I'm chronicling the history of Pokémon cards by collecting them and putting them in a binder. Collecting them all is nearly impossible goal, but the first step is to [music] know what you're looking for. Welcome to Check the Box. Get out your Fire Stones cuz we're evolving Vulpix into [music] Ninetales. Maintaining the elegance while upping the majesty, Ninetailes is definitely a worthy follow-up to the fan favorite Fallick, which is more than we've been able to say for some of the [music] other two-stage evolution lines. A ton of all Pix fans turned up for the last video, so I'm genuinely curious to see how well Ninetailes compares. Let me know who's your favorite in the comments while you're down there liking and subscribing. Oh, and hyping if you're on your phone. I think that's [music] still a thing. We start out with the base set, and I start out with a placeholder card. I don't have the shadowless version either. But I'm finally on the board with Unlimited. Base set wrapped up with the fourth print which now included the year 2000 in the copyright text. Nightales also appeared in all the main reprint sets starting with base set 2, then legendary collection where we see our first reverse holo appearance and finally XY evolutions all the way in 2016. which had a reverse holo and a deck exclusive non hollow. In gym challenge, we got two Ninetails. First up is Brock's Ninetailes. And for now, we still have first edition and unlimited printings. Then there's Blaine's Ninetailes in the same set. In 2002, Light Ninetales appeared in Neo Destiny, where we got the last first edition Ninetailes card. Ninetales was popular in the E-series era, debuting in Expedition with both a hollow and non-holo card with the same artwork. Each received its own reverse holo printing as well, making four cards in total from this set. It's a similar story in Aquapolis where we see some more playful ninetails. This time only the non-holo card received a reverse holo printing. Now, you may have noticed so far that Ninetailes is usually a hollow rare card, making it more difficult for me to collect. This is really pronounced in the last decade. So, let's pivot away from the binder as we cover that. Ninetails kicked off the EX series in Hidden Legends where we also see the debut of Ninetails EX. The next appearance was an EX Emerald. Dragon Frontier switches things up, giving us a psychic type Delta Species [music] Ninetails. In 2007, Ninetales is staring you down in Power Keepers. And later that year, they appear in Mysterious Treasures. The next series was Platinum, where Ninetailes was included in the base set. Next, a Stubby Ninetailes was included in the small Pokemon Rumble set. Then we get another series base [music] set appearance with hard gold soul silver. This card also got a blister exclusive cracked ice hollow. Later that year, Ninetales was unleashed yet again. Ninetailes resumes annual appearances with Call of Legends in 2011, which got a deck exclusive non-hollow. Their 2012 showing came in Dragons Exalted. And 2013 started off with a black and white promo card, followed by the final set in the black and [music] white series, Legendary Treasures. We've crawled out of the Lost Decade now, but let's get the binder cut up. Ninetail's first XY appearance comes in Primal Clash where they're perched on a rooftop. Then Ninetails EX returns in Generations with a 3D rendering that feels a bit uncanny. Pokémon doubled down on the 3D aesthetic with break cards. This one from XY Evolutions. Moving to the Sun and Moon era, we see the introduction of Alolan Ninetailes, which somehow gives Ninetailes even more grace. Guardians Rising started out with a GX card that also got a World Championship deck reprint. Then there's a full art Alola Ninetailes GX, which got a rainbow secret rare printing in the same set. A shiny version was later printed in hidden fates. We keep things going with Alola Ninetailes and Burning Shadows. This card got a deck exclusive cracked ice hollow and a waterweb holo promo. We take another turn in the Sun and Moon trainer kit where Alolan Ninetales is unveiled as a fairy type. This included a hollow and non-holo printing. Lost Thunder is another big set for Alolan Ninetailes. Starting with a GX card, then a full art, which got a rainbow secret rare printing as well. In teamup, we briefly returned a Kanto Ninetails. This card was also included in a world championship deck. Then we're right back to fairy type Alolan Ninetales in the same set. The last set to feature Alolan Ninetailes was Cosmic Eclipse, at least for now. Kanto Ninetales returns in the base set for Sword and [music] Shield. And we get another big set later that year with Rebel Clash. This set debuted Ninetales V, which also got a full art printing. We get two different Ninetailes cards in Fusion Strike. The first was included twice in the 2022 Battle Academy box. The artwork on the second card gives us one of the more regal Ninetailes in the set. Then we're on to Silver Tempest. While this was a big set for Vulpix collectors, we just get one uncommon Ninetailes in this set. [music] In Obsidian Flames, we get a very strong looking Ninetailes and a beautiful illustration rare. Ninetails EX returns yet again in the 151 set, which also got a full art printing. We take a quick detour with the My First Battle Deck, then arrive at Twilight Masquerade. Soon after, Ninetails appeared in Surging Sparks, which was their last Scarlet and Violet era appearance. And we close out with another series base set in Mega Evolution. That's it for the binder. Sadly, there are no cameo cards to cover, but there are a couple of base set misprints I should at least mention. First, there's a fairly infamous error card from Shadowless where the damage is completely missing from the fire blast move. There's also a more common variant of the unlimited card with black flames, but this seems less distinguished to me. Ninetail set size is just behind Vulpix, putting it at fifth place overall in the series. My completion percentage is only 55%, but I'm actually happy with that after such a rough last decade. Luckily, we have some member collections to go through. For the second video in a row, I have three member collections to share. I didn't take the time to run a mock contest like the last video, but trust me, it's worth sticking around to look at these. As per usual, they all have their own unique attributes. First up, we have Russ, whose binder kicks off with various ancillary cards and items. Then we get to a complete English set with a lot of Japanese exclusive artworks and unique printings sprinkled throughout. This is a really impressive binder from a true completionist. Then we have another complete set from Platinum [music] Tac, who also has a complete ballpick set and some other collections that might pop up in future videos. As an appreciator of binder layouts, I also want to note the unique strategy of pairing cards vertically in the top two rows. This seems like a clever way to avoid breaking up pairs. Finally, we have a complete set from helicopter crash scene stunt double. This is super impressive as I believe they have both of the error cards that I mentioned earlier. They stated in their email to me that their original dream was to have nine copies of every card to fill nine slot binder pages. You know, because Ninetails with such a reckless goal befitting a reckless name like helicopter crash scene stunt double. I really hope they return to that dream someday. They have however transitioned to a goal of getting a master set and highly graded cards, so they're still setting their sights high. That's all I have for now, but there's plenty more where that came from in the Ultimate Pokemon Masterless [music] playlist.
