy Book is pretty dang loud. And the Galaxy Book 6 Ultra with Panther Lake is [music] finally done. Took 11 minutes and 43 seconds compared to 4 minutes and 43 [music] on the M5 Pro MacBook Pro. That is well over twice as [music] fast. That is just crazy. And now for our final test, we have Cinebench 2026. All right, we got MX Power open right here. You can see 4.38 [music] GHz on the M cluster. That's the new super cores. [music] Very, very fast. Looks like we've got 3.49 GHz. You can see the fans [music] fully maxed out on the M5 Pro. It actually sounds louder than the Galaxy Book. The Galaxy Book is a little bit quieter. And looking at hardware monitor, we're getting 62 watts of power usage right now on Panther [music] Lake. That's actually the max. We're at 56 and that's 70 on the M5 Pro. Looking at the MacBook Pro, the hottest point I'm seeing is about 38 degrees C. Wow, it's staying very, very cool. You can see the hot spot where the fan is getting rid of that air. Now, over on the Galaxy Book, I just saw 39° Celsius. Dang, this thing is actually hotter. All right, the test is finished. And holy smokes, guys. 4538 on the Panther Lake laptop. 9,100 on the M5 Pro. Exactly two times higher and I used quite a lot more power because of course remember I'm in high power mode. Two times higher performance. And now with all of those tests finally finished, it's time to look at the battery life. I unplugged these machines at 3:12 p.m. It's now 6:57. So that's 3 hours and 45 minutes of heavy testing on both of these. Let's take a look at the MacBook. Looks like we have 7%. And over on the Galaxy Book 6 Ultra, 8% battery life, slightly better than the MacBook Pro. And believe it or not, this has an 80Wh hour battery compared to 100 W hours on the MacBook Pro. So, this is actually really, [music] really impressive. But on the other hand, the MacBook Pro was faster in almost every single way. I mean 68% faster multi-core performance in Geekbench, but two times faster in terms of CPU rendering in Cinebench. Every single other test except for the AI was faster on the MacBook Pro. This also does have a brighter display consistently throughout the test, you can see this is brighter standard brightness. It also has 3.5K resolution compared to 2.8K. And of course, we've been using high power mode, which automatic would be more efficient. this battery life super super impressive. Great job Samsung on the efficiency and Intel with your Panther Lake. But if you factor everything in, for example, the SSDs [music] being two to three times faster on the MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 5 [music] having basically four times faster transfer speeds. The speakers were better on the MacBook Pro, especially for just $300 more than the Galaxy 6 Book Ultra. I would definitely recommend getting that Nvidia GPU, which is $3,000 for this machine because it's going to improve a lot of those graphics tasks. Now, what did impress me with this laptop is, of course, the design. It was thinner. It's lighter. The display is amazing. Tandem OLED looks great. [music] Anti-reflectivity was better on this as well. And it has the advantage of running Windows, and it's an x86 chip, which means you can actually play games. So, with that said, let me know your thoughts down in the comment section below because I'm honestly very impressed with this laptop. Overall, it did a pretty dang good job keeping up with the new MacBook [music] Pro with the M5 Pro.
