Okay, you're here. Perfect. Okay, so it's definitely our busy season right now. I kind of call it like our playoffs. You probably know me already as the smartphone review guy, but this is so much more than just that. I mean, it's four channels for starters with different audiences, different topics, but also it's a 3,000 ft studio space and 18 people. And also, there's a robot in here. His name's Colossus. Of course, it's not just tech reviews. It's also car reviews. So, it's not just phones and it's not just cars. We also do a podcast in here. Every week we lock ourselves in this room for a few hours and talk about tech mostly. >> Let's go. >> I've got perfect vision right now. >> Are you watching something or no? Do you guys see? >> It's a It's a pie and a frittata. >> What the is a >> And then there's this channel, the studio run by the two people behind the camera this whole time. And so here I'm not just the tech review guy, but also the co-orker and the friend and boss sometimes and athlete sometimes. And so this year, we didn't just record tech reviews or just car reviews or just podcasts. We recorded everything. We have to go back to Cali. >> Congratulations, >> dude. I hope it works. >> Excuse us. Excuse us. >> So, all the good ideas and even some of the bad ones. So, if all of that is our playoffs, then I'll see you in quieter times off season. I think a bit of a misconception about YouTubers now versus a long time ago. I think a long time ago, YouTuber was one person uploading to their channel and it was just them and that was it. maybe one or two people and now everyone more or less understands that it's a job now and and people have teams and they have like PR and they have editors and there's there's these whole operations and I think a lot of people forget that there's still people under there the weight of the publish button being heavier than ever is actually taking that like really seriously. I'm not the best um manager of people, but it's something that comes with having such a team. So, the logistics behind who does what and pulling everything together and the travel calendar, all that stuff. Harper does that. >> I'm Harper Mowski and I'm the head of production. I think I was maybe expecting people to be a little bit nerdier. Hair, okay. But yeah, big old X. >> So, let's get to the inside. years and years ago, I think probably when Mariah and uh Ellis got hired, knew there was an MKBHD like jobs listing site and I had looked at it and been like, "What job could I ever do here?" And then this recruiter sent my info over to Marquez. He was like, "I don't know. You seem like you're good at your job and you know what you're doing. Well, I'll bring you. You'll figure it out." I feel it's but I feel that's kind of the the story for a lot of people here is that like you get hired and they're kind of like just figured it out. To really understand this phone, you have to look what's happening on the inside. H. So, there's basically one major new thing to care about with this phone. >> We don't have internet and we work at an internet company. So, here's a day in the life at MKBHD with zero productivity. >> I think the kind of big takeaway from my experience, especially the first few like weeks here, was not feeling pressured to put something out that we were not totally happy with, right? Yeah, >> that is an incredible breath of fresh air. >> All right, he's trying to figure out where he is. >> I'm Miles Somerville and I work here because I like cars and I help Marquez Brownley make videos about cars. The only other like W2 job I've ever had was like working at Best Buy for like a few years in college. Um, but this was the first time I'm working in like a a small corporate but also not corporate at the same time work environment where I'm making like like I'm on a salary. I'm busy. >> David, are you busy right now? >> I'm uh hold on. Wait, I'm really busy. >> Marquez is the same person from when I started doing this. I mean, it was Marquez by himself for like seven or eight years. And in 2017, I started I played ultimate frisbee with Marquez, but I also was a film major. I had heard some rumbling through mutual friends that Marquez was looking to hire someone, so I reached out. >> Andrew puts it up deep to Marquez. No. Yes. >> And he reels that >> Manganelli to Marquez Brownley. >> It scares me that I took a deep sigh and you immediately start recording me. I wanted to be a uh trauma surgeon. So, that was my goal. Uh I think it's a good thing that I didn't end up being a trauma surgeon because having seen a couple things traumatically. It's uh I don't I'm a little too queasy, I think. So, it worked out. Originally, actually, I didn't even have a camera. So, when we first started doing video podcast, I was off in the corner and I was in side table. And then I think when we brought Ellis on, Ellis is just such a firecracker that like it it no longer made sense to have that little table just be offscreen because Ellis has too much to say. >> I am actually the dumbest person in this office. >> I don't know why. >> Get over here. >> Look how you doing. >> It's mini me. Uh did I ever see myself working in YouTube? No. Uh I didn't really even know it was a job. Marsh has a good idea for South which is I know we want to do like live audience reaction because this is our first time doing it. So >> we are going it's our first live waveform event. >> Yeah. >> It's going to be on the Vox stage. It's going to be I think the first >> we're the first program on the stage. It's Saturday March March 8th at 11:00 a.m. and we're still trying to figure some ways out to involve the audience as much as possible because we've never had that chance. >> So you guys are pitching Marquez today. We're pitching Marquez Andrew aka Dad. >> We're going to drip out the whole studio. You're not ready for this. It's going to be great. >> Hey, my name is Tim McMahon and I am the lead graphic designer for the MKBHD channel, also studio channel and waveform channel and kind of every now and then an autofocus channel. >> And everybody, my name is David and I'm the junior motion designer here at MKBHD. Some of these t-shirts, like if you like them, if there's pieces that we could move, like all of these are still versatile, you know, they're not obviously set in stone, so we can swap things out or play. The first merch series that I did when I started here 4 years ago, there was no time constraint. There was no anything. It was like, hey, if you think of something, awesome. If not, no big, you know, no biggie. It was a very loose kind of organic structure. This was like, we want to launch by this time. How can we do that? We need to get samples with a lens inside. Putting a stick shift for when you want to shift your creative into higher gear. You know what I mean? >> Boom. And this one, you know, it's pretty to the point cargo room. The YouTube space is so different. It's like a it's a smaller team, but it is like uh it is a big company cuz you're really you're outputting to like masses. >> Awesome. So, who who's coping a shirt? Maybe like three shirts. >> The best designs are ones that look really cool independently and then on second glance have a dimension that a channel fan can appreciate. So, the first dimension is pure aesthetic and the second dimension is oh, I know what that means. Like an whether it's an Easter egg or like a second meaning to it. So with the cat brand, >> it's me. I'm the cat. >> We're going to do it like this, right? >> Yep. >> Planking. Yeah, >> I have no idea how many people are going to be there tomorrow. >> Okay, so it seats 500. My guess is going to be 75. You know, Southby tickets are really expensive. So, I don't really know. Like, I don't expect our fans to shell out that much money to go see us. We uh we know it's not going to sound perfect and that's the word. All right. So, we will speak >> 26 minutes before the show. Doing it live. We have no control over anything when we're recording. If they say something stupid, if we get something wrong, if something breaks, I can just be like, "Hold on, got to fix the camera real quick." >> True. >> Now we are We are just cooking on vibes, baby. It's just all vibes. >> If you're doing it after like a technology event, you know who the audience is, so it's a little more nerve-wracking, you know? I think it'd be much less nervous if it was a if it was a technology event. Does the feeling of like being about to go on stage feel kind of like right before like a frisbee game? >> That's a good question. Uh, a little tiny bit. A little because the stakes ramp as you're about to start and then you set the tone and then you're just kind of in the flow. So that little moment where you're about to set the tone. >> Sure. >> You haven't seen the crowd yet? >> No. I want to be surprised. Do you want to ask us about tech, about YouTube, about being a creator, about any of the stories that we've talked about? Start thinking about that. >> How do you translate what you learn doing YouTube video into your podcast? >> A lot of the production quality stuff that you see on the main channel, it became the expectation for the main channel. So, I think what was interesting was this