But then at the end of the day, it short changes so many other people who built this business, including this guy who when I met him had absolutely zero. >> People thought the worst part was that Unk wasn't the restaurant owner. It wasn't. The real outrage is that the term tenderness was trademarked by the restaurant owner. What we are witnessing is an old black man being used as a mascot for another man, white man's restaurant. >> Race always has to play a role. And this is why in my opinion, black people can't never have nothing. Now, let me give you a quick history. Bring him on the screen. If you don't know who Mr. Tender Tenderism is, it's the gentleman right here. I literally before all this went out, I literally wanted to go to Destination Barbecue and do a tendonism skit with him. And I'm going to let y'all see who he is just in case you seen his videos and you don't know. I'm going to show you exactly what I'm talking about. Roll the clip. So if if it that boy look here, this is tendonism at its best. I'm trying to tell y'all, you better come to Destination Smokehouse Eyer Southern California City be Marietta. Boy, this is what it it don't get no tender. >> All right, then we got a little highlight tape of Tenderism. Let's get a little highlight. trying to do. >> I just know. >> I just want to see if they tend if they tender. Tender ain't too good. Y'all think we was playing though. See this brisket here. But look here. This a beef bone. I want to make sure y'all see the clarity. Hold on. Look. Huh? I told you. Let's see to see what happened and then, you know, shake it a little bit. >> Now, selfishly of me, I've been waiting for my opportunity to go to tendonism and that bone fall off and I throw my hat down or or or do something because I just it the experience and the marketing was incredible. I had to go and try it. But it's always some drama that has to come up at some point in time. And I tell you what, I think it's drama with people external from the destination smokehouse. I'm telling you, here comes the connoisseur himself that goes around Keith Lee and gives commentary on restaurants food. He goes in, nobody knows that he's there. He secretly order, he have somebody else go pick up the order, he get in the car, he do the review, and it literally make and break restaurants. And I think this was the beginning of a nefarious end to Destination Smokehouse. And I will say this, and I don't think it's Destination Smokehouse's fault. I think it all stem from this Keith Lee's review. Wrote a clip. Me and my family are currently in Marietta, California. And this, in my opinion, is the most anticipated video I've ever done. In my hand is food from Destination Smokehouse. UNC with the tenderism. My whole mission today to see in my opinion is the food actually tenderism. Or do I just love watching? This food was quick. It only took us 10 minutes to get it. And Unk is here. But walk around with four different security guards, which I fully understand cuz people probably bombarding him non-stop. I didn't touch it. I didn't do nothing. This how it came to me. It looked like it sliced. It looked like they slid it straight down the back. So when I pick it up, >> it's already >> That's what happened. I'mma pick it up and see if it fall off the bone. Well, it ain't no bone in here. I'm going to just see if it fall apart. It do not. >> Oh yeah, >> this thing ain't going nowhere. That barbecue sauce is sweet and I think exactly that's what it need. Again, a little more salt would take this a long way, but as is, I'm at a 7.5 out of 10. This might be the tenderisms that we was talking about. This oxtail one. It's tendon now. Now that's tender. Is this the meat? >> That's pier. >> Now if I had glasses, I'm throwing the glasses on the floor. That is delicious. Fantastic. that I had actually tender, juicy, peppery, smoky, salty. That might be the best ox I've ever had. >> Now, seems like a fair review, but let me tell you what, y'all. Race always has to play a role. And this is why, in my opinion, black people can't never have nothing. Hey, I want to give a big promo to the membership program. I told you guys we were going to do it. and we're going to have the best membership program on YouTube. Let's put it on the screen for people who are interested. So, we created a initial rookie phase. We're going to post that for the commanders. And then finally, for the people that are just they just love your boy, we have the deputy chief. You get everything from every other category. Plus, you get first dibs on exclusive uh items and autographs, merchandise, a special Q&A monthly, and early access to events. So, if I'm having an event, you'll know about it first so it doesn't sell out before you have an opportunity. So, take a look at this. Go to the join button, join where you feel is applicable for you, but we expanded it to give uh people a lot more opportunities to get into um becoming a member. All right. In my opinion, black people can't never have nothing. And not against Keith Lee because I think he gave an honest review, but this is where it went south. And he's going to explain a little bit of the scenario that I think caused Destination uh barbecue to be split apart. This is him on I forget whose show this is. >> Uh Big Boy on Big Boy show wrote a clip. one that was most highly requested place that we have had since I feel like since we started. The