Analysis Summary
Ask yourself: “What would I have to already believe for this argument to make sense?”
Performed authenticity
The deliberate construction of "realness" — confessional tone, casual filming, strategic vulnerability — designed to lower your guard. When someone appears unpolished and honest, you evaluate their claims less critically. The spontaneity is rehearsed.
Goffman's dramaturgy (1959); Audrezet et al. (2020) on performed authenticity

Okay, we're here at Cards HQ. They got a sign out front. It looks like they said that they accept PSA commiss submissions. >> Don, you got our box? >> Yep. >> How many cards? >> 38. >> 38. So, we're going to get in here and get out as quick as we can so we can get home for the Reds victory. Okay. Is uh the PO box 801545. That's a good address to ship back to. This place is crazy today. You can see we got everything submitted lickety split. You can see cards HQ is absolutely booming today. Ready. Okay guys, we're final game of the year for the Braves. That's where you go in the stadium there. It's like like I said, it's just about not even a mile from Cards HQ. Uh it's right now 125. First pitch 240. We'll be home in time for the see the Red's first pitch. Just to kind of recap our experience real quick. I'll let Don do it. >> Hey guys. So, we just left Cards HQ like Dell said and the process was super easy. Um, really as far as the submission goes, it wasn't a lot different. Um, if you've ever submitted one online, it wasn't a lot different. Um, everything's the same. Print out your order. Um, the only thing that you don't do is you don't box it up. So, the guy was really nice. No line. And um the reason we wanted to try this is because um the Burbank, California location, there's a card shop out there, a huge card shop that >> Burbanks >> Burbanks that um has a satellite PSA drop off point all the time so that you can come in there and drop off your cards. Um and the guy the PSA guy today he did confirm that they are considering that which is what we were hoping when we dropped off here. So apparently um you know he did confirm that Cards HQ and PSA I guess they are considering being a permanent uh drop offs drop off point but he said that they would be here right now the plan is at least four times a year. So it was super easy. Um, you know, we just we went through all the paperwork when we got there. He counted the cards, made sure they were all there, um, signed our paperwork so that there's accountability. So, no issues if you um, have any, um, opportunity. And you can actually find out where the PSA PSA events are on their website. And I learned this today when I was submitting this order. Um, they will tell you like where they're going to be in October where you can drop off. Um, so you know, check and see if they're going to be in your area. And if they are, I highly recommend it. Talk to you guys soon. >> But stop. So, we're going to head to Dickies and eat lunch. I realized the games the pregame starts at 2:40, but the game doesn't start till 3:10. So, we got 30 minutes extra than I thought we did. So, we're going to go in here and grab some lunch. You know, if the Reds win, I'm going to have to come back here every day and eat lunch until they lose. >> Dickies, we highly recommend Dickies Barbecue. It's excellent. I have never done a PSA grade review on this channel. I am doing one today. Really, this is a brain dump for me, honestly. Hopefully, if if you're a dealer, you're someone that is funding the hobby, funding the growth of your personal collection by flipping cards and selling cards maybe on eBay or other platforms are setting up shows like Don and I do. We do shows and we have four or five online platforms we sell. We've just started our whatnot channel. If if that's you, then hopefully something that I say during this brain dump session will be of value to you. I'm really doing this to put myself on the on the spot to make myself accountable. This may become part of a series because what I'm planning on doing this year, every month, is taking 20 to 30 cards to Cards HQ, dropping them off at PSA. And my thought is if I can do 20 or 30 cards in January, February, March, then hopefully by April or May, I'll start getting 20 to 30 cards back. And I want to be able to rely on 20 to 30 fresh cards primarily for our show showcases to be coming in on a on a regular consistent basis. That's my goal. I I am very thankful that Cards HQ has opened up a PSA division or PSA opened up a division in Cards HQ not too far from us here in in Georgia. And that's my plan. But if I'm going to do that, then I've got to make myself much more accountable. I've got to think differently than I have in the past because PSA is just a goat rodeo right now. There's so much frustration in the market with PSA, a lot of conspiracy theories and so on and so forth. And in in my opinion, the last four, five, six months, it's unless it's an ultra modern fresh pool, the odds of you getting a 10 