sort of just chat show format became a void that we opened and the podcast was a perfect way to fill that. It's still high production for a podcast, but we have these stories and these incredible big pieces that we do on the MKBHD channel and then we can kind of just chill from there. It's a >> It's a different way of doing the same thing. >> No, no, we were bowing. We're bowing. >> No, I thought we were dancing >> in Austin. They played the theme music. The boys walked out. David tripped, which was hilarious. That was like I couldn't have written that if I had tried. But like think about how much we could do if we had control of everything. We could start with like a full stage blackout. We could like play the like the THX sound or something crazy like that. Hit like a massive strobe followed by like a big flood light that reveals like the three boys on stage like silhouette it. Like there's so much we could do that it would be tongue and cheek. It would be silly. But it would be so fun. >> Good show. >> Guys, don't sweat it. Don't sweat it. >> A lot of the questions I have are just what does the Emmy for example actually mean? because I I like you've mentioned whether you look at the numbers or you just look at the connection that people have or how into it people get or whatever you want to measure it by they're they're in the same category even though the ven diagram isn't quite overlapped I think all the stuff that we're making and all the stuff um that the academy recognizes are very much in the same category All right guys how long do we think the empty Snoop Dog wine bottle in our parking lot is going to It's either that goose flies away or it turns around and it tries to kill me. Let's hope for option one. >> Two of them. >> We call for backup. We're good. So, on the surface, the idea is actually really simple. I've talked about it before. The the types of cars that are best to go electric are the ones where it would be the best version ever. Being electric means the car is going to be bigger and it's long. >> Rich Ho >> is here going back to the motherland, California. >> Um, yeah, we're going to go look at some drones that do not need a controller to get you your things. Marquez has changed a lot since I started working here. He was never like a grind set guy, like he that was never his vibe. He was the most focused person I had ever met. Again, he's always been a really funny guy, great to be around, but I've seen him really take a deep appreciation in the people around him lately, and none of the quality has dropped. None of the the relentlessness has dropped. And then to me, it was like this like super crazy lesson, and like it's not all about the mamba mentality. Those that didn't know, Marquez is big fan of the office dog as a concept. And he's already clocked all the dogs as we go as we walked in. It is the morning. Um, yesterday was long. Yesterday was very long. Uh, Marquez has 21 stand hours. Uh, this is my second take of this video. Uh, actually Marquez says he can name every county in New Jersey. >> In alphabetical order. Would you like to uh, bless us, Marquez? >> Sure. As long as you don't ask me why I know this. >> What do you got? Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Kate May, Cumberland, Essex, Glouester, Hudson, Hunan, Mercer, Middle Sex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Payic, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, Union, Warren. >> Yeah, I would like you right here. >> I hope that technology continues to actually improve people's lives. I hope we're able to actually cover that and explain that and outline that um in ways that matter and like Zipline is a really good example of technology improving a person's life. I don't think there is enough of that right now. Um, okay. So, speaking of Switch 2, the the situation around pre-orders with it is is a thing that's rapidly evolving and interesting, and that's what we're talking about. As of right now, the pre-order is delayed in the US. It's still set to launch on June 5th, but pre-orders are now going to be pushed back a bit, potentially to still start shipping immediately. Uh, and that's because tariffs. I think a lot of people want me and others in this position to loop in more of the of the policies and the politics and things like that. Um, but at the end of the day, I am best at analyzing the product in front of me. So, that's kind of what I try to do as best I can. >> Whoa. So, today is April 10th. Um, and we have some B-roll going on with this bionic hand. >> You want to go away? >> Tech reviews are getting kind of weird, huh? Welcome to Dope Tech. I'm a tech YouTuber and I'm here to show you things you can't afford. >> I'm not going to reference it until I get to this point where I'm like, so, you know, obviously I have two hands, so you might be wondering how I'm going to demo. Now, obviously I have two hands, so you might be wondering how I'm going to review this Bionic hand. Uh, great question. >> I feel like there's always comments about like when people when there's like an ensemble and you see like the whole ensemble in its entirety of like, oh, why are these the people you have like or why aren't these the people? >> Which YouTuber do you think has the tallest audience? >> We were actually just going through the Miles questions. I think that one of the things that he gets more than any of us is like being compared to Marquez and stuff. Is that he would want to talk about or not? I was probably probably 14 the first time I got a comment comparing comparing me to Marquez. But what I think I've definitely gone out of my way to do is separate the way I make videos so that there's no way you can say that this guy is basically just a copycat of Marquez effectively. Growing up, Miles and I were in a really diverse group. I personally think that like Marquez maybe factored like a role to play in that. >> Oh, yeah. We were filming stuff. >> Oh, shucks. >> Lead forwards be whatever. So, what >> thing I want to highlight here? >> Technology doesn't actually >> This Wednesday is not like other Wednesdays because Mariah, the person holding the camera right now, is going to be on the podcast with us while Adam is gone. >> I'm Mariah and I'm the lead editor at the studio. I was hired just to do the main channel, which is what I basically still do. But I've kind of weasled my way into everything else whether they like it or not. What a list we have here. We we went through a journey together. By that I mean I witnessed a journey happen. So number one on your list, we have the iMessage that only allows you to send one syllable messages. And then number four, you guys settled on Venmo 50/50 coin toss if you get paid or not. I just think that's fine. >> They could do that for April Fools. Um, >> I just want all of our content to be consistent and I want it to all be good and I know everybody works hard. So, it's just like fine-tuning everything and I just want it to be the best it can be. The podcast is synced. It's ready to roll. I'm going to go home and start editing it. And me and Ellis are going to regroup tomorrow. >> Edit it when you get back to work tomorrow. No, I want to I want to speedun. Most of the time, nothing is expected of you after 5:00 p.m., but I can't speak for everybody. So, Adam works really hard. >> I was Adam this week and it's really hard. >> Yeah. Yours was like steak kebab with like his heart is now flat. It's flatlined like right. It's like trying to catch it. >> Yep. It looks >> uh you know a cake in here and it should hopefully have very specific text on it. >> I hope they actually wrote it. >> If they did, >> did you guys not check it? >> No. >> Here we go. >> Hell yeah. Look at it. >> Happy birthday to you and goodbye, David. Happy birthday to you. >> My arm We wanted to give you a parting gift. And what better way to wrap it than with New Jerseys best Wawa wrapping paper. Thing that I was always looking for was like the unicorn that everyone told me was a ridiculous thing to chase. Like I remember telling a friend. I was like, I just want to find a place that's like fun to work at, cool, and we do great work, and people are easy like easy to get along with. He was like, what the what are you talking about? That doesn't that's not a thing anywhere. and then came here and I was like, "Gotcha. >> There you go." There was a little bit of push back from my parents from from the elders were like, "You can't get a you can't get a job in art. You can't get a job in design. It's not real. It's not a real thing." Uh, but I proved them wrong. Who's laughing now? >> Don't get Don't do that. Don't get Doug. It is uh currently 7:30 a.m. on May 1st because I was having trouble sleeping because we haven't posted a 1 out of 10 on the studio in a few months. It's really hard keeping your head on straight. Luckily, I have a peer group that tells me I'm doing a good job, but it's hard when you open YouTube Studio, it says, "Hey man, why'd you take that vacation?" May is when things start to get a little more intense. We have product releases. We're invited out more to do more unique, weird stuff. We're going to like a a golf course next week. >> We are driving to Philadelphia