food in my opinion was good. Was it amazing? I wouldn't say so. >> I think there were certain parts of it that were amazing. Like the oxtails were incredible. Some of the best oxtails I've ever had in my life. Uh but the beef rib that was in infamous for falling off the bone, it was a slice. Allegedly, it was a slice in the back to where if you pick it up, the entire thing falls off instead of it just like >> Yeah, we heard that, too. >> Yeah. Instead of it just coming off. >> You didn't know that? I thought I HEARD THAT FROM YOU. I DIDN'T say it's pre. >> Right after we got done eating, I attempted to go in and have a conversation with U. Again, we don't call beforehand. We don't set up meetings. We don't set up no times because the same experience that everybody else gets, I want the same experience. Uh, so when we went in, I just want to have a conversation with him, which I understand everybody gets busy. Schedules are are different, right? So we went in, his security said he is in the podcast and he is not available. So I said, "Okay, is there a way that we could just leave him a tip?" The plan was to leave him $4,000 >> um, and leave a thou >> here's where here's where I think it begins to be interesting. He did the review, everything. Unk is a part of Destination Smokehouse, right? He's not Destination Smokehouse. Somebody else is cooking. I doubt he on the pit cooking all day. I I bet there's other people that are cooking there. There's other people that are serving. It is a restaurant. Somebody founded the restaurant. Either he founded it with the other guy or whatever the case may be. I It's more to it than just. So when he wanted to give the donation, which I'm totally fine with, I I just want people to understand that one of the reasons he was doing it because Ank is black. And so you got a black man that want to do that for a black man only. Because in my opinion, destination as a whole is the production of the barbecue and the oxtails. Unless cooked the oxtails, which I doubt it. He's the celebrity face of it, but unless he cooked the oxtails, then I think the donation should go towards the restaurant. But because he's black and black people like to do this and and I'm not totally against it, but it causes a riff that don't need to be had in my opinion. Uh, let him finish. >> I initially had $5,000 cash. I went to leave $1,000 to pay for anybody to come in line after us and then $4,000 directly to UNC. Um, and it wasn't from a place of I felt like aunt was struggling or aunt needed it. Uh, it was a way to say thank you for what you do for our community. >> Security pretty much told us it was over with. It was done for the day. There was no way that we was going to be able to have a conversation with him. Uh, so we end up leaving. We end up passing that entire $4,000 out to the community. a video comes out maybe a week later or two weeks later and it's the owner of Destination Smokehouse saying that I was basically I I'm paraphrasing but I was trying to do charity tok and I was singling him out and I shouldn't have singled out a business owner. I should have given given the money to every person around that was inside the business. Um >> bunch of nonsense in my opinion. Um, and that it was something that I did on my end that was negatively affecting things even though I just honestly gave my opinion and it had nothing to do with the food. They were saying that because I didn't give Nick, who was the owner, the $4,000 that that was part of the issue. >> Yeah. >> And I didn't I didn't see it that way. I still don't to this day don't see it that way. >> Neither do I, bro. I think Unk moved on >> and I think they trying to lock up on Tinder's name. >> And Unk is exactly who you think he is. I got on the phone with him and the first thing he said was tenderism. >> Yeah. >> Literally that first thing. He didn't say hello. He didn't say hey. He said tenderism. Uh so we had a conversation about doing something in the future. Uh we haven't fully locked that down what that is. But um just know that if I was to ever do something is from my heart and I genuinely enjoy what he what he brings to the table. Um just from a personality standpoint. And I stand for the underdog. I stand for the people who aren't blessed enough to have a visibility spot. And if I'm blessed enough to have that spot in visibility, I would not go to sleep knowing that there's people around me that don't have it that can have it. I'm going to pass it around. >> Now, I think that Keith Lee guy is a genuine guy. I I don't want nothing I don't want people to think that I'm I'm really out to get him. I just think that unintentionally they create issues like this because he did single out aunt cuz he black. Now, if you just reverse it and then you can see what I'm talking about. If you if a white person who did food reviews, went to a all black restaurant, just hypothetically it's all black and there's a white guy that's kind of the marketing arm and you go in the restaurant and you just want to give money to the white guy. You being white giving it to the white guy saying you like what he do for the white community. that to to me you creating a situation that don't need to be had because these two men are business partners. It's not about black or white. So this is the clip that Keith Lee had a problem with and I do agree that Ank looks kind of depressed on this clip but roll