I Built the THINNEST Street Legal Car

I built the thinnest street legal car and it is an absolute blast to drive around town. >> Yeah. No, >> we got a small car. >> I posted this sneak peek of the car on Instagram and it went crazy. Today we're going to take the old Ford, cut it in half with a laser, get everything working again, and take it on its first cruise downtown. Let's get started. This is our donor vehicle. It is a 1988 Ford Festiva. This is one of the smallest and most pathetic cars ever made. Oh yeah, we're going to make it even smaller and more pathetic looking. Lots of room in here. Actually, we're going to cut it twice and then we're going to sandwich the halves back together. Everything has to come out of the interior before we can cut it. >> Yeah. You see the problem with this engine anyway is it's too wide. Our whole car is going to be this wide. >> How not to pull it in. >> This is how I always do it. >> We got to get all this glue out of here. This stuff is so hard to get rid of. But I heard of this little trick that if you put dry ice in here, it'll freeze all the glue and you can just bust it up. We don't have any dry ice. So, we are going to use this handheld laser cutter to cut the Fiva into three pieces. Has anyone ever laser cut a car in half before? Oh man, this is going to be so sweet. Like these are off of a real car. We've adapted them over to our axle shaft. Ooh. That's awesome. It's like 100 lb. We built an NH Dragster rear end for this 20 horsepower car. Oh my gosh. Big cluck. Stay out of here. The handlebars are wider than the car. This is for sure going to have enough power. This is going to be awesome because we'll be able to pull out the battery and charge it. And I have two of them so we can swap it in and keep driving. I'm going to miss this dirt bike, though. All right, let's take it all apart. Here's all the parts we need out of that - motor, controller, yada yada. Let's put it in. I could watch this thing run all day. It is so cool. From the computer to a complete part in five minutes. I've been using metal working tools for 10 years now, and I've never used anything like this handheld laser cutter. It is like something out of Star Wars. No, no, no, no. Made with actual aluminum material. This is sick. We had lots of trouble with the bugs flying into the paint. Other than that, I think we did a pretty good job for being outside. We're going to start taking the tape off cuz I don't have any patience. We just got finished. Oh, yes, sir. Oh, yeah. Get there. This battery is going to power all the 12vt stuff like the lights and horn. After wiring for several hours, I 3D scanned the dash and the front end, put it in CAD and designed all the 3D printed parts to hold the headlights in and the new dash. We have the doors on.