today from beautiful North New Jersey to watch Marquez play golf. If Marquez wins today, there's like a 50% chance that he comes back and he does it again next year. And if he loses today, he will come back next year with a fervor because he is very competitive and he does not want to lose. My first job, I was a caddy at Essex County Country Club for two summers and then I volunteered at the Liberty Science Center for two more summers after that. The problem was I I wasn't very talkative and I never have been. So, nobody really asked me any questions. So, I kind of was just walking around reading everything and learning way too much about science and then going home. And that's fine. I enjoyed that. >> Didn't get a parking pass. Yeah, we uh we forgot to ask for our parking pass, so we didn't get one. We have passes to the event. We just have to figure out how to get into the event. There's two two boys in nature live living in nature. >> I'll introduce you to team number one. It is team Brownley from Maplewood, New Jersey. Team captain Marquez Brownley. >> Now, we've ended up on the wrong side of the golf course. So, we spend the next like hour walking around the golf course trying to figure out where Marquez is playing. >> Where's Marquez? >> Oh, yeah. What a three. >> It's kind of like a puzzle piece thing. Like Sean's feeling good with his irons off the tea. Sabrina was striping it on the range. >> So, eventually we do find Marquez and he's crushing it. His team is in the lead for like essentially the entirety of the game and Rich and I are like trying to keep up. Okay, let's go to him. He's getting on a cart. We should get on a golf cart, too. I think you guys want to get on this. >> I just asked that guy. He said we can't get on. >> Yeah, >> we're cooked. >> Marquez is like taking all of these W's while Rich and I are like regularly consistently taking an L every 20 minutes and then on the last hole. Well, >> must make here for Brown Lee if they want any chance. >> Started the day with a make. See if he can end the day with a make. Looks pretty good. Carried a little too much speed. >> The champs >> played phenomenally. What does it tell you about how difficult this golf course is playing? >> One of the first things that I heard here when I started working was like it's impossible to have ego here because Marquez is so good at everything that you can never really flex on anyone. >> We sold. What can I say? They iced us at the end. We We had such a good lead. We played incredible the entire time and then we were just cold. Good for them though. They hit good shots. They deserve it. >> The reason he's been in the game for 17 years is because he plays every YouTube video like it's a game of Frisbee or a round of golf. And if he loses, he's not going to love it. It's not going to feel good. He's going to learn, but he's going to play over and over and over again. He doesn't feel it like an artist. He feels it like an athlete. >> Yeah. I I would say I'm competitive uh in a lot of things. And it definitely manifests in honestly here probably just how good I want the videos to be and how badly I want us to be getting better at doing these things and doing more of them. >> It's going to get hot. You're going to feel it and it could crack. >> It's just bad. It's just it's just bad. >> Like there's no getting like it doesn't look okay. >> Uh I'm trying to think what are people going to think of what is getting made. Wow. The collar on this one is weird. Oh wow. The shape of these sleeves is kind of odd. Oh, this doesn't have a consistent color blue through their whole lineup. So, we got to scrap that. Just all these little things you don't think about in the prototyping and behind the scenes process until you get to the final result. And we're going to get to that final result and I'm hoping that people will think, "Wow, great collar, great hem tag, sleeve radius is amazing, super consistent blue." But they're not. They're just going to go, "I like the shirt or I don't like the shirt." So, yeah, that's just on us. People in general think YouTube is easy. And we think the reason they think that's easy is cuz if you see a 20inut video, it feels like those people think it took 20 minutes to make, which is very not true. And I think we have an extremely efficient line from start of video to end of video. That's really impressive. But that's impressive because of how we've created our workflows and how we like to work. Not necessarily because it's easy. >> Working on this one right now >> and then eventually go to a radial John Wick style. Not everything is meant to be the most beautiful design. Like I'm looking at cast iron videos right now that are totally made by like a guy in his 60s with like nothing more than like Microsoft Movie Maker and probably like a digital cam from 2008. And you're like that's a guy that is the guy that I want the advice from. I think with thumbnail design, if I have to give advice, it's just like simple is better. Simple can be boring, but it doesn't take too much to like communicate what you want to say to other people. All right, this video is up and it is doing double the amount of views as our last two out of 10. Great job, team. >> Rich, how are we going to hide how are we going to hide a bunch of cameras from Marquez? I don't know if that's possible. I don't know if we can hide a bunch of cameras from Marquez. >> Who's that? >> It's Harper. That's Harper. We're good. >> So, basically, I have 20 million in balloons and then also this 20licious banner. >> 20licious >> because I thought that would be cringy and weird for him. >> No way. You did not. >> No, no, no. The idea is he'll lower his desk and reveal it. did before even I started. >> He can't even go through that door anyway. >> We nailed that. >> We did it. We perfect timing. >> So, I think when we hit a million subscribers, I was done with those goals. Like hitting 20 is insane, but how is that any less ridiculous than 19? >> The OnePlus 13S, which has its own AI assistant, not Google or anything else. It's a new OnePlus AI. >> And something else happened. >> Something else happened, I think, over the weekend. >> We hit 20 million subscribers. >> Oh my god. >> THAT DIDN'T EXPECT OH, WAIT. That's not special effects. >> That's the idea behind personaliz. I have not met another YouTube audio person. I've met lots of really talented audio people through this job uh who work in film and TV, but I have not personally met someone else who's like works at a YouTube channel and is only doing audio. When you start a YouTube channel, you take on so much risk every day. We have to get views. And so if you don't see a direct correlation between sound quality and views, which I think for a lot of content, I don't know why you would hire someone like this. >> He's here. He's here. >> I am Rufus and I am my job title is audio producer, which for me means recording basically all the videos, which is different from Ellis. He does lots of post-production on all the videos. There's a lot of >> This is not what my first day was like. >> I'm a production sound mixer or at least I I was like YouTube is all about people who just like shoot and do all the audio and they edit the whole things. It's usually usually it's one person. This is kind of the only place on the East Coast that has a team that has a workflow that sort of has an ethos that supports the type of specialization that I do. It just didn't seem quite feasible. And then I got a DM from Ellis Ro. We've got a very busy 48 hours. Tomorrow we're going to a drag strip to do a big car shoot. We do at least one every year. But today, today is switch two day. >> Got the OG Switch here. Oh, I like that. What are you guys looking at? >> Nothing. >> Nothing. >> Nintendo Switch 2 unboxing >> where I would be. >> All right, team. We're about to start. >> I'm not the bad guy. >> Are you about to Nintendo Switch 2? >> Nintendo Switch 2. >> I'm about to Nintendo Switch 2. >> Nintendo Switch 2. >> Yeah, two. I'm awesome. >> Nintendo Switch 2. >> Two Nintendo Switch. >> This is not the Oid to Nintendo 2 Switch. >> I'm about to to Nintendo my pants. Software P's available. It'll download now, but I'd like to start the software, please. It's me. Sorry, I should say it's a me. Nope. Nope. Nope. It's 4:28 p.m. I'm supposed to go home at 5 and we're posting the OnePlus 13 video m possibly tonight, possibly tomorrow, possibly Saturday. Do I rush to finish it right now? I I guess I need feedback first. So, let's see what the the group thinks. But yeah, it's like happens here early. >> This is dope. >> Um, just to make sure we're good on gear before >> Yeah, I think But how many >> backup plan will be I have DPA 4061s which will sound just as good if not better. >> It's just about 8:00. I'm the last one here. Um, everyone else is gone, but I wanted to double check and make sure all our gear is packed for tomorrow's shoot. We'll be back bright and early 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. Me and Miles are going to go pick up this Lamborghini, so it's going to be a fun time. 7:49 a.m. I'm the first one here. I'm going to see if I can scare Miles as he gets into the office this morning. But yeah, I'm