it. he's added to the business has been huge and is very visible to a lot of people. But then at the end of the day, it short changes so many other people who built this business, including this guy who when I met him had absolutely zero. People thought the worst part was that Unk wasn't the restaurant owner. It wasn't. The real outrage is that the term tenderism was trademarked by the restaurant owner. What we are witnessing is an old black man being used as a mascot for another man, white man's restaurant. And let's be honest, after seeing all those viral videos of the meat falling off the bone, anybody would want to try it. It was tenderism that made this restaurant explode online. People come to see him. Keith Lee came to see him. The viral fame, the business, the buzz that came from Ank, not the owner. But when Keith tried to leave a $4,000 tip, security stopped him, saying Unk was too busy. What made people even angrier was the owner's response afterward. >> If I would have known he was here, I would have probably asked Ed to stop for a few seconds so we could go over there. That's what I would have done. The way the owner speaks and Unk's energy just makes the whole thing feel uncomfortable. And ever since then, the owner has been showing up in every tenderness video. Now, the restaurant is getting cancelled with people saying the owner mistreated Unk and he doesn't get paid for all the popularity he's brought to the place. >> Now, I'm not there. I don't know the truth. I don't know what happened. But in my speculation, I see this being very well the case. the the white guy started this restaurant. The food, taste, the platform, everything was what it was and what it is today. He partnered with Ankh. Ank is a very charismatic guy. Ank is the reason I wanted to go to Destination, but at the same time, it's a part of the functional business operation. It's not all of it. And if I were to go to Destination, I would shout out Aunt cuz I like his little stuff. And then I want to meet the owner because I know that these two people are working together. One is the marketing arm and one is the business side. And as you could tell, I believe that the other guy had the business going and then him and Unk partnered and then it became viral because Uncle would do the little tenderism thing. And and and what happens is I think that people drew a wedge. They begin to tell Unk, "Oh, he treating you wrong." Black I saw it all over the black internet. That's all they were saying with this. No evidence, no nothing. They just saying they treating the man wrong. They don't know how much he getting paid, if he getting paid or not. And what happens? All uncle, you should go out on your own. All he doing you wrong. All uncle, you deserve this. You deserve that. Not realizing that he the one put you on. Not saying you got to stick around forever, but don't forget he the one put you on. You wouldn't there would be no tenderism if he didn't have a barbecue or he didn't have the infrastructure. then you wouldn't be making videos at a building that the other guy started potentially. So, here's a little bit from Ank because they did apparently split and I think we got maybe the the original owner first. He he gave a statement and then we'll give ank statement wrote a clip. >> Good morning. My name is Nick and recently there's been a lot of conversations about Destination Smokehouse that don't fully represent our history or what we stand for. Today I want to speak directly to our supporters about Walter Johnson and his involvement with Destination Smokehouse. Walter was never asked to leave. The application to register the trademark for tenonism was not filed without his knowledge. Walter was an early source of inspiration for me and I've always been grateful for that. We've shared so many genuine moments together talking about barbecue and bonding over the craft that we both love. These moments were filled with camaraderie and mutual respect. Today, I'm proud of Walter for having the courage to go after his own dreams. It takes heart. I respect anyone who chooses to build something of their own. And I wish him nothing but the best. The barbecue community is really small, guys. We all know each other, and as small business owners, I feel it's our responsibility to support one another and celebrate the craft that brings people together through our food. It's always been about great food and the spirit of the community with barbecue and that's what Destination Smokehouse will always stand for. We're grateful for the support of our guests and our team and the barbecue community. We will remain focused on moving forward with respect, positivity, and a shared purpose. Thank you guys. Now, I don't know this guy who could be lying through his teeth and writing a script, but I know business and I have had this happen to me. I have seen this in business all the time. Somebody get in your ear and they start fluffing you up. And people that are looking to get rich quick or do something else, they go and leave a good opportunity not understanding that the person that they came to the first time was the real opportunity and stability. And I I I'm very sad because I like Unk. I follow him now. If he if he started a barbecue joint and he was actually cooking the barbecue and stuff, I'd love to go try his barbecue. I like his swag. But unfortunately, I think what happened was they