Today I'm at Whole Foods in Honolulu, Hawaii. A grocery store that is famous all across the states for selling you clean, whole, healthy foods. But are the foods really all clean and healthy? No, they are not. A lot of these foods are packaged to be healthy for you, but they're actually not. So, I'm going to show you exactly which ones to stop buying. I'm going to bring on my friend Max German to break these foods down with me. Let's go. One of my favorite foods is butter. And I actually made an entire video on butter, but let me just give you guys my best tips. Always go for butter that has clean ingredients. For example, cream and salt. Here is a perfect example of a butter brand that you should stop buying because if I flip over the ingredients and show you guys, you will see that there are natural flavorings in this butter. That is not real butter. Do not go for butter that has skimmed milk. This one has skimmed milk now. So, I would not buy the unsalted cereal. So, Matt is holding an egg option that most people buy, but it's actually not healthy for you. This is probably the best option you guys can get. >> The problem with eggs like these is the diet that they're fed. Chickens are what is referred to as a monogastric animal, which means they have a very simple digestive system. As a result of this, what they eat essentially ends up not only in their flesh, but also in their egg. And when we analyze the fatty acid profile of eggs from chicken fed these lowquality grains, we see it as much higher amounts of the inflammatory omega6 fatty acids. Meanwhile, if you guys can get pasture-raised eggs like this, or even better yet, soyf free and cornfree, this is probably going to be the cleanest, lowest inflammatory egg that you can buy. And a pro tip is if you have issues with eggs, cut out the egg whites and only eat the egg yolks. Next up, we're in the protein bar section and we have the Cliff white chocolate macadamia nut flavored Cliff Bar. Now, my biggest concern with these uh well, honestly, to tell you the truth, there's a lot of ingredients that are a big problem here, but in particular, I really dislike that there is soy protein isolate in here. The problem with soy is that it's very high in compounds called phytoestrogens. These have been shown to seriously mess with hormones, which can then lead to issues with your mood. If you want to know just how much these compounds can affect your hormones, all you have to do is read this article. Now, you guys can call me a conspiracy theorist, but look at this. I think this is on purpose. The ingredients, they're hidden. fold it. >> You'd have to unfold it to see all the utter garbage that is in there. >> Exactly. >> Instead, you're much better off going with an animal-based bar like this. This one here is the Epic Beef Bar. It is almost entirely beef. There are a few additives, but you're much better off as a whole with something like this than with something like all of this. >> I have a question for you, Max. Do you eat protein bars yourself? >> Not typically. I usually just eat steak and eggs. You can't really beat that. But if I'm out and about somewhere on occasion, I will get something like this >> for sure. We really want to focus on meat now. And Max and I both agree that when it comes to beef, you don't have to do grass-fed, grass-finished. Just make sure it's grass-fed. And why is that? Cows are what is known as ruminant animals, which is very different to chicken, like we talked about earlier, which are monogastric animals. Ruminant animals have a very complex digestive system. They actually have four different chambers. So, they're very effective at breaking down whatever they're fed. As a result, even the lowest quality beef fed the lowest quality grains still ends up being a very good meat. And then when it comes to pork and chicken, that's where I really recommend that you only buy pasture-raised. >> Yeah, beef you can be a lot more lenient with, so you don't have to be too fussy when it comes to beef. But like Bella said, when it comes to chicken or pork, I would definitely opt for pasturized. When it comes to meat, the only thing you need to be careful of is the marinade meats. Many of these contain many additives, and in both of these, there is soy. At this point, you may as well be having the Cliff Bars with 25 different ingredients. And also, side note, tell me this doesn't look like rotting meat. Even worse than this is the Beyond Meat. Look at the ingredients in here. It's pea protein, seed oils, and preservatives. This is the type of food that would cause a society to collapse. If we all ate this, society would fall faster than the sheer price of the company that makes this has in the last few years. So, I was really excited to show you guys their rotisserie chicken at Whole Foods because it honestly is one of the best meal options ever. So much better than Costco's rotisserie chicken. The popular rotisserie chickens have so much junk, it is insane. But if you were to look at Whole Foods rotisserie chicken, and by the way, they have sales every Tuesday, $2 off, which is amazing. Um, it's sold out. That's how good it is. Their ingredients are very clean. It's just chicken, salt, spices. If it's spiced, if it's just plain, it's just salt and chicken. The best. >> Next up, we're in the protein powder section. And truthfully, I don't like any of these. You see, all these protein powders are made from whey. The problem with whey is it is the disregarded part of dairy. Dairy is put through a process called pasteurization which is where they heat it to high temperatures in order to keep it shelf stable for longer. The problem with this is that when dairy is heated to these high temperatures, it actually denatures the proteins which changes the structure of them. As a result, our bodies now see these proteins as a foreign threat which triggers an inflammatory response. Instead