just gonna hide in the shadows here. Goodbye, guys. My heart rate is so high. I'm not good at this. Scaring people. Good morning. >> Damn it. >> I should have parked further away. >> Lots of water. Mara's ready for a drag ship suit. All right. Oh, yeah. >> Hey, Brandon, are you excited for today's shoot? >> I've never been more excited for dog. >> If we open the back, are we going to hit the rig? >> But actually, yes. Can you um >> So, we've got Brandon on visuals. Marquez is in the car behind us. Marquez is on the phone. >> Nice hat. Miles, >> can you guys talk me through what we're doing to prep for the filming? >> We are putting our suction cups on there. >> And then what's going to be uh put on the suction cup mounts? >> Uh go not GoPro uh DJI Action 5. >> This is the BTS of the BTS. Someone's standing behind me, I think, doing the BTS of the BTS of the BTS. >> Oh my god. This is the Rabbit R1 colorway. >> It is very hot. >> Yes. >> Please be careful outside. >> Yeah. Uh, and we have to walk basically like the entire length of the track to get inside and then find locations inside the track. >> Yes. So, >> it's a good time. >> Yeah. I haven't >> Sound is good other than I'm going to give So, sound is not good. I'm going to give Marquez and Miles the once over. After that, we're we're ready basically. >> Sick. >> Battery level is low. >> Yeah. >> Aircraft will return to the home point in 10 seconds. >> No, you're not allowed to do that. >> Just me. sweating. >> Holy damn. >> It's like not even close. >> Uh I think that when people hear producer, yeah, I think that probably the misconception is he doesn't need one. And I think that that is true for a lot of our team is why does he need all those people? And the truth is that it would not be possible to put out the level of content, the amount of content in the timelines that we do without the amount of people that we have. And I think even more importantly potentially, it would not be possible for Marquez to live a happy, fulfilled, balanced life without the people that he has here. Everyone here has like really different life stories as far as where they come from, but I think this works because we're all professional humans personally when we need to be, but we also just really like making good videos. A successful shoot. Uh I think this is the world's first YouTuber ran dragstrip run of the quad motor R12. It's a fast car. It's a fast car, >> I promise you. >> Boom, seagulls. >> I promise you. In headphones, it's crazy. >> It's crazy. >> How was your first week, man? >> It's good, man. It's fun. >> The the dream when I was a lot younger is like working in YouTube, making content like this >> and traditional film making was kind of what I did when I realized that it was like not a realistic goal. I was on a flight with this kid. He was like, he's scrolling through YouTube before we took off and I was like, "Oh, you watch YouTube? Like, who who do you like? You like Marquez Brownley?" Like, you know, you like, "Do you like the studio channel maybe?" >> He's like, "I like Mr. Beast." I was like, "That's awesome." I was like, "Have you ever thought about maybe making YouTube videos? Do you like the idea of making YouTube videos?" When I when I was his age, all my friends wanted to be YouTubers. And he goes, "No, I don't have the money to do that." >> The way you edit this versus the way Mariah edits it is very different. She goes a bit more docy style. You're a little bit more YouTube style. So, what is the ultimate like vision you have for what it's going to look like? >> I wish people could feel the way that I felt when I was a 15-year-old kid watching YouTube videos. >> What is that feeling? Like, where you just >> you can be anything. You can do anything. >> Like, our point of view is kind of like we like making YouTube videos. Like, we want to be mature YouTubers. We don't want to just become filmmakers or like become something that's not YouTube. working. Like, you would think that making videos about phones is always fun, but guess what? It's a piece of glass with some metal and a chip and objectively a lot of the same. It gets boring. But um we are able to, you know, be kind of indulgent with like making cool sets and take the time to shoot cool B-roll and cool intros and like that's the stuff that makes it fun and like makes a creator tick. It's hard, but like you can't complain. This is the Nothing Phone 3. And yeah, it's ugly. >> Oh, wait. I think I see Marquez. There he is. >> He's 82. Rufus, as a person who plays ultimate, >> I don't play ultimate. >> Oh, as a person who plays disc golf, what is the difference between ultimate >> and disc golf? >> In Ultimate, they have a disc that's significantly larger. It's called an ultra store. >> Um, so we don't know the rules and we're trying to Google the rules in real time. I'm sorry, Marquez. Um, it looked like somebody was holding it for too long. >> Yes. >> I thought this was 10 out of 10. DJ's going crazy right now. Empire won 23 to 19. Another W for Marquez. >> I'm I'm converted to a sports guy now. >> Marquez, >> how's it going? >> Great game. >> That was a good day. >> Hi. What do I do? I and a lot of, you know, longer tenured players and leadership keep saying is overcommunication comms, comms, comms. And that's also true here. If we are as connected and communicative as possible, then we will actually grow faster and grow more strong and get better at what we do faster. So, I guess uh what I'm saying is we're a Frisbee team. >> But I will be out of town, as I've mentioned, for two episodes of the podcast, >> not three. >> Yes, >> I believe it's two. >> What are you doing, Marquez? >> I will be competing in the World Games event for uh Ultimate Frisbee for Team USA. is in Changdu, China. So I cannot join the podcast from the other side of the world. >> Okay, Marquez. So you leave for um China in 3 weeks. So Marquez plays frisbee a lot. He's very good at it, but what that means when he goes away for tournaments is I might have to take what would be 3 weeks of production and put it into one week of production. We need to film two bananked videos, sports recovery tech and uh two iOS videos, the iOS beta and the iPad OS beta. Tesla robo taxi, the uh iOS uh liquid glass short. You got the Gwagon and the Escalade for autofocus. You are filming reacting to our at home desks. uh the studio game show and the short video for how to edit high quality videos and your collab video for uh transistors >> and two podcasts and the live show. >> Correct. >> We got 3 weeks. So like >> it's such a long time. >> Three whole weeks. >> It's like why am I even bringing it up? >> All right. It's live stream day. Adam and I have been here since 8. It's 9:00. We just kind of finished up a little outline that's a retrospective of the podcast. How many people do you think at its peak will we have watching this live stream? >> 325. >> Tim, what do you think? >> You stole my answer. It's peak. How many people do you think will be in the stream? I think at its peak we are going to have um dude. I don't know. >> Oh my god. Sorry. >> Wait, we're not live, right? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> You want me to count down? >> Well, we're already live. >> Yeah. No, no, no. But they can't. >> They can't see you yet. >> I see you live on the thing right now. >> Okay. Yeah, we're live. >> Yeah, we're live. It's like, >> okay, great. We're still finding our groove. We're still an evolving episode. We're adding new segments in. We're changing how we do things. And I think that's how you know you you've built something cool is retaining an audience while making changes on the fly and seeing direct correlations to those changes is pretty awesome. >> It's I go on and off with like do I have the brain to be a coach. I was a captain of my college team that kind of felt like coaching because there's a lot of beginners on the team. I've done some clinics where like I go back to my old high school and like talk to the kids and the the kids who are already pretty good and sort of give them fundamental advice on playing better. But the whole team thing is uh I don't have that vision visionary ability yet. >> How's your first day back, Olivia? >> It's been so good. You know, I'm just so excited to be back with these people and hear all the things that they have to say. It's so fun. Coming here to the studio was such kind of a tight-knit environment was so special. You know, you feel so safe and comfortable around everyone. Um, and it really felt like they trusted me to kind of really get my hands on things and to actually do projects that I felt like were, I don't know, giving benefit to the channel. >> This time from the Venetian Expo Hall at BS, I am currently being jiggled by one of Dr. Fuji's uh, this appears to be a thigh and glute shaker. Um, it's this is fantastic. I I have to say this is the best product, most innovation. We are getting ready what might be the most ambitious production we've done in our studio. Maybe not period, but in here, which is the second studio channel game show. We moved the buzzers in from Waveform. We have that set up. We're flying the quazar tubes in the ceiling right now so that we have