has reduced drastically. I was flabbergasted by what this return was. The number of nines that I fully expected to be tens and in the past were tens in my opinion. It seems like all what used to be tens are now nines. I don't know. Maybe I'm just losing it. But I'm going to go through this just for myself and hopefully you'll get value from this. I'm going to show you what my thought process was at the time that we submitted these to PSA. And I've got to change a lot of the way I look at this as we move forward this year. And if we're going to be dropping off 20 to 30 cards at Cards HQ, which is our goal, and I want to meet that goal, then I've got to look at things a little bit differently than I have in the past. For me, if I if I sell a card for $30, $35 and I have a dollar in the card and it cost me $20 to grade it or less. Now it's more obviously, but in the past it wasn't. And I can make a 50% return on that money or more. If I invest a dollar and I and I make back, you know, $10 profit, that's a that's a that's 10 times your money. And it and again, for me, it all comes down to the numbers. It's like, "Yeah, Dale, but it's a $30 card." Well, in my mind, 10 times 10xing your money is 10xing your money. That's the bottom line. It doesn't matter if it's a $30 card, a $300 card, a third $3,000 card, or a $30,000 card. Obviously, I'd rather be able to do that with a $30,000 card. But when you're just getting going and just getting started, it's just being able to compound and compound compound compound has been our approach. And if you've a regular visitor of this channel, you know that. So, let's look at these this review we've got. And I'm I'm going to do this as quickly as as possible. And again, this is going to be unlike any reviews you've probably ever seen. I've got And look at the nines. I've got one, two, three, four. All Patrick Mahomes. Okay. We pick up Patrick Mahomes cards. And I know from experience, I can put any Patrick Mahomes 10 on eBay. It doesn't matter what the card is and it will sell over time. Maybe not next week, not next month, but Patrick Mahomes absolutely sells all tins. It doesn't matter what the card is, I can get $30 to $35. That was my expectation here. You got to realize we we took these into Cards HQ September the 28th. September the 28th. We got them back January the 8th. So, a little over three months, which I was pleasantly surprised. Honestly, I thought it would be longer than that because currently right now we have an order at PSA that we that we sent in previously on August the 28th on August the 28th. Today is January the 15th and we still don't have it. It's in assembly. It's been in assembly for weeks it seems like. But so, you know, that was in August. We we we go to to Cards HQ a month later, submit the the what we're going to go through with you here, and they're they got back January 8th. So, today is the 15th of January. Who knows how how do you make sense of that? One order went in on the 28th and it's still in assembly. The other one went in on se a month later and we've gotten it back. So the the the lag times and the processing times with PSA the the order before that we were it was there for 5 months and it's kind of it's kind of messed up our rhythm of having fresh graded cards in our showcase at shows. So again our approach is going to be 20 to 30 cards every single month and then after four or five months we should have 20 to 30 new cards coming in every month. But anyway, with the Patrick Mahomes, they all got nines. Every all all these, you know, this is 2024 Zena, 2021 Prism, 2021 Mosaic. It really doesn't matter. 2024 Mosaic green. They all got nines. Normally, these were these are going to gem. They have for us in the past. We got one 2024 Phoenix that did gym and it's probably the least least valuable of the bunch. But regardless, that's what we ended up with our Patrick Mahomes. Okay, what am I going to do with these? I'll stick them on eBay for $30 and wait till they sell. It just doesn't matter. I know over time that they will even at nines. Next up, I'll show you a couple of other football cards. This was a JJ McCarthy. JJ McCarthy. And we actually we actually pulled this. Some of you may have seen the video when we were in I think Nashville at the show in Nashville. We ate at a Cracker Barrel and we walked out and a lot of you know if you eat a Cracker Barrel they have a lot of times there's cards hanging hanging in Cracker Barrel. There'll be a few packs. We bought a pack and we pulled this JJ McCarth the press proof blue from Cracker Barrel when we were leaving and at the time that was this summer it was selling for $100. That's what this card was going for. You know the blue press proof. You can go back and look at the documentation on it. It was a $100 card. Now it's about it's a lot less. So, this PSA 8 that we pulled fresh pack fresh. And again, guys, I mean, to me, the centering looks good. It's just a good looking card. I could not believe it got