When I tell people that I study biology and eat 10 eggs before bed every night, they usually think I'm joking or completely insane. But once you understand what eggs actually do inside your body, it becomes clear that they are one of the most powerful foods for supporting your body and helping you look and feel your very best. So today, I'm going to break down the five biological reasons as to why I eat 10 eggs before bed every single day and why at night is one of the best times to eat them. Your body is made up of trillions of tiny cells which dictate how you think, feel, and function. When these cells function properly, everything from your energy to hormone levels improve. Eggs are one of the best foods you can eat to support this process. This is because eggs are super high in a molecule called cholesterol. Now, this is a molecule a lot of people are scared of, but what a lot of people don't understand is that cholesterol is not bad for you. This is an outdated myth. There are studies with millions of participants that show having low cholesterol is a lot worse for you than high cholesterol. There are even metaanalysis studies which have analyzed every study ever done on cholesterol that have concluded cholesterol does not cause any health issues. Here's why cholesterol is so important. Every single cell in your body has something called a cell membrane. This is the outer protective layer of your cell that controls what enters and leaves the cell. Cholesterol actually makes up nearly 50% by weight and volume of every cell membrane in your body. It is what gives the membrane the right balance of strength and flexibility, allowing cells to communicate effectively, regulate nutrients, and maintain stability. This is why your body naturally produces a large amount of cholesterol. Roughly 80% of cholesterol in your body is actually produced by the body itself. Eggs are one of the richest natural sources of dietary cholesterol on the planet. So when you eat eggs, you are supplying your body with one of the exact molecules it uses to build and maintain every single cell you have, which allows these cells to become stronger and work more effectively. On top of this, cholesterol is the building block for many of your hormones. For example, testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone are all made from cholesterol. Without cholesterol, your body cannot make these. And when these hormones are out of balance, it affects your energy levels, mood, recovery, metabolism, and overall health. There is actually a condition called Smith Flemmy opport syndrome where people are born with a genetic defect that severely reduces their ability to produce cholesterol. People born with this condition often experience impaired growth, delays in development, hormone dysfunction, neurological issues, and structural abnormalities. Yes, your body does make a lot of cholesterol, but consuming it from foods like eggs reduces this burden on internal production and helps ensure you have enough available to maintain strong cell membranes and support proper hormone production. A huge amount of the cellular repair and building of your hormones happens whilst you sleep. So when you eat eggs before bed, you're supplying your body with cholesterol at the exact time it's repairing cell membranes and producing hormones. So that's the first reason I eat 10 eggs per day. They are rich in cholesterol, which is essential to how your body functions. Another major reason I eat so many eggs is they can actually improve your mood. I know that sounds like a bold claim, but there's a very specific biological reason this happens that most people don't know about. You see, your brain is constantly sending signals throughout your entire body. Every single thought you have, every movement you make, every memory you recall, all of this happens because of neurotransmitters. These are chemical messengers that allow your brain cells to communicate one with each other and two to the rest of your body. One of the most important neurotransmitters is called acetyloline. This is a neurotransmitter responsible for memory, learning, focus, and even muscle contraction. Without enough acetylcholine, you'll struggle to concentrate. You'll feel mentally foggy and your mood will suffer. Now, here's where eggs come in. To make acetylcholine, your body needs a molecule called choline. And eggs are one of the richest whole food sources of choline on the planet. Just two eggs gives you about 50% of your daily choline needs. So, eggs give your body the raw material it needs to produce this very important neurotransmitter. Another thing choline does is it also supports the parasympathetic nervous system. The quote rest and digest side of your nervous system which is dominant at night. So eating eggs before bed helps shift your body into a calm recovery focused state instead of a stressed and wired one. This is why many people who start eating more eggs notice that they feel mentally clearer and that they're more emotionally balanced. So that's the second reason