some like visual feedback on set. Rufus is currently programming what will be the first check that out the first moving par uh we will have in a production here at MKBHD. It it didn't feel like I was at work. Like I was I caught myself thinking a few times like man I'm like here getting paid to do this. Like I'm here getting paid to do this stuff. That's really different than a lot of the jobs that I used to do in freelance where you sort of you show up, you're responsible for one thing, you come in, you do it. It's way easier to feel like that's my work on the screen that I'm watching and feel good about it and and go home and be like, "Yeah, man. I really I did something really cool today." Happens a lot more often than it did. >> So, we have a couple LEDs. There are tube lights and the players are indicated by these warm tubes. Marquez is going to be magenta cuz we love messing with him. And me and Mariah are going to be yellow and orange. WELCOME TO WHO'S THE SMARTEST IN THE STUDIO. >> I am your host, Ellis Roin, and today we are joined by our three lovely contestants, Mariah, editor extraordinaire, Marquez, the big honcho, and creative d artistic V. I don't remember. I'm sorry, Vin. >> It looks great from here. >> It feels great. Yeah, the colors are like the colors are really solid like vibrant. >> That's the first thing like that yellow is something I've never seen before. One of our trips. >> Yeah. >> When you guys come back, you guys will be changing pieces. >> There's a lot of hype. What if it's not that great? >> I think it's just going to be a regular shape. >> You'll be touched by greatness. >> I I've gone to business school, but I'm not the person for that job. Jonno is the person for that job. And he'd already come from experience and done that before. So he picked up those rains incredibly fast. >> We were just about to board and then we got a notification that said we were delayed by 2 and 1/2 hours. 2 hours 50 minutes. So we left the airport, went back to the car, started driving back to the studio and then it got undelayed and we're boarding in 20 minutes. So we're back. We literally just did a loop around the airport and parked in the exact same spot. >> We're doing the LeBron interview. Uh, LeBron's actually interviewing Marquez, which is really cool. The kind of like zeitgeist of YouTube has changed so much because people about to graduate, the number one job is to become a YouTuber, thinking that's easy and you're going to get easy money. You if you think you know YouTube, that is the most detrimental thing you can ever think cuz it changes every day, especially with AI. Good >> to see you, man. >> What's up? Good to see you. Appreciate you. >> Yeah, good to be here. Let's do this, man. >> It is what Marquez says. There's so much pressure before you hit publish. And I know that cuz I've done it 400 times. I used to remember before you hit publish, I would usually just to hype myself up, I would just start screaming and I would just go like yolo and just like hit that publish button. And that's everyone thought I was just making a joke, but that was actually just like me just getting over the anxieties before pushing publish. Part of it is for the people that are watching, but my goal was always to make stuff that I would want to watch. >> Yeah. It was a hobby. >> Yeah. >> You know, which >> Yeah. >> Ultimately has now turned into kind of a job, but it's still fun. >> You think this is enough water? >> They're doing something with the G Wagon and I want to see. So, my one requirement was I had to vlog it. So, here we are. We are outside. I'm going to see if I could find them. I found them. So, it's a lot more like vibrant and energetic now than it used to be. >> Baby, >> before it was much more like, "Hey, how's it going?" blah blah blah, like whatever. And we were still getting to know each other, too, so we couldn't really like go crazy. But now, I think it's just like all hell breaks loose in the mornings until it's time to work. Hey. >> Hello. Hello. >> Good morning. Do you want Do you want to tell your in the life what time it is? >> It's 7:02 right now and uh you originally called me at like 6:45. So, I thought something bad had happened. >> Do you want to take a gander at who's sick today for the game show shoot we've been producing for 4 weeks? >> Is it you? >> No. >> Yes, it's not me. >> It's not me. >> Mariah? >> No. It's worse than Mariah. >> Alice? >> Yep. >> Yesterday, Vin sends a message that his car broke down. He won't be able to make the shoot. Okay, one contestant out. We call up your average consumer. He says he comes in as an alt. This morning, Ellis calls me 6:00 a.m. says, "Hey, I'm sick. Marquez is going to China at the end of today, so we have to shoot today. And more importantly, if Ellis gets Marquez sick, his tournament in China could be screwed over. We are not jeopardizing Frisbee. Never jeopardize Frisbee." So, we're adapting. >> Ready? >> Yeah. >> Let's just WELCOME EVERYBODY TO a subbrand from Logitech. Fun fact, my first YouTube video to ever hit 100,000 views was my review of the Logitech UE Boom in 2014. >> 500 or 500. 500. All right. The ninth version of this phone was the king. >> So, you just got two wrong answers. >> My biggest fear with the studio is and and always will be that I waste my co-workers time because I see how hard people work here and I see how busy people are and I know how much reward there is in working on a video that does 5 million views on the main channel. And so the question is how can you do that for 10 times fewer views on the studio? And I think the answer over and over and over again has been you have to take the time to listen to people. >> Do we have any notes for presentation? >> If you want the audience to like you more, make it about yourself less. >> That's a good idea. >> Smartest in the studio. >> Okay. Ready? Welcome everybody to another episode of Who's the Smartest in the Studio. Today we have five different categories for many a product that you probably need to know about. >> Oh, uh, he should do something. >> He will once they get off of >> He should like take the ball. Come on, sports guy. >> I was say for those watching, Eric really understands the sport. Come on. >> The early days where it felt mostly like just Marquez and I to now the days where like there are lots of days where I'm in here and there's like six of us and Marquez isn't in and you know when I started that wouldn't have happened >> cuz I don't want to mess with the overall room tone for this >> 4,000. It's crazy. >> Oh yeah. >> What do you think or just Oh, >> it is USA. It is gold medal. It's universe time and it's a gold medal team USA. Robin >> and the future of American ultimate is >> we actually had several conversations like should he fly through California and then do it a capture in California or they back and like >> so I'm setting up some places for Marquez to shoot the Pixel 10. He's actually going to get to shoot it here for the impressions rather than having to go somewhere which is kind of a big deal. They accommodated us because he's in China uh playing Frisbee right now and then he's going to come back and is going to have to immediately on his first day back look at all the Pixel 10 lineup and shoot stuff. So, we set up this little living room over here for him to shoot at with the credenza in the back. >> Marquez will have like 4 hours for a hands-on. Then you'll have to write a script, film it, and then get it done. They leave around 400 p.m. And then we have to publish an embargo at by 12:00 p.m. the following day because 1:00 p.m. is the Google event. >> Oh, dude. Is that cast? >> So I' I've never seen a city lean as hard into one animal as I have >> Chang leaning into Yeah, we kind of have our uh our tent pole moments around the calendar that we know happen every year. We are the busiest by far in quarters three and four because that's when the most products come out. Every company has to have their thing on the shelf before the holidays to get sold and have their, you know, big Q4 push. >> Let me take a drink. >> Yeah. Have a drink. Have a drink. shooting table. >> It's 5:32. >> Said she gave it to me. >> I got really tired last night, so I slept on it. Woke up this morning and I finished it at 11:00 a.m. >> public. And also, >> I'm recording this after like 20 hours or so of travel back from Chungdu, China, where we just won gold with Team USA in Ultimate Frisbee. >> It feels great. >> Oh my gosh, it's a huge moment. >> It's so big. >> Yay. >> Yay. >> Hello. We're getting into smartphone season. And you know, smartphone season's hitting when the podcast starts just popping off. and we had a one out of 10 last week. But um Pixel just came out, Pixel reviews this week. We're relaunching merch and Tim and Brandon and Jonno are doing a bunch of really fun stuff with that that I honestly can't wait for. Then we're already booking stuff for iPhone even though we don't even know when the iPhone date is. And then who knows what else comes back, but this is just like crunch time in our world. So cool. Uh well, it's September. >> Woohoo. >> You know what that means? It's Techmber. We have the merch shoot on Friday. We know uh next