an eight. Another theory that I have is the more times a card has been graded, the harder it is to get a 10. And this card has been graded a lot. But regardless, it's now an eight. So, that's going to end up in our $15 slab box at shows. and somebody's going to be real happy to be able to pick that up. And who knows what the future is for JJ McCarthy. Well, time will tell. Another, and again, I'm just going to go through these football cards. Very popular player here. Played for the University of Georgia, Lad McConi, rated rookie retro. Knew it was going to be a 10. Knew it would be a 10. Comes back a nine. Comes back a nine. A PSA 10 on this goes for 40. So, I'm happy with that. You know, I pulled this from a dollar box, send it in, comes back, we sell it for 40, we got 21 in it. That's doubling our money. I do that all day long. Very happy with it. It comes back a nine. It comes back a nine, which, you know, it's going to end up probably $25 in our showcase. And see the thing about this, I could have sent this card to an alternative grader. And I feel certain, even though alternative graders are tough on cards, very tough on cards, but when you see cards and there is no rhyme or reason that it came back a nine instead of a 10, it's just it's it's getting more and more frustrating. And we've been talking about alternative graders on this channel for a since we started the channel. And some of you know that we use alternative graders. Let me just give you some numbers because this is something to really think about and it's something I have to start thinking about. Again, these cards were at PSA for about 90 days. 90 days. During that 90-day period, we sent two orders to alternative graders. We sent one alternative grader 536 cards that we got them all back. We sent them another hundred. They have 30-day turnarounds. 30-day turnarounds. We sent them 536. We got them back. We sent them another 100. We got those back. Another alternative grader. We sent 200 cards. Got them back within 30 days. Turned around, sent them another 200 cards. got them back. Guys, that's 1,036 cards. 1,036 cards that have been graded and 447 of those cards have sold since this order went in to PSA. the churn to be able to to keep your money moving if you're in business, if you're in a sports card business, even if it's a side gig, the ability to be able to keep your money churning is critical. I'm we're waiting 90 days on PSA and in the process I've had a,36 cards graded by our other graders, alternative graders, churning them. And again, 1,036 and 417 have already sold. I need to I need to share a couple more things cuz something happened this morning. The last couple cards we've showed. I'm going to take a quick break here. I want to interrupt and I want you to see something real quick and then I'll be right back with you. I just wanted to cut in here real quick and give you a quick example. These are the last two slabs that we've sold on eBay. You can see this is a alternative grater. It's not PSA Bowman's Best. This is the Otani from 2020. We sold it for $50. It goes the same card in a 10 with PSA will go from $75 to $80 if you look at the comps. The challenge is what does a 9 go for. A nine you're probably not going to even pay for grading. So that's and and again PSA is going to sell higher. But here's another example. This again, we just sold this this morning. Tom Brady, Jim Mint 10, Prism Brilliance Green. We sold it for $36. If we go to Market Movers, which I pulled up here, and we look in Market Movers, this we sold it for 36. Here's the actual card, the Brilliance Green. It's the It last sold on Market Movers in a PSA 10 for $9.82. That was on 42024. You can look through here. There's not any more that I've seen in PSA 10, but it last sold in a PSA for $9.82. And again, we just sold it for $36. So, in my mind, a 10 is a 10 is a 10. And and I don't care if it's PSA or name the grading company. And again, I don't want to get in too much detail here because I'm probably going to do a video soon called self-imposed PSA monopoly. The PSA monopoly is self-imposed. collectors. We have put that on ourselves because if I'm if I'm running a grading company and you name it, the most obscure grading company out there, if a card's going in my slab and it says 10, then I want to make darn sure it's a 10. And those of us that use alternative grading companies know that they're they're they're tough on cards, as tough as PSA in many cases. However, PSA, it seems like the last four, five, 6 months, they aren't giving out tens. It's like the nines that we get now used to be the tens in my mind. And and I don't, you know, I may be wrong here. I'd appreciate your comments, but anyway, I just wanted to cut in real quick and let you guys see, look, we're selling these cards every single day with alternative graders on eBay. And if you look on eBay, the number of people that are not using PSA and are using other grading companies is growing rapidly. I mean, real