I eat 10 eggs per day. They're loaded with choline, which directly supports your brain function and mood. A lot of people think they need to eat a huge variety of foods to get all their nutrients. But the reality is, as long as you're eating the right foods, you don't need nearly as much variety as you think. Eggs actually contain basically every single nutrient your body needs in bioavailable forms. Bioavailable means your body can actually absorb and use them, not just that they're technically present in the food because the nutrition label says so. In fact, the only nutrient eggs don't contain is vitamin C. When you eat just two eggs per day, you get approximately 25% of your daily selenium, 20% of your B vitamins, including B12, 15% of your vitamin A, significant amounts of vitamin D, E, and K2, as well as iron, zinc, and folate. But here's what makes eggs truly special. A lot of people in the health space talk about eating nose totail and that it's good to consume the entire animal, including organs, as this allows you to get the full spectrum of nutrients. Now, don't get me wrong, that's a great practice, but here's the thing. Eggs are essentially nature's version of nose totail. Think about it. If that egg was fertilized, it would become a chicken. That means the egg has to contain every nutrient required to build a complete animal from scratch. So, when you eat eggs, you're basically eating nose totail. You're basically eating the entire animal. all packaged into one convenient food that just so happens to taste great. You don't need to source liver, kidneys, and heart all separately. The egg already has it all. This is why many people refer to eggs as nature's multivitamin. These people, they are right. So that's the third reason. Eggs are incredibly nutrient-dense and give you basically every nutrient you need in one single food. But eating eggs doesn't just give you more nutrients. They actually have an anabolic effect on your body, which leads to more muscle growth and less body fat. This fourth reason might sound crazy at first, but once you understand the biology that is behind it, it makes perfect sense. Eggs have an effect on your body that's similar to lowdose steroids. And I'm not the one who realized this. There was a legendary bodybuilder named Vince Geronda and he created what is called the natural steroid diet. His approach eating 36 eggs per day. People thought he was absolutely insane, but it worked. When someone takes anabolic steroids, there are a number of mechanisms that occur, but five of the primary mechanisms are one, an increase in testosterone. This massively amplifies anabolic signaling throughout the body in order to build more muscle tissue. Two, an increase in androgen receptor density. Testosterone is an androgen. For testosterone to work effectively, it must bind to these receptor sites. When you have more of these androgen receptors, you use more testosterone and muscle cells become more sensitive to testosterone, allowing the same hormone signal to produce a much larger growth response. Three, a decrease in muscle protein breakdown, which is the slowing of muscle tissue being broken down for energy or repair. Four, an increase in protein synthesis, which is the process where amino acids, which is what protein is broken down to, are assembled into new tissue at a much faster rate. and five, an increase in nitrogen retention, which is the body holding on to more dietary protein instead of excreting it. This keeps muscle tissue in a net positive growth state. Eggs, at least to some degree, do all of these things. As we discussed earlier, cholesterol is the building block for testosterone, and eggs are very high in cholesterol. Synthetic anabolic steroids are chemically modified versions of testosterone. So, even lab-made steroids are still cholesterol-derived molecules. They're simply just altered to change how they act in the body. So, that's how eggs increase testosterone levels. But what about androgen receptor density? Well, when androgen levels stay high for long periods, muscle cells adapt by upregulating androgen receptor expression. This makes the tissue more sensitive to androgen signaling. So, if you're eating lots of eggs and as a result have high testosterone, at least in theory, your androgen receptor density should increase. Eggs also prevent muscle tissue breakdown because they are high in protein. This provides a steady supply of essential amino acids, reducing the need for the body to break down existing muscle tissue for fuel or repair. Eggs are especially high in an amino acid called leucine. Leucine acts as a direct signal for muscle protein synthesis. It basically says to your body, hey, we have the resources we need to build new muscle tissue. So, let's do it. Eggs are actually one of the best sources of protein you can possibly eat. They score incredibly high on something called the DAS index. D stands for digestible indispensable amino acid score. This measures how well your body can actually use the protein you eat. Then finally, eggs increase