week is the Apple September event and that's Tuesday and our podcast which will be out there in California on Wednesday. >> I just want to like make sure everyone is comfortable where you're on a shoot and you know we're all just messing around somebody and >> it's okay. Yeah, I got it. Okay. So, we're heading into September which we're going to kick off with the segment for the NFL. The day that goes live is when we'll do the merch shoot. After that, we're going to the iPhone event in California, which will be a double pod plus an impressions video for the MKBHD channel. When they get back, MKBHD will have an unboxing video, followed by a review for each of the iPhones. Then he's going to head out to the MetaConnect, also in California, get the new sunglasses, then come back, do a video on that. After that is the Apple Vision Pro and then I think we start to wind down time. So it's like we do autofocus at the beginning of the day or do we or do we really want to block studio into 2 hours? >> My dad always would say like shoot free throws before you shoot three-pointers and I feel like Waveform and MKBHD are kind of our free throws. We'll obviously just wait to see what the verdict is tomorrow, but >> tomorrow's going to go really quick. >> There's definitely like >> that would have been a big whoopsuit. >> Why do we need photographers? Because we all know how to work cameras. >> Cuz they are professionals and we can focus on the creative side and uh it's a lot more work than you think. We're not trying to do anything inauthentic. Like, that's why we hired Mike is because we we feel like we can capture something more authentic with him. >> Ellis is a champ. We were up until 1:00 a.m. last night doing NFL stuff. >> We are efficient. >> Yeah, true. >> And we have way too much to do to get weighed down on one channel. We have to get through all four channels today. So, we got to have to do it all quickly. >> You ready for your close-up, Mr. Brownley? Born ready. Oh, dude. That's awesome. >> It's all against it. Yeah, >> I do well with a lot of directions. >> All right, nice. If I don't say anything, it's cuz you're crushing it. >> So, and look around all that. >> What's the definition of the word aura? >> I think the definition of the word aura is Ellis right now. choke someone out if I saw him standing on my door like that. I'm not going to lie. >> I already feel like we have pretty much every single like banger frame I was hoping for from this. Uh, so the rest is just gravy. It's It's Friday, but it doesn't feel like Friday. Maybe it's maybe it's like the 2 hours of sleep I had last night, but Oh. We're wrapped, baby. >> We're wrapped, baby. We did it. That's a good one. >> That's uh 3,000 photos right there. >> 3,000 photos. No big deal. Someone's going to have to go through those. >> Is it Tim? >> It's going to be part of me. >> Yeah, >> he loves it. >> Okay, >> so we're doing two podcast episodes. >> No, no. Okay, >> let's let's just let's focus on figuring out logistics >> for what? >> For the street. Man on the street. Okay. >> Where I pictured it is there are these like long concrete benches. They're not benches. It's like a divider. >> I think I'm about to leave. So I cannot >> What time is it? 1:49. >> All right. So the first car is >> anious. >> How many minutes till boarding, my friend? >> Six. We've never missed a flight like this. This will be the first time. >> It's not looking good, though. >> Just go into the touchless ID line. Just go into the touchless ID line. should take this and go through. That bag needs to make it on the plane. >> All right, everyone's on the plane. Got to get to A30. >> Let's go. >> How many minutes we >> uh like 5 10? >> Excuse us. Excuse us. >> Left. Let's go, Eric. Use those long legs. Yep. All right, David. I love my job. >> Okay, I'm supposed to ask what you guys watched on the plane. I watched 2 hours of the F1 movie. Unfortunately, it's 2 hours and 20 minutes long. So, I'm in suspense right now. Who do you think won? Probably the good guy. >> Good morning and happy Apple event day. It'll be a good one. So, in like an hour and a half, Marquez, Brandon, and David are going to head over to the Apple event, start their briefings, and then the folks who don't have press passes are going to be here at the hotel watching the event live. Then things get interesting. >> No, the first one was second. >> Those are very similar. >> Was the second one? >> Welcome. >> We're here for Apple. >> Good morning. Wow. Thank you so much for joining us today. >> That's pretty cool, guys. Metal FX upscaling. >> What is your favorite part of the Apple event today? >> Tim Cook's sneakers. >> Can you tell us your favorite part of the Apple event today? >> The orange and the pro looked pretty nice. >> My favorite part was Tim letting loose, bending those knees a little bit. >> Favorite part of the Apple event? My favorite part of the Apple event is the Ferrari 849 Tessterosa 1000. While Marquez, Brandon, and David are doing their standard little journalism thing, making their videos about the iPhone, the podcast crew is going to go to Apple Park and then shoot a video where anybody near Apple Park can come on to the podcast. So many things could go wrong. I was mainly worried about security just coming and kicking us out because technically it is like Apple's property. So, I was mainly worried about them coming and seeing us with tripods and stuff and being like, "Hey, you you can't do that here." >> All right, sound speeds. >> Marcus, you have somewhere to be. We're going to tape another podcast tomorrow. This has been a a breath of fresh air. It's so so great to have you on this beautiful outdoor set. You too, David. This has just been fantastic. >> Setting up for a A-pil for his first iPhone impressions video. >> I'm waiting for lighting. >> Pretty sure of like composition. I just don't know if lighting is going to actually hold up. >> Okay, I'll hang around in moves. >> When's your last briefing? >> It's funny like going it's like one of the unique things about YouTube, I guess. Like maybe this drama in particular where it's like you have to be on camera and you have to do the talent thing and like you know really push yourself to be on like that and then you have to go back and like switch into crew mode and set up for Marquez. >> Do we have uh a mic we can use to shoot >> this? That's an Ellis question. >> I know we have that. Do we want to do this for our short? like he just asked me to like lap him up for a short and I like couldn't even I was too tired to even like make the value judgment of like should we should I take the time to lap him up? Should we just use like a clip on creator mic? >> Let us know if you want more food. >> I think I'm 6 in the morning >> when I upload this. >> See you later. This is what it looks like at 7:21 p.m. Eastern time at a MKBHD Apple event. Everyone has gone home. Brandon just messaged me and sent over thumbs. Oh god. Here's the first one. Boom. Second one. >> Hello. Morning. We have come to touch. We'll >> get there eventually. I think I got orange. Oh my god. >> Are we recording? We started. like sl I I have my headphones if you want to use them. My headphones are noise cancelling a little. >> So, I'm going to take a snack break cuz it is 11:17 right now and I'm hungry. My went to college with our friend Nathan. We graduated together and he's been working at Apple for like 10 years. We're all still kind of like working and doing late nights or like an allnighter around the same project or theme. I know it just feels like college again. It's kind of fun. Not in the same place, but still like united by some some shared project. >> Mic check 123 ABC. >> All right. I'm going to have my head my phone on super loud. So for any reason you need me audio wise wise or video >> should be good. Yeah. Yeah. >> Good luck, Marcus. Good luck, boys. >> Get it. Thanks. >> Okay, I figured I'd show you all the before and after cuz this is kind of my favorite part of the process. When it's all said and done, you can just click a couple buttons and you go boom boom. Look at that. Pretty sick, right? >> I actually found it pretty simple to to synthesize my thoughts on on everything they announced. Hello. Life is still your fame. I'm also going to drop off. >> What time did you finish the the video yesterday? I hit publish at 1:05 a.m. Pacific. So 4:00 a.m. Eastern. >> Yeah, it's just like not ideal, but people are waking up now, so that's good. The adapter might be here. >> Hey, we've been chatting for a while. Thank you guys for watching and listening. Uh, of course your regularly scheduled programming will continue, but stay tuned for some other programming, but stay tuned for some other stuff that's also in the pipeline. It's Teeptember and Tectober. There's a lot of stuff always happening. So, uh, get subscribed if you haven't already. >> I was kind of surprised that this bag wasn't happy double checked considering >> like, so, do we think this is our biggest first 24 hours ever for a video? >> It's the second biggest. >> I'm not saying it wasn't. >> This is the second um, most views any video I've ever made has gotten in the first 24 hours on YouTube. >> Marquez is