quick, just go check out and notice for yourself on eBay. It It's amazing in the last few months how many alternative graders are now being used for multiple reasons. Let's get back to the reveal. Okay, guys. I'm back. I'm going to run through the rest of this. I'm going to try not to take a whole lot of time, but alternative grading to me, it's always made sense. Again, there's a couple videos on this channel about it. We sell cards like crazy. You know, we sell cards at shows. We sell cards on eBay. We just got back from a show, the Commerce Show in Georgia this past weekend. We had three Romanies. All of them were al graded by alternative graders. We sold all three. We sold all three graded Roman anony's we had at near PSA prices. And and again, if I had sent them to PSA, I have, you know, that if it should be a 10, it probably came back a nine. One of those that we sold was actually a nine. But we still we sold them and we're keeping things moving forward quickly. Anyway, this JJ McCarthy, if it had come back at 10, it's a $40 card, which is what I expected. You know, I'm going to double my money. It didn't. It came back at nine. So, it'll end up probably It's a probably a 20 $25 card. We'll put it in our 50 $15 slab box for shows probably is what's going to happen with that one. Again, we'll just kind of go through these as quick as possible. This is JJ McCarthy. Excuse me. Jaden Daniels 2024 score orange in a 10. In a 10. This is a $104 card. It comes back a nine. Nine. It's about 29 $30. So, I'm probably going to hold on to that for a while. Don't know what I'm going to do with it. I fully expect that this is a beautiful card. His rookie. I fully expected this to come back, you know, where we would turn around and sell it real quickly for $905. Obviously, that's not going to happen. That's JJ McCarthy. This card right here, nobody really knows about this guy. He's one of my PCs. I like him a lot. I like him a lot. I think he has what I call the sixth tool. You talk about a five tool player, but there's a sixth tool. It's called X Factor is what I call it. Just grit, determination, plays the game right. There's not any higher. This came back a nine. There's none higher. This is a pop one. I think he's again, I'm speculating on him, but this is going to go in my PC. This guy blue, it is numbered. I can't remember what it was numbered to. I think my my old eyes can't see, but it's numbered. Regardless, $50. I I'll put it on eBay. $50 or best offer. I think it's numbered to $4.99. Yeah, $4.99. Or I'll just hang on to it cuz I really really like this guy. Another player that I like a whole lot, Jackson Holiday. I fully expected this card to come back a 10. In a 10, it's about $50, which I would be fine with flipping this card for 50. It comes back a nine, so it's probably going to end up in our $15 slab box. I'm expecting great things from the Orioles this year. They got a very talented young team and Alonzo, which I don't care a whole lot about, but he can hit the ball and I think he's going to be an important part of that lineup. So, there we go. A nine. Another one of my favorite players on the Braves as far as their pitching staff. Swelling. gutsy player. Played shortstop in college. Just a I like him a lot. Knew this was a this was going to jim. Of course, it comes back a nine. Very frustrating. Comes back a nine. He'll probably I'll probably hang on to this or maybe put him in our $15 box. That'll be a good pickup for somebody at one of our shows. But, you know, just very disappointed that it didn't, you know, it didn't jam. Again, it it seems impossible for me, honestly, to have this many nines. It just seems impossible. Here's Christian Yelick. I call him the Red's killer. I like these sparkle cards. They're very popular. You know, it was at a on a 10 is probably a$30 $35 card, which I'm fine with that. You make five, make 10, seven, $15 profit. Brewers fan will pick that up quickly on eBay. It's probably going to end up being a whatnot giveaway [snorts] probably is what we're going to do with this card. I haven't totally decided yet, but there it is. Another nine. Then we gem something finally. And this came from a factory set break. This is a cool card. Nolan Ryan is 300th win. You see the 300th win. We sell these every time we break sets. If we can if these we feel like well Jim this is one of the cards we always send in for grading. It always sells on eBay. You know comps are all over the place every year with this. The last couple years anywhere from $30 to $110. We usually price it at $80 our best offer. I think the last one we sold was $75 on eBay. So we're okay with that. Another card that we love and we've sold many of this one as well is the 3D Ricky Henderson. We felt like it was a 10. We sell tens for $65 to $75 normally on eBay. It comes back an eight. An eight. [clears throat] An eight. An eight. I just it it just blows my mind cuz we put these, you know, through a grading tool, through a centering