Anchoring

Presenting an extreme number or claim first so everything after seems reasonable by comparison. The first piece of information becomes your reference point — even when it's arbitrary or deliberately inflated. Works even when you know the anchor is irrelevant.

American B1B Lancer bombers have arrived at British air bases as they wait to be potentially deployed for large-scale strikes against Iran. It comes as President Trump tells UK Prime Minister Kier Starmer that their aircraft carriers are no longer needed. Brian Yennis is live in London with the very latest. Brian, that was a very spicy tweet by the president. >> A spicy tweet and his special relationship has turned spicy in the last week. Rachel, good morning. A week after UK Prime Minister Kier Starmer changed his mind and allowed US bombers to use UK military bases for Operation Epic Fury, American B1B Lancers finally landed at the Air Force base in uh Fairford, the UK air base on Friday. And this as the HMS Prince of Wales, one of two British aircraft carriers, has reportedly now been placed on advanced readiness to leave port in the next 5 days to head to the Middle East. President Trump, though, who's criticized the UK for being uncooperative and says Starmer is no. Winston Churchill, said these latest moves by the UK are too little, too late. >> Give me the offer to send two aircraft carriers. Maybe, maybe, but they're not sure. I just put out a response to it. I said, "We don't need them. It's not the right time. It would have been nice to have had them two weeks ago." >> President Trump went on to say about the aircraft carriers, quote, "That's okay, Prime Minister Starmer. We don't need them any longer, but we will remember, we don't need people that join wars after we've already won." Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who famously stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the US in the 2003 Iraq war, is also now criticizing Starr for not being there for their biggest ally. The Daily Mail reports at a private event, Blair said, quote, "I think we should have backed America from the very beginning. If they are your ally and they are an indispensable cornerstone for your security, you had better show up." Prime Minister Starmer insists the UK will not join the US in attacking Iran in Operation Epic Fury this morning, writing an op-ed, quote, "My focus throughout has been simple, calm, and level-headed leadership in the national interest. At moments like this, the country needs seriousness, not political games." Rachel, UK political opposition leaders have called Starmer slow and weak when it comes to Iran, particularly when it comes to defending British nationals and UK military bases from Iranian attacks. Rachel, >> very interesting story. Thank you so much, Brian. >> I'm Steve Ducey. I'm Brian Kilme. >> And I'm Anley Airheart.