nitrogen retention because this complete highly bioavailable protein means more of the nitrogen from dietary protein is retained and is used for tissue building rather than being excreted, keeping the body in a net positive growth state. Now, I'm not saying eggs are as effective as steroids. Obviously, they aren't. I'd be willing to bet that no Mr. Olympia champion ever has put his success down to eating eggs alone. What I am saying is that eggs to a minor degree mimic some of the beneficial muscle growth mechanisms you get from steroids. What makes eggs even more powerful in terms of their anabolicness is that they are also packed with saturated fats. These are essential for hormone production. And the old school bodybuilders, they knew this. This is why so many of them swore by eggs. They weren't crazy. They just understood that eggs provided a natural anabolic effect through real food. So that's the fourth reason. Eggs are to some degree a quote natural steroid as they support muscle growth, fat loss, and hormone production. Now, there's one final reason I eat so many eggs. And honestly, it might be the most important one of all. The final reason, and probably the most scientific reason on this entire list, is because eggs, they taste incredible. And I know that sounds like I'm joking, but hear me out. Because there's actually a biological reason why the fact that something tastes good really matters. Whether you have eggs scrambled, fried, poached, softboiled, or hard-boiled, eggs, they taste incredible. You can eat them plain with just salt and they still taste great. You can cook them in butter and they're even better. They're one of the most versatile, satisfying foods you can possibly eat. But what most people don't think about is why do they taste so good? Well, you see, your body has an incredible biological feedback system that has been shaped by evolutionary pressures. So, when you eat a food in its natural form and it tastes good to you, that's your body's way of telling you, "This is exactly what I need right now." Think about it. You don't crave motor oil. You don't crave cardboard. These things, they have no nutrients. You crave foods that contain certain nutrients your body actually needs. That's not a coincidence. It's years of evolutionary programming that have resulted in your taste buds seeking out the most nutritious foods. And sure, you may crave donuts and other processed foods, but that is only because scientists have combined a bunch of ingredients that do not taste good individually into one super palatable meal. Look at the list of ingredients for donuts. Which of these would you actually eat by themselves? That amazing taste of eggs is your body recognizing that this food is packed with exactly what it needs. This is one of the reasons why highly processed foods can be so problematic. They're engineered to taste good. They trick us by manipulating specific ratios of certain ingredients to make them taste good, but they don't contain the nutrients your body is actually looking for. So, you eat them, they taste good temporarily, but your body never gets satisfied because it's not getting what it needs. And as a result, you stay hungry. When I used to eat lots of processed foods back in the day, no matter how much I ate, I was never satisfied. But when I eat a good serving of eggs, I'm full, I'm satisfied, and I don't think about food for hours. To me, the satiety before bed is huge. It prevents me from wanting late night carbohydrateheavy snacks which absolutely ruin sleep quality. Carbohydrates cause large blood sugar spikes which actually blocks the production of certain hormones like growth hormone which are at their highest levels of production overnight. Since eggs are almost pure protein and fat, they keep me full without blood sugar spikes, allowing my hormones to do what they're supposed to do when I'm sleeping. So that's the fifth and final reason. Eggs taste great, which means I enjoy eating them, and I know my body wants them, as that's the body's way of telling you exactly what you should be eating. As a whole, eggs are an excellent food choice that can exponentially enhance your life. My bad. I eat 10 per day. You definitely don't need to eat that many, but you should definitely eat more eggs. One thing I will say, however, is you do need to be very careful about which brands you buy because there is a lot of dodgy practices going on in the egg industry. In fact, there have been scandals so serious that at some egg companies, executives have been jailed. And that's not another egg joke either. I'm being serious. The executives at some egg companies have actually been jailed because their practices were just so horrific. But in this video right here, I break down which egg brands you need to avoid and which ones are the best. That way, you can become an expert at choosing the right eggs. Yeah, my bad. I'm now starting to see why the percentage of my audience that's female has been gradually declining recently. I think I'll just stick to the educational content.