tool. I mean, we spend time with these cards. We don't we don't send them to PSA unless we're pretty sure they're going to jam cards like this. And it came back in eight, which was totally disappointing. Again, it's probably going to end up as a giveaway in our whatnot show or it might go in our $15 slab box for card shows. We don't know yet, but was very disappointed. Very disappointed with that Ricky Henderson. Ricky Henderson. There's a lot of Ricky Henderson collectors out there. I got this card because I wanted to add a 10 to my PC. I don't have this card in a 10. And you know, this card in a 10 has reached as high as 350 $375. One of the best players to ever play the game. But, you know, I felt like this, if you look at the centering and everything, I said this is a 10. Uh, you know, we ran it through the centering tool. It met all the criteria for for U PSA. It comes back in eight and eight. So again, there's been a lot of these cards graded over the years. A ton of them. This is probably the most overproduced set ever in the history of sports cards. The 90 score. I just wanted this card in a in a 10 for my personal collection. It's probably going to go in our $15 slab box or probably what we'll end up doing with that. And then we did one more Ricky Henderson. And I'm not sure why I did this other than the fact that I'm noticing that the number of Ricky Henderson collectors out there is is a lot bigger than I thought. When we go to shows, there's just a lot of people that are asking for Ricky Henderson cards. We felt like this could jam. It didn't. It ended up being a nine. Um, you know, it's it's a nine is about $16. A 10 is about $50 $55. If I had it to over to do over again, I probably wouldn't have submitted this for grading with PSA. I probably would have submitted it to an alternative grading company. But, you know, it'll end up in our $15 slab box and somebody will get a get a a Ricky Henderson collector will get a great card to add to their collection. All right, let's keep moving. I guess we'll do some more baseball. This is Otani. I knew it was going to be a 10. Beautiful card. Absolutely gorgeous. It's 60 bucks. We pulled it from a dollar box and it's like this is $60. You know, it's going to 10. It'll it'll jam. Of course, it comes back a nine. You know, they offered us. I don't know. It was unbelievably low. We took no PSA offers on this on this this particular order. Usually, we'll take a few PSA offers, but we didn't because all we got was nines. Now, the conspiracy theory person in me says, "Yeah, they're going to they're going to take these nines, buy them from us, change them out to tens, and sell them." I don't believe that's happening in any way, shape, or form. I don't believe it. But the num you guys are see the number of nines is blown my mind with this. It's just blown my mind. This is a gorgeous card. Gorgeous card. high gym rate. It's a 10. It's absolutely a 10. But not in the eyes of PSA and whoever my grader was, he just must really got stuck on nines. But anyway, I don't know what I'm going to do with this. I may sell it on whatnot. May offer it as a buyer giveaway or something. But it's a gorgeous, gorgeous card. Gorgeous card. This is my favorite probably. We sell these like crazy. this Ronald Aunia in the Georgia market here. It's just a great looking card. We sell it raw in a 10. We will sell it for about $70. I knew this was going to be a 10, of course. What does that mean? It's a nine. Another nine. So, I'm probably just going to put it in the showcase for $30 or put it out at a show for $30 because it's a very, very popular. The color match. It just looks beautiful. Very popular card for us. We sell these every time we get our hands on it. I was hoping to get one that, you know, get attends to give somebody at a show, you know, a great card for their PC, but just didn't work out. Next up, the probably the most popular player to ever play in Atlanta. Uh, we pulled this out of a dollar box and guess what? Finally a 10. Finally a 10. This is his USA baseball card from 2015 Panini Prism. This is the Prism that will sell. We'll sell that at the next show. It's in the $55 range. So, you know, pull a card out of a dollar box, make sure it will gym, send it to PSA, comes back at 10, and sell it and make, you know, 20, 30, $40 pretty quickly at a show, you know, with the right cards. you can flip quick, especially when they're 10. So, this is a beautiful card that we'll have probably at our next show that we do here in Georgia. Then, we also have the the same card. It's not the Prism or it is the Prism as well. This is in a nine. The Prism sells for about $75 even a PSA 9. The other one was not the Prism. This is actually the base. The base is about 55. This is about 75. They'll both sell quickly. It shows here. Next card up, we've got another very, very popular player. We've already talked about Akuna here in Atlanta. This is numbered to 699. [snorts] Comes back a nine. This will probably go in