going to unbox some phones. All right. So, by the time you watch this, I will be several days into my iPhone 17 series testing. >> God, that air is so sexy. So cool. Can't want to hold it. >> Exactly. >> Put in a We'll put in a break so that this can happen there. So, >> there's one more section there. I think do you want this to take up as much? >> Being able to to articulate exactly uh what is in your head? I think like that helps with with being able to pull a team together. And that's that's the thing that I love most is working with artists and working with creators in in their own specific skill set. The stuff that I always look back on and go, "Oh, that was so great. That was so much fun. I'm I'm so stoked on this are the cinematic intros I do with Brandon and Vinn and now Rich and sometimes Miles and and Michael a lot too. Such a beautiful family. No, but that's the stuff that I'm like that was so sick. >> Andrew setting up the robot right now cuz uh we're shooting an intro for 17 air. >> Just making the intros. It's never 100% to script. Sometimes it is and we get lucky of really good planning, but being able to adapt just takes a little bit of uh work. Sometimes a little bit of uh back and forth. >> Michael, Michael, I'm here with literally everyone. >> Uh we had a question. >> We think that that we think that Apple copied you and we're trying to figure out if they did or not. >> Um I am Michael Emer and I am the head of motion design at MKBHD. Um, so anytime you see animated motion graphics on main channel or studio channel videos, um, that is me or someone else, but typically me. >> Did you Did you do this the pro like >> I live in San Francisco, hence why I'm on >> sending you a little >> on a remote call right now. >> Um, I don't think I did that. >> All right, there we go. Vin and Brandon always do a great job of like finding a new angle that's interesting or a new setup lighting setup or maybe using the camera robot or something like that. And those types of shots and that type of work is typically the most like uh creatively intensive. >> You good? >> No. >> I hate deep bench scores and I hate doing them and I'm trying to get Michael to do them cuz I don't want to do it. But I would love if when you're talking about um what is going to be the live translation >> September it's really busy. I didn't really think I was going to review these. There's lots of other stuff I got to get to. But just like last time, Apple sent me their latest AirPods Pros. >> Um then uh he's going to go to Metacon. Uh the unboxing will publish on Wednesday. It'll be kind of just a judgment call on whether or not we're going to then publish the Metconnect video that same day or you know later that week. You're going to see a shot in the intro and if Brandon decides to use it that looks really cool and it looks like we used some sort of crazy filter, right? And you're wrong. Well, we did use a filter, >> but we also used another filter on top of the filter >> and that filter is this animation. Animation animation still vinyl shot. >> Cool. Sweet. Yeah, this is this is going to be a pretty simple one relative to >> still. >> This is the funniest intro for an incremental update in the world. >> So, we made some music or I made the music for the iPhone 17 Pro intro. That's right. That's an original track. These are all some steps that I took that brought us from the first idea to where we actually landed. The first one sounded like this. We got this really flowy kind of. It's much more like sort of pieces assembling kind of vibe. Ah, the 17 Pro intro. This was a really fun one. Let me show you how we made the type. After I got Brandon sketch, which looked like this, I hopped into Adobe Fresco and started sketching out different ideas. By the time Olivia and I were done drawing, we had a handful of options with slight variation. So, I pulled that into Illustrator and started refining all the edges of each letter form. Last thing we're doing in Illustrator is opening up the 3D panel and clicking on this little inflate button, which is a really magical feature that just converts 2D objects to like 3D balloons. But we wanted to move a different direction from this. It didn't sort of have the dramatic punch you in the face feeling that Brandon was kind of looking for. He wanted it to feel like you are waking up staring off into a sunrise, but the sunrise perks. Okay, this is such overkill, but I really wanted the lighting on this type to feel like it's in the same world as the shots that Brandon was getting of the real phone. So, I had Brandon and Andrew take a 360° photo of the robot room so that I could create an HDRI sphere around my scene. As a result, you get these super detailed reflections with minimal effort. Wow. So, you can see on the left, this is just straight out of Blender, and on the right is all the grain and effects applied. I could tell Brandon was like, "Yeah, man. This we can work with this." And what that says to me is it's not there yet. Sometimes the right idea is not to do a revision, but to start over and chase the same feelings. Chase the feelings you know that you need now, but start from scratch. And so I didn't hit the right button. We got this All right, guys. Last minute predictions. How well will this iPhone Air review do? >> In 24 hours, it will have 2.6 6 million views and in 48 hours it will have 3.8 million views. >> Marquez has the intro. We'll let Marquez cook and then hopefully tomorrow there is going to be >> air video up. Every product design is a series of trade-offs. It's like a slider where you can push it either towards form or towards function. And it can be exciting when you push it way towards form. This is the iPhone Air. >> You know what else? Blue. >> Avatar. >> You know what else is coming out in December? >> Avatar. >> Wait, is it? >> Yeah. That's probably why he wants to do this. >> Wait, so Marquez, are you are you interviewing James Cameron for the meta event? >> Yeah. >> Have you seen Avatar? >> We have storage. We have a lens or we have a lens cleaner. >> Yeah. No, I'm sure James Cameron views this as a very small production like a oneman band type thing. >> Welcome back. Uh we were going to talk about Marquez's James Cameron interview at he did a meta a few days ago. Uh but during the break we got into a big argument about what is more dangerous for a newcomer. Uh, specifically Marquez Brownley, uh, elite horse racing or Marquez getting dropped into the Red Bull F1 car. >> No, but the horse is not a wild animal that if it's a train, if it's a train, >> make it to the end, >> then the car. >> No, those horses literally are more automated than a car. >> Most people couldn't drive like a regular rear wheel drive car with traction off. Like, none of you can do that. He doesn't know how to counter steer and control this. I'm familiar with audio projects and it seems like they take advantage of either some bleeding edge technology or some new technology to to give a new perspective or make something incredible. And I wonder if you see firsterson cameras, do you picture a first person movie being interesting? >> Well, I I think the filmmaker becomes the character. Most filmmakers are perfectly happy way back behind the camera, not being constantly studied. But on the other hand, we've got a whole generation coming up on social media that are just used to being observed all the time and and even, you know, the whole influencer culture. People want to be observed. I >> feel like a lot of my videos are me trying to put the device in your hands so you can see what it's like to hold it and own it before you actually buy it. >> And as tech gets better, I'm able to do that with higher fidelity and more personality and and closer to real time. But you become >> you become the filmmaker and the performer at the same time. >> Yeah. >> Is this going out today, Mar? >> If everything goes perfectly, >> yes. So, >> all right. The internet has been down for about an hour. >> No signs that it's coming back. So, this is another day in the life of doing absolutely nothing >> at Marquez Brownley's studio. How do you feel >> about the internet being down? >> Doesn't really affect me right now, but it probably will suck later. >> I damn. >> Um, no one has seen Marquez since the Wi-Fi went out, and we think we know where he is. >> He's not in his car. >> He's not in his car. >> Someone lied to us. Oh, it's over there. >> What are you doing, Marcus? >> There's no internet. >> Or at least the building has no internet. So, I am using my one bar of 5G to finish the script for this for the skit. >> Wait, are you guys taking you guys all riding home with wild? >> Yeah, >> boys. >> Oh, nice. >> I want to ride in the Bentley. >> Gentleman says, "Welcome to honesty. That's the world's most honest salesman here. How can I help you? You're that guy from uh Wait a second. You're the guy who uh you got the 16e last time. That's you, right? Yeah. Check out right over here. >> Okay. So, I mean, you could spend $2,000 on a brand new 2 TB 17 Pro Max in orange. But you could also just buy the 17 and use it the exact same way that you were going to. Yeah. That's Yeah, >> there's ground up and there's >> We made it