of getting your protein from whey protein like this, you are way better getting it off from an animal-based source such as any kind of meat or even eggs. >> Let's talk about yogurt. Yogurt is just better for you than milk because it's fermented. So there's less carbs, lower sugar. So if you're a carnivore, I want you to choose kafir, yogurt, cheese, butter as opposed to milk and heavy cream. Now this is a fantastic yogurt if you are very sensitive to dairy because it's from the sheep. It's more gentle. It's less inflammatory. Another great yogurt that I love is CG's. This is from Bellweather Farms. These two are fantastic. And of course, Alexander Farms right here is also a fantastic, very popular yogurt brand. Always choose whole milk as opposed to lowfat. Let's talk chips. So, I'm in the chip aisle. Chips are one of the most loved foods and snacks in America. But what's so deceiving is that most chips have seed oils, sugar, terrible ingredients, additives, preservatives, you name it. Look at this one. It's called wild protein chips. Sounds promising, right? And then you look at the ingredients. only chicken breast, egg whites, and chicken bone broth. That sounds amazing. But guys, always check the ingredients list. So, if I flip this over, let me read this to you. Antibiotic-free chicken. Sure. And then the second ingredient is native tapioca starch. That is not good. Then we have high oleic expeller pressed sunflower oil, egg whites, chicken bone broth, more tapioca syrup solids, and seasonings and salt. This right here is probably the best clean carnivore chip. Or not just carnivore, but friendly for any diet, okay? Except if you're vegan, I highly recommend you reconsider your diet. But for this pork rind chips, it's literally just pork skin, sea salt, pork fat, three ingredients. This is what we want to see more of on our chip packaging. Final food that I want to cover in this chips aisle is tortilla chips. Just because tortillas are so popular in America. We love eating it with dip during football season. This is one of the most popular foods. But if you turn it around and look at what oil tortilla chips are fried in, it is always or almost always going to be cooked in sunflower oil, safflower oil. Unfortunately, I cannot find a single tortilla chip that is not cooked in sunflower oil. But I do have an alternative for you guys. You can't find it at Whole Foods, but it is literally the cleanest tortilla chip. Let me show you. This right here is the option that I'm talking about. These are called mossa chips and they are blowing up online because they are seed oil free. Now I really want to emphasize that I found these chips for my husband. I am a seven-year carnivore now. I do not need carbs. My taste buds have evolved and I don't crave for these things anymore. So chips like these are just perfect for people like my husband who do not need to be strict carnivore yet still want to enjoy tortilla chips that are clean and healthy. These tortilla chips are made from non-GMO organic corn, absolutely zero seed oils. It's actually made with beef tallow and a sprinkle of salt. They also have different flavors. This is the original. We have a blue tortilla chip flavor here. This right here is their lime flavor. And my husband's favorite flavor of all is the habanero. If you're strict carnivore and you are eating like me to heal or keep conditions and issues at bay, these chips are not for you. Instead, I would recommend that you try out my 100% pure carnivore chips. It only requires two ingredients, egg whites and cheese, and it is so delicious. As a wife who just wants to support my husband when he has guy friendss over or when it's football season, tortilla chips are a huge staple. So, if you're looking for clean seed oil-free options, I highly recommend this brand, Masa. It is just the cleanest out there. Unfortunately, you can't get Masa chips at Whole Foods just yet, but you can order it online at mosachips.com and use my discount code steak for 25% off your first order. I've also linked them down below if you want to check them out. Now, we are at the hot sauces, condiments, and dressing. So, whether or not you're carnivore, keto, vegan, or any of the above, whatever diet you are on, I want you guys to avoid three major ingredients. Let's just try to avoid sugar in all condiments, dressings, and sauces, MSG, additives, preservatives. So, let's just choose any sauce here. Let's take a look at this steak sauce. I'm going to read the ingredients. Wow, this ingredients is never ending. So, we have tomato puree, vinegar, we have so many spices. Condiments and sauces do not need to be this long when we look at the ingredients list. Instead, for all sauces, I want you to just focus on the shortest ingredients list you can find. So, a really great brand is this Primal Kitchen down here. They have so many different flavorings, and they're very keto and paleo friendly. They usually don't put any syrups, seed oils, or sugars. [music] And of course, any hot sauce like Cholula is really good. It's just such minimal ingredients. It gives you the heat and the spice and it's good enough. As an Asian, I know how important sauces and seasonings are. So, here's an Asian hack, especially someone coming from a carnivore diet who's very self-conscious about ingredients. This is the Red Boat fish sauce. This is such a great hack if you want umami flavor. This is so clean. >> Next up, we have the superfood bars. And why why are they called superfood bars? Well, it says it right here on the front. Eight superfood veggies. They're organic. They're non-GMO, gluten-free with eight superfood veggies. But again, with these, the ingredients are absolutely terrible. We're at Whole Foods, but I mean, that to me does not look like a whole food. >> Now, we are at the bread section, one of America's most loved foods. But guess what? None of these breads are good for