our showcase or we'll set out at a show or we might sell and whatnot. Haven't decided yet, you know. just disappointed it didn't come back at 10. Next up is my PC. My PC LA de la Cruz. My my favorite player to watch. Just so much upside potential in my opinion. We sell these in gym mint 10 quite often on eBay and it and it shows $55 is what we will get on this. It's This was actually from a pack poolool, but I love that Lai. I just think that's a awesome card in that black uniform. A very popular card. So, thankfully we got a 10 on that. This card is real easy to to look at the centering on and it's either on or it's off. So, we have a lot we've sold a lot of tens in this particular card. Got some Kobes coming up in a minute, guys. I'll give you my Kobe dissertation. But this is Cal Riley. If he's This is a pop one. It's also numbered. It's numbered to I think 99 maybe. I can't number to 75. Yeah, number to 75. I believe there's only four total pop on on this is four cards at PSA. A 10 sold for $117. This is a nine, of course. A nine. Again, the pop on this is only four. If he starts off the season anywhere close to what he did last year when he ended the season, I'm going to hang on to this until, you know, baseball starts and see how Cal does this year. Who knows? This card may end up in our $15 slab box. I wish it was a 10. I really don't like holding on to nines. I may decide to go ahead and sell it. I'm not sure. But that's Cal Raleigh. Cal Raleigh. And again, when we bought that card in the summer, you know, when we submitted this, we were way ahead on Cal Raleigh. We were we were ahead of the curve on him. But hopefully hopefully he'll start off the season great next year. Next, I knew this was a 10. He's This card's also numbered to 250. Hunter Green. I think Hunter Green has a Sai Young award in his future. He's just dominant. If he's healthy for a whole year, it'll be crazy the numbers he puts up. He's not have not had one year in his career where he's been healthy. And again, this is a Homer talking because I'm a huge Reds fan, but I'm going to hang on to this. It came back an eight, which was disgusting and frustrating and aggravating. And eight, I just couldn't believe it. But it is what it is. And he's a phenomenal player that I don't mind if I hang on to this and just add it to my personal collection, which I may do. Let's look at some Kobes next. These are I'm I'm okay with. I'm not okay with the grades, but I'm okay because, you know, it really you make money when you buy, not when you sell. So, here's a Kobe 9. And I ended up these I I was really thinking this is going to be a $200 PSA 10. PSA 10s go for about $200. I bought like this ended up a nine. So it right now PSA has it at $35. I might hold on to it for a while. I might put it out on eBay at $40 or best offer because Kobe cards over the last couple of months have really started to increase in value. All Kobes. So I I don't mind having this and hanging on to it. We'll just see. But I bought 10 of these on eBay for $48. 10. And they look beautiful. I bought 10. This is the first one we sent in. It came back a nine. So, I'm okay with that. I, you know, I got $4.80 is my cost of the card. Spent $20 to get it graded. So, I got $24 into it. Right now, it's worth 35. Could it go to 5565 this year? Possibly. So, I'm probably going to put it on eBay for $40 or best offer. And if the these cards continue to go up again, I've got nine more or actually got eight. I've got so two raw for $10 each. So, I paid 480. I sold two of them for $10 each, which I didn't think would jim. So, I have several left. We'll send in, you know, one a month over the next few months. See how they come back. I just like this card. I just think it's a cool card. Cool looking card like this. Next up, I have no idea why he even sent this in, honestly. Patrick Euan, a PSA 10 is only $35, but I just knew it was going to jam. Felt like it would. Didn't. came back in nine. It's probably gonna go in our $15. Probably go in our $15 our $15 box. Next, another Kobe. Beautiful card. This card in a PSA 10 goes for $150. $1 150. We looked at it. We knew it was going to jam. You know, this 2000 upper deck Kobe, we knew it was going to jim. This is This is This is $150. Comes back a nine. It'll We'll sell this at a show. We'll probably put 30 $35 on it. Just disappointing, guys. That's a $150 card. $150 card. Beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous card. Now, the good thing about all these Kobes, my cost on the every one that you're going to see, we have a couple more, is less than a penny because I bought out I bought a huge $10,000 $10,000 plus basketball card collection. So, I knew that the Kobes would pay for all the rest of the cards. At least I thought they would. Again, it's big difference between a $150 card and a $30 card. The difference between nines and tens may I wish I'd sent it to an alternative grader, even though it may come back from an alternative greater at at