forced that man to to draw a wedge between the other guy who was his friend because everybody tell him, "You should be rich. You should be doing this, you should be doing that." and not understanding there's a business platform to this and he going to go out on his own and people going to be all on him for 30 minutes. Unk, I'm going to give you money. UNC, I'mma do this. Unk going to start his own barbecue spot, but people ain't going to be there to hire. They're not going to be there to fire people. They're not going to be there to make sure everything is legally compliant. That's that's the fear that I have in this. Now, here's Ank saying that he no longer work for Destination uh Smokehouse. Roll it. While we talking, >> Uhhuh. >> a question I think everybody been wanting to know is, are you still at Destination Smokehouse? >> No, I'm not. I'm not at Destination Smokehouse. Uh, I'm with Tender Nism now, you know. I had to go on my own, you know, so that way I can do what I have to do. So, I don't want nobody to be It is what it is. You got to move on. When things happen, you don't get mad. Hey, you just take another step. Get glad. Praise the Lord. You still living. But this Hey, I'm going to tend the ride the world now. Hey, they should have never. But it is what it is, y'all. And keep Hey, family out there. Y'all keep supporting me and I guarantee you I ain't going to do you wrong. Booyah. Now, here's Mr. Tendonism with the trademark scenario. So, go back to the trademark clip. I just want people to understand how trademarks work because I've trademarked a few things. I own probably six companies, seven companies now. What happens is you go through and you trademark and people have tried to take my trademark. So you go through, you trademark, right? You make a request. The person who originally owned the trademark, if there's a trademark conflict, a domain or anything, they'll go to the person that has the domain and ask you. They've asked me about certain companies and I say, "No, I don't want to give up the trademark." Then they got to go back to the person say the trademark is not available. So, I believe what may have happened here is that the restaurant owner tried to get the Tenderism trademark. It was pending and then I think through social media and everything, Mr. Tenderism himself went to the person who originally owned it and they rejected this trademark and they gave it to Mr. Tenderism. Uh, wrote that clip. >> Here I am today. Uh, Attorney Harris reached out, talked to me. We have a meeting. He's the original owner of Tender Nails. I'm under the trademark. And today he said, "Well, I'mma get the trademark to you." And here he is. Boy, look, Attorney Har. >> Yes, sir. >> Man, you all know the appreciation things that's been happening. God is good. >> God is good. God is good. >> It wouldn't have happened. >> Yes, sir. >> If it weren't for him. That's right. >> And now look at it. Hey, family. see how we reach out and touch. Long time coming, but the time is here. >> Well, I just want to thank you all for all that you've done for the community. You're a magnificent inspiration to us. And it is time for our community to work together to do big things economically. And it is an absolute honor to uh begin the process of transferring those trademarks over to you because you deserve it. You created it. and you've created something very very special for our community. So hey look, we ready to roll. Let's go man. >> Hey man, look at here. This tendon is a boy. I'm gonna really y'all we gonna have some fun. I'm going to tender ride United States. And I'll say one thing to that. Booya. My man. >> Let me let me let me add this. I hate I hate that this is happening. I'm all for tenism going out on his own. I support him. I I I' I'd donate money to him. I I want to see him grow. The problem that I find here is that are people gonna really support Mr. Tendonism like they should or is it a fly by night? And let me add this, we need to stop doing the my community stuff. If you want a big conglomerate company, you need to be open to do business with the world. It can't just be a black black thing. You can't do that. It don't work. There is no real significant blackowned businesses that are bigger than some of these these conglomerates. I mean, tenderism wasn't about being black. We like, but it wasn't about being black. And now they want to pigeon hole ank. And I think some people probably want to take advantage of him cuz they see money to be made and they going to try to make an into a spectacle that they claimed that the other guy was doing and they gonna make money off of him and do all this and then they going to leave him out to dry. I I just hate that I think that that may happen. I almost wish I could talk to and be like, "Forget all that. My community. Everybody that eat barbecue is your community. Everybody. I'm your community. White people, black people, Asian people, your community is America. It's not black folk." Cuz black folks going to let you down. I'm telling you. Anyway, before you know it, they're going to be saying you a fraud in a minute if you don't do something they want you to do. But I hope the best for Mr. Tenderism. I hope that I hope that nothing that I say actually comes comes to pass. And he has the biggest barbecue franchise uh uh ever in the in world history. And I love to go and let that bone drop off the plate.