you. Instead, I recommend you make my carnivore bread, which I will link down below. Let's cover cooking oils, which is where I am at now. Look how many oils they let you choose. But really, I'm just going to boil down to the best ones, and it's just a few. We have beef tallow here. Best cooking oil you could possibly use, and it is so much better than oils like grape seed oil. A super popular oil these days is olive oil. No, olive oil is not rancid. Not good. I also love this one. It's called ghee. It is basically clarified butter. So, Ghee is just a less inflammatory version of butter because all of the lactose is removed from butter. So, this is also a really good cooking oil because it has high smoke point. >> Next up, we're in the canned fish section. Now, when it comes to canned fish, the first thing you want to watch out for is added ingredients. Many of these canned fish have lots of filler ingredients that you don't need to pay for. Another thing is it's better to buy smaller fish. Larger fish like tuna live for a very long time. In the ocean nowadays, there is large amounts of a toxic heavy metal called mercury, which has been shown to cause a number of issues. The larger and longer living the fish, the longer it has to build up mercury. Instead, you're much better off to get something like these sardines right here. The ingredients are [music] 100% sardines and they're a smaller fish, which means they don't have that same high level of mercury. It's also very important to make sure that the can says in water, not in oil. We are now at the coffee aisle, one of my favorite beverages, but there are so many bad coffees these days that are filled with mold and glyphosate and just terrible ingredients. A lot of these coffee brands aren't even coffee. Okay, so let me just show you some really bad coffees. Okay, so here's an example. This coffee is promoted and packaged to sell you mental clarity and energy. And they mix it with lion's [music] mane and mushroom and yakon. I don't even know what yakon is. So comment down below if you would drink this. Instead, I recommend a brand called Lineage. There's no glyphosates or mold, and it also tastes really good. We're now in the tea section, and I just want to share a really golden nugget piece of information that I learned from Dr. Brite. She is all about avoiding stimulants and tea has stimulants in them. So if you love tea, I recommend herbal and flour teas as opposed to caffeinated teas like green tea and black tea. I would say this is probably the best tea that you can get your hands on. It's called the night. It's organic and it's chamomile and passion flour. We are in the seafood aisle. But one of my favorite foods to eat on a carnivore diet is seafood. But you need to make sure that it is not farm fished, farm raised, always wild caught. So take a look at this. So if you look at the labeling, you always want to make sure that it says wild caught. >> This is for the same reason as you want to be careful which kind of eggs you're buying. Fish are also monogastric animals. So the simpler digestive system does not allow them to effectively filter out what they eat. >> Always make sure especially shrimp you want wild caught. So, I'm actually very impressed to see. Maybe it's cuz it's Honolulu, but everything here is wild caught. So, that's fantastic. I would definitely avoid all of these. They say coconut shrimp ready in minutes. I don't think this is wild caught. Let's check. Look at all the additives there. So, we just want pure wild caught shrimp, not this with all the garbage. And by the way, I have been seeing more and more of these videos on social media going viral. People are noticing their meats look off, goopy, and straight up fake. And we now have to relentlessly check our ingredients list on everything we buy, especially for this tiny contains bioengineered ingredients label usually hidden at the bottom. What are your thoughts on all this? And listen, this doesn't just apply to our food. Companies now are tweaking formulas in our deodorants, our shampoos, our detergents, whatever they can cut costs on because they know most people never check. I mean, I've seen it in my own home. One day, my husband's deodorant worked fine. The next his skin started to get irritated, red, and itchy. And only then did we realize the formula had changed right under our noses. Synthetic fragrances, parabens, preservatives, emulsifiers, even heavily processed plant oils can cause irritation and inflammation in our skin. This soap called beast mode soap is now a staple in my home because instead of hiding a laundry list of fillers behind a deceptive QR code, Beast Mode Soap keeps it extremely transparent, simple, and animal-based. Their soaps are handcrafted using a cold processed method made with only two or three real ingredients from grass-fed animals. And they come in four beautiful scents. They don't split, they don't crack, and they last for an entire month. Here's what the soap box collection looks like. My personal favorite is the lemon leaf just because I love that citrusy refreshing scent when I use soaps. But if you are extremely sensitive, they also have unscented, so absolutely no scents, no smells. And for the gentlemen, I'm sure you guys are going to love the paleopine scent. All the soaps I've tried smells insanely fresh and clean. And it's the only soap I have tried that does not dry out my skin. Especially when I'm washing my hands, cooking in the kitchen all the time. I do not need a soap that dries out my skin even more. So, if you want to try out Beast Mode Soap for yourself, head over to beastmodes soap.com and use my discount code SBGA for 10% off your order. I want you guys to get healthy. I want it to be easy as well, and I want us to be on the path to health, longevity, and happiness together. So, thank you so much for your support and I hope to see you in my next video.