a nine, but even if it does, if it there's a big difference between paying $8 to have a card graded and $22 to have a card graded. So even if it did come back a nine and I sell it for close to what you know if I sell this if if this is from an alternative grader and it's a nine and a PSA 10 is going for 30 and I sell it for 25 because it's a different grader not PSA. If it cost me $8 to grade it instead of 22 there's my profit. There's my profit in that card. Then then this card comes pretty pretty profitable. If I pay $8 and I sell it for 25 and my cost of the card is basically nothing, a penny or less, it it I'm making I'm doing okay. My my return on my investment is good. You know, if I sell it for 25, you know, that's and I I got $8 into my grading, that's a 300% return on my money. If I sell it for 30 is at a PSA and it cost me 22 to grade it, I'm at eight bucks. Guys, that's why you're seeing so many great cards, good players that are not in PSA slabs. Alternative grading is going to gain a lot of steam. It already has. Look on eBay and it's going to gain a lot more steam, I believe, this year. And again, we've got a couple of uh videos on this channel. This is something I've been talking about for, you know, over a year. Okay. PSA 10 is $45. That's cool. Pay 22, make 45, double my money. I'm fine with that. But of course, it comes back an eight. An eight. Uh, so this is probably going to end up in our $15 slab box. $15 slab box. Unfortunately, this surely that doesn't say 10. We finally pulled a 10. The last 10 sold for $95. So that's good news. Again, our cost of goods on it was a penny. We got $22 in it. So, if we sell it at a show for, you know, $80, $85, then the customer will get a great deal and we'll do well on it. This was encouraging. This card, this was going to be this was going to be the bread and butter from this submission. A 10 last sold for $,95. Be This is a beautiful card. Corners are sharp as razors. centering the surface. This is a 10. Comes back an eight. Comes back an eight. A 10 sells for,95. And this is another thing I don't understand what's happening. I would love input from any of you. A nine sells for 90. $90 for a nine. A,95 for a 10. I don't understand. And an eight goes for 60. This is a $60 card instead of a $1,000 card because it came back an eight instead of a 10. That was going to be the big win in this submission, but it's not going to be. So, I don't know what I'm going to do with it. I might just hang on to it for a while. very disappointed if if PSA ever gets back to not making all the tens nines which is in my opinion it's I've talked to a lot of people and it's like you're not going to get a 10 unless it normally unless it's ultra modern that you just pulled out of a pack and it's perfect. A lot of cards that came back this this submission I knew were going to be tens. And you can see the number of nines we got. Okay, next up is my PC. This is Ellie. This is numbered to 75. There's only a pop four on this. It's mint 10. I'm just hanging on to it. It's going in my PC. Mint 10. Number 49 of 75. You know, it's not a rookie, but I like it. I collect Ellie, so that's I'm happy with that. Not a nine, but I'm hanging on to it. Next up, Otani. Knew this was going to be a 10. It was going to jam. Of course it didn't. $115 at a 10. A nine. $30. $30 for a nine. 10. 115. And if you look at this card, it's like it just blows my mind. It really does, but it is what it is. Next, I knew this would not be a 10. Tens are never tens in this card. It's the most overly produced. Again, the more cards graded, the less your opportunity to get a 10. This is perfect centering the surface in the back. Everything's clean, the edges. I mean, gorgeous, gorgeous, perfect. Basic running through the centering tool. 50/50 all the way around. Beautiful card. Beautiful card. If if you can't give this a 10, then you'll never give this this Bo Jackson 90 score will never should never get a 10 in my opinion. Um, a 10 is $475 is what the 10 go. The the comp on the 10 right now.4 $475. We sold our last nine that we had at a show for hundred. We sold it for $100. PSA offered me $39 for this. And I know it's not PSA, but you guys know $39 offer. There's no way we'll sell this for $100. We sell this card every show we go to. We sell them raw or we sell them graded. Was happy it came back in nine because you're not going to get a 10 in this card. It's just not going to happen. Next up, we I've got a lot of raw Griffies. Griffy was my guy back when my brother and I had our card shop. I just bought up Griffy's, bought them as many as I could get, and I told Don, "Every submission we do, just grab one and send it." And that's what we're going to do. We know we'll never get a 10. Probably, you know, we we have gotten a few nines. We knew this was a offcentered. It would not get, you know, I was really surprised it came back a seven. I thought it would be I thought it would be a six, but I think the last seven sold for like $106. These cards are going crazy. I think I'm just going to hang on to them for a while. We sold one raw in commerce this past weekend for $125 raw. You guys know what's happened to this card this year. We have one listed, this one is listed in our whatnot store. And again, I'm not I'm gonna sell them raw for 125. And but I'm gonna get as many great as I can because I I collected a lot of these during the time my brother and I had our card shop and now it's time to get them slabbed because I think this card's going to continue to move forward this year. I really do. The last card I want to talk about is this one. If you guys follow our ch I don't know what's happened. If you guys follow our channel, you know, for the last year, every month during the first six, seven, eight months of last year, we were buying five, 10, 15 of these bubblegum cards every single month on eBay. You guys saw it if you followed our channel. And what was our buy price? $12 or less. 12. And these cards are hard because they the corners ding up easily. They do. But you guys, if you watched us last year, we probably graded with PSA. I'm going to say 20 of these at least. 20 of these cards. And we were selling them. We sold we we we sell them like crazy every show we go to. But we were selling eights for like $30 and nines for maybe $70. Again, you're not going to get a 10. This card had is I can't even buy it anymore. You can't even buy raw for what we were selling eights and nines for last summer. This card is exploded. The last nine, which just came back in nine, the last nine sold for $258. Again, we were b we bought dozens and dozens of these cards raw for $12 or less. Had them graded, you know, selling them for $40, $50, and it's just gotten astronomically crazy. So, I'm probably going to hang on to We got two more at at a PSA order that we talked about that we've been waiting for for since August. We got two more in that order. And I'm just going to hang on to these cards for a while and see what happens because this market for this card has gone absolutely nuts. Okay guys, that's my PSA reveal. I hope you got some value out of it. It helped me dump my brain. And really, I'm trying to really systemize my approach to what I send to PSA and what I send to alternative graders. I'm telling you, collectors don't care for the most part. And we as a hobby have created what I call a self-imposed self-imposed PSA monopoly. It's self-imposed because a 10 is a 10 is a 10. And I'm probably going to do a whole another brain dump just on the PSA monopoly and how to break the monopoly because it can be broken. I've proven it to myself doing shows, the number of cards we sell, the number of collectors we talk to and listen to. This hobby is not dominated by people that watch YouTube videos. It's dominated by true collectors. They come out to the to the shows. They're looking for Braves cards. I had one guy this this week, he's he's he said, "All I all I collect is Frank Thomas and Braves." And if it's Frank Thomas or Braves that they don't have, they want. And if if you can provide it to them in a $15 slab from an alternative grader, they're going to buy it. They're going to buy it. They and and be happy and be thankful to get their hands on it. I believe in any business, your long-term value is in direct proportion that that that your your upside income is in direct proportion to the value you provide to the market that you serve. I believe that and that's why like on our whatnot, we're giving away we're doing unique things and we're giving away we're we're we're working with primary collectors and people like us that are building a building a sports card business whether it's on the side as a side gig or they want to make it a full-time a full-time income for them for themsel or just to fund their hobby because what we'll do what we call progressive lots where We might sell a stack of, you know, 50 Cincinnati Reds that each individual card, you know, might average two or three dollars on eBay profit. And [snorts] we might do a stack of 50 cards for, you know, $22 or something. So, we have a lot of flip, a lot of collectors who are funding their collection, people that are operating a side gig business and people that want to go full-time on our whatnot are and and again, we're just trying to provide value to the market. And that's what we hope you will do. We hope some way somehow this video, my ramblings on this unconventional PSA reveal provided value to you and for you. If it did, then please let me know in the comments. Your feedback would be appreciated. And if it worth if it's worth it for me throughout this year when we get start getting back our 20 to 30 cards from PSA hopefully every month if we follow through on our game plan if I need to continue to do these PSA reveals if you guys got value we'll make a series out of it. But you guys got to let me know. Thanks for watching. We appreciate it. Have a great week and we'll talk to you on the next video.
