Positive elements

  • This video provides a critical historical perspective on the recurring pattern of U.S. alliances with Kurdish groups and the potential regional consequences of proxy warfare.

Be Aware

Cautionary elements

  • The use of 'catastrophizing' language to bridge the gap between a specific policy (arming proxies) and an inevitable total war (Vietnam-scale casualties).

The whole idea about an about a ground invasion of Iran is is so stupid it would cause heaven to grow hair. Now the CIA, it's been said and Trump are um they're they're going to arm the Kurds now and try to get the Kurds. Well, here's here's what they're saying in at at Fox News. >> This just in. It's big. A US official telling Fox, "Thousands of Iraqi Kurds have launched a ground offensive in Iran. Decimated, destroyed, defeated." All words the Pentagon used to describe Iran's various military forces. On day five of Operation Epic Fury moments ago, President Trump. So, uh, Trump is backing the Kurdish militants against Iranian government. Uh, President Trump is open to backing them, says the WA's Wall Street Journal saying this. Among the groups Trump is considering supporting are Kurdist forces based in Iraq who have thousands of troops along the Iran Iraq border. An idea raised by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a White House meeting with the president. When he first came over and sat with Trump for hours, you would have thought Netanyahu had it all figured out. He had a successor planned out. He had the Kurds all figured out. Two sets of Kurdish groups here and there. This many people are going up to rise. The Axios report said that Trump spoke with the leaders of two main Kurdist factions in Iraq, which was confirmed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which is based in Iraqi Kurdistan, which the US maintains a military presence. The UK's ITV News reported on Tuesday that since last year, weapons have been smuggled into western Iran to arm thousands of Kurdish volunteers. They are expected to begin a ground operation within days. The outlet cited Kurdish sources who said the US and Israel have been asked to provide air support when the operations begin. CNN later reported that the CIA was working to arm Kurdish forces with the aim of fmenting a popular uprising in Iran during the protest in Iran in January. Reports said that Kurdish fighters from Iraq were entering Iran and clashing with Iranian forces. The Kurdish Freedom Party or PAC, a Kurdish Iranian separatist group mainly based in Iraq, was claiming that its armed wing was fighting against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or the IRGC. And um so that's what they're doing. What it to me it sounds like uh they're trying to create a civil war inside Iran. Well, this is what John Schwarz says. He says, "If Trump arms the Kurds to try to create a civil war in Iran, we can be sure what will happen next. Turkey or Iraq or Syria will get mad about it and we'll let the Kurds get slaughtered. The exact scenario has played out eight times in the past 100 years. So, what do you make of all this, Dennis? >> I think that's true. I think that uh uh you know, if you want to draw Turkey into this war, uh it's not going to be pretty. And Turkey, you know, Erdogan is not anybody's fool. He charts his own course. He's totally uh uh totally committed to Islam and he's not going to be on the outside looking in and what might turn out reality. >> And I think that when we're looking at the um uh at the Kurds, >> yeah, they're just going to be thrown into a meat grinder. And uh and the the whole idea about an about a ground invasion of Iran is is so stupid. it would cause heaven to grow hair because you've got uh Iran there's a reason why uh that uh the Persian Empire had existed for so many years and one of them is geography. If if the United States sends uh attempts to send any of our men and women into combat, so-called boots on the ground in in uh in Iran, uh millions of people need to take to the streets because and they should do it right now, but we must not see a ground war here. It would it would make Iraq and the losses we took in Iraq and Vietnam even 58,000 Americans killed that would pale in comparison to the losses that we would take if we decide to to try to go into war there. And not only that, the war is being precipitated all over the regions. We don't have any friends out there. It's a it's a myth that we have any friends. We have allies as long as we are holding an iron fist. But that grip is th is is is slipping. The US bases in the region are are going to have to be uh shut down or being shut down by military action of Iran. And this will have a ripple effect on US bases all over the world because other countries are going to look at US bases as being a source not of security but of trouble domestically. And that, you know, this whole archipel archipelago of bases around the world, that's going to change. And, you know, some might say, well, that's good. Well, it's it it's not good under these circumstances uh because we're looking at a at at a rising tide of blood around the world as a result of this of this grave uh miscalculation that was done by by either greedy and megalomaniacal individuals or people who were just plain stupid. If you like to hear my jokes about this, come see me in San Antonio, Albuquerque, Houston, Dallas, Salt Lake City. We'll be at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles in April and then Las Vegas and then Tulsa and then Oklahoma City. Video description

Jimmy talks to former Ohio congressman Dennis Kucinich about the dangerously risky U.S. strategy of arming Kurdish militants to provoke a civil war inside Iran, a proxy tactic they argue has historically led to the Kurds being betrayed and slaughtered. Kucinich warns that any ground invasion of Iran would be catastrophically stupid, resulting in American casualties that dwarf Vietnam and Iraq due to Iran's geography and population. The two predict that involving the Kurds could draw Turkey into the conflict, destabilize the region further, and ultimately backfire by making U.S. military bases around the world vulnerable targets. The conversation frames the entire Iran escalation as a reckless miscalculation driven by either megalomania or incompetence, with the Kurdish people once again being used as disposable pawns.