through Techmbmber and uh obviously a lot went really well and we have a lot still coming up which is exciting too. >> Um our month over month numbers are crazy. Um everything is um over 100% increased from last month. Most of them are over 200% increased from last month, which is amazing. >> The next video is the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. >> Welcome. It is October 1st, which means it's time to start buying gifts for our annual gift exchange at the studio. So, I'm going through buying gifts. I'm like I'm like a Santa Claus from Illinois. Okay, today we are finally shooting this collab between Marquez and Epic Space Man. He saw one of his videos like a year ago. So, this is our first big mocap and he's really excited to put it into production. >> I love how everything is taped off here. This is quite the undertaking. >> It's very exciting. I mean, like it's I think our first time doing mocap for Marquez and it's going to be awesome. I think he's really excited to collaborate with him. I've done various mocaps things before, but this one just for YouTube, it's fun working with another creator who's in the relatively fast turnaround version of like what would be a traditional media thing. >> So, Pixel Fold is almost done. Um, and we got all the B-roll in and I'm waiting for the sound mix from Ellis. >> I heard like >> Why did everyone get here? What? >> Playing this at the volume of like >> a movie theater. >> I really Hey, does anyone know what 67 means? I'm doing a video to find which YouTuber is the best chef. So, you're making me the In-N-Out Burger. Everybody on your team seems really amused about that. >> Yeah. >> You love In-N-Out. >> You love In-N-Out. You can do it. >> You're cooking with precision. Good. You want to make sure they fit material. Yeah. Ready? I'm ready. Cheers. Cheers. Okay, >> you said it. Like that stuff from like Do you ever see that episode? I I think you're beautiful. >> There it goes. It's driving. Oh, it's driving on under its own power for rolling shots first cuz we want to drive the car, kind of get a feel of it after they give their little spiel, and then we'll dig into a- roll and then hopefully be wrapped up by like one, two. It's very often that we get multiple cars delivered uh at the same time or on the same day. But having two cars that don't really belong here, aren't supposed to be sold here yet, that's not something that happens very often. But some way, somehow, we managed to get both a Xiaomi SU7, a Chinese EV that is not sold here, delivered to the studio, and the Apter EV, which I mean is a car that most people have no idea exists. But if you're within the uh tech world and have a lot of MKBHD waveform lore, you'll know that this car has been uh in the works since I was like a like an actual child >> driving the Aterra, >> first people to ever drive it. Did you think this was ever going to be a real thing? Did you? >> No. That's a sentence that I did not expect to ever say out loud. >> Rich and I went on a trip to Portugal where we're like sitting around a table with people who not only worked for various magazines like writing articles and stuff about cars, but people who like built magazines. And so like if I with all of my, you know, like BBL jokes about YouTube videos be like, "I'm an automotive journalist." They're going to be like, "You're full of I don't think by every single definition I am an automotive journalist." But I mean, I feel like I utilize a lot of journalistic tools to accomplish my job. But to those who say I'm the cool guy of the studio, uh I I accept that. I I accept that and I will try to uh maintain that that label. >> Two final questions. >> Mhm. >> You have to pick three words to describe 2025. What are they? >> I would describe this year with the three words. There's a lot of change. um especially with the auto industry specifically and how the politics of the world have had a really big impact on prices of cars. But I mean it's had a direct impact on plans that we set in place like last year in 2024 going up into the air and it's going to be like >> the final destination. >> Have you seen these Chinese electric cars? If they ever came to the US, they would cook everything that we have here. They are too good. They have too much tech and they are too cheap to not dominate everything. >> The Air is the story of the year. >> No, the like the the MVP phone is the story phone of the year. So, we got a lot of smartphones in test a lot of phones. At the end of the year, it feels right to just reward the best ones. Summarize the most interesting, the best, the worst, most improved. >> Good. Sweet. >> Sweet. >> Looks good to me. I like it. >> So, I've been a Busy B. This is OnePlus 15 intro and then um in the next couple weeks we'll be working on smartphone awards. >> Just got our proofs. Woo! Smartphone awards. I think that this year we tightened up our production in a really big way. All of the channels grew a ton. Smarter, better, faster, stronger. Uh this year >> all these lines to camera. >> Yes. But you can just leave with welcome to holiday gift guide and then we can kind of go line by. >> Look at that coordination. >> Okay. >> People started saying y this year in the life. Everyone would be like oh y this y that. Oh can you get the y cam. That was cool. It feels good that like we made something that like became a part of the the company for a year. >> Chaos but fun. >> You're doing >> I'm not in love with it either. But I love it. Hate it. I want to make this cut work. I really don't >> I think there's a way to make it happen. I think we just have to find the bridge between the two. >> It comes in waves. The chaos comes in waves. And just when you think it's not going to be chaotic, it always is. >> New Jersey exhilarating. Hello. >> My tech one is AI is exhausting. That's like a a sentence in three words. I think my personal MKBHD one is weird reset happy. >> Well, this route is >> pay more attention. More often than not, my job is to get out of the way, which means that I have to pay so much attention to what everyone else is doing at this company because the jobs are not quite what I'm used to. I know really well how to work with a director of photography, a gaffer, a key grip here. Their relationships matter in a way that they never could if you weren't freelance. >> But there you have it. It's the smartphone awards 2025. Let me hear in the comments section. Let me hear what you would have picked for which category, which ones you disagree with, which ones you do agree with. >> Three words. >> Sixers are up. Andre Drummond threes. >> This is pretty insane. Like we've clearly made a lot of progress in the last 75 years. I don't need to tell you that. But this already puts it. >> You have to add so many sounds to this video, >> bro. I'm going to be fine. Would you say that this is the best video you've ever done or do you think it it could shape up to be the best video you've ever done? >> Even if it's not the best video we've ever done, it may be the most interesting and the most impactful. This is a big swing. It's different. >> Yeah. >> Three words to describe 2025 is work hard, play hard, cheating because I use hard twice. So that it's three words. >> Okay. from the uh hands-on to now. How long has it been? >> It's been seven hours. >> And you have written, edited, shot, and now about to publish. >> Don't forget rendered and uploaded. I mean, the year started off back to basics for sure. And then it it was sort of building after that. >> This video is going to take forever. >> Joel bead knees. Okay. Three words. Ellis got stuff. So, we just had our like end of the year meetings where we talk about with Marquez like what went well this year, what didn't go well this year. And most of the time those meetings are me going to Marquez and Andrew and being like, I need this. I need this. I need this to do my job even harder, better, faster, stronger. And then Marquez and Andrew kind of gave me all my stuff this year. So, this year I went into the meeting and I was just sort of like, "Thanks, guys." So you could picture me standing in the room in front of you and the gadgets we use and know every day fit into the palm of our hands. But what about a hundred times smaller? When you upload a video and you look back at the year, you typically have like two or three, maybe four bangers. And my metric for that is people in real life coming up to me and saying, "I watched that video." The Epic Spaceman video is already one of those bangers. I had no idea how long this would or could take. I had truly no clue. Working with a creator who uploads once every 3, four months, you get a sense of how much that one video means to that person. It's also my favorite thing about watching videos is when I watch something and I can tell that it took a lot of effort and took a really long time. I love that. Marquez has a briefing, but all of the rooms are filled. So, >> one day we'll have our own studio with extra rooms. >> That'll be great. >> Enjoy your casket meeting. >> Thank you. >> What are the three words to describe 2026? >> Brand new studio. That's such a big I don't I don't want to What I've been doing with the new studio is
