Spring training in the World Baseball Classic are here with MLB opening day right around the corner. And this week's top five reflects that baseball heat. Plus, a French basketballer has also snuck his way into our list. And it might not be the one you think. I'm breaking it all down to you today in this week's top five cards. Hey everyone, welcome back to the Arena Club studio here inside Cards HQ. My name is Tyler Nethercott, better known as Teapot. filling in for Jeff this week while he is out. And this week's list, well, it's going to be baseball heavy, but it's that time of year. So, stick around to see who's hot. And as always, today's top five is sponsored by WhatNot. Whatnot has awesome live auctions every day and night starting at just $1 for packs, boxes, breaks, singles, and more. It's a lot of fun, and if you scan the QR code on your screen, or use the special link in our show description below, you'll get $15 in free credit when you sign up for whatnot. Now, let's take a look at the overall sports card market with market pulse by market movers. Over the last 7 days, the SEI 500 index of 500 of the most prominent sports cards is up 0.3%. Over the last 30 days, the SEI 500 is up 2.7%. And since January 1st, the start of this year, it is up 8.2%. The best performing category of cards over the last 30 days is Formula 1 from 1966 up to 2021, which is up 22.6%. And the worst performing category is hockey from 1960 to 1979, which is down 9.9%. As a reminder, the cards you'll see in today's show have gone up in price recently, but are not necessarily good investments right now. Always do your research to decide which cards you think will go up in value next. All right, starting out as we always do with our cold card, and this week it is Jackson Smith and Jacob, the wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks. JSN played a key role in Seattle's Super Bowl championship run, emerging as one of the most reliable targets in the Seahawks passing attack really all season long with precise route running and strong hands. He helped move the chains throughout the postseason, including several clutch receptions and high leverage moments. JSN suffered an injury during the Super Bowl that limited his involvement late in the game, forcing Seattle to adjust its passing game and ultimately moving to Kenneth Walker for that Super Bowl MVP. Now, really, we could have put a number of Super Bowl athletes onto this list. If you were to plot Sam Darnold or several others on here, they're pretty much all following the same trend. And we see this, we actually see this over time. It's very consistent that that post Super Bowl hype let down and the cards start to trickle downwards. We track a number of different cards for JSN, as well as many other athletes, and overall, he's only down 2.1% over the last 30 days, but a number of his cards and the ones that are kind of more leading indicators are down significantly more than that. So, we're taking a look at three kind of again hot sort of leading indicator type cards for JSN. And over the last 30 days, we've got his downris downtown and PSA 10 from his rookie year 2023 pop 278. Obviously, very popular cards, the downtowns. Whoops. And this one is actually down 13% over the last 30 days. Then we've got his horizontal kaboom in raw condition. This one's trending down pretty hard, down 31.1% over the last 30 days. So, this was at 900 bucks, actually peaked out at 950. now all the way down to $620 over that last 30-day time frame. And then we've got his Prism rookie autograph silver in raw condition. That one is down to $100 most recently. Pretty sharp ledge there from 165 as the last sale. That card's down a whopping 57.9%. Again, several other players from the late playoff runs, especially those Super Bowl performances and appearances now down. Do you believe in JSN long term and in the offseason? Are you going to pick up his cards? Let us know down in the comments below. All right, we're moving on to our investment card of the week. These are the more historically safe, if I can use that term, vintage type cards, more established all-time greats. And this week, it is Eddie Murray, and it's his 1978 Topps rookie card. He was the first baseman, first and mostly remembered with the Baltimore Orioles from 1977 to 1988. He had a later stint with them in 1996. He also played for the Dodgers, the Mets, the Indians. He had kind of a a journeyman stint also for the Angels in 1997 toward the end of his career. And uh Murray is most known for his time again with the Orioles who he helped win a World Series in 1983. He was one of the most consistent and productive hitters of his era. Known for his power and his switch hitting ability over a 21-year career, he recorded 3,255 hits and 504 home runs, becoming one of only seven players in MLB history to surpass both those 3,000 hits and 500 home run milestones. Murray was an eight-time all-star and again a World Series champion. He holds the record for the most games played at first base and is one of only three players to hit a home run in three different decades. His durability, steady production, and ability to deliver in clutch moments earned him a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame. And some people compare him to Robert Parish in the time, duration, and consistency of his career. Though Murray certainly ranks higher on the all-time list in the MLB than Parish does today for the NBA. So, let's take a look at this. 1978 tops. Many of you, I'm sure, have seen this cart before. It's got that pure '7s vibe, you know, back in the vintage uh vintage era. And in PSA 10 condition, just Pop 18. So, we know very tough to gem cards from back in those days. And because of that, this card's obviously commanding a really big premium. We've got the last two sales here over the last 30 days, most recently on March 2nd for $48,800. Prior to that, $47,600. So, I'm comparing all of these, and if I just uncheck this one, then you start to see there's, you know, a difference. You can get a PSA 9 for a little under $1,300. Most recently, you got his PSA 88 drops you all the way down to 238 bucks. And a PSA 7 at $60. So, if you're somebody looking to add an Eddie Murray card, maybe you're a big Baltimore Orio fan, maybe you even grew up watching that championship team, you can get in pretty affordably. These, you know, cards aren't hard to come by in different conditions. search for one of those in a strong eye appeal or if you've got the pockets for it, that PSA 10 certainly looks like a good strong long-term investment type card. All right, now we're moving on to our hot cards of the week and at our number five hot card, it is George Clawson, the pitching prospect for the Los Angeles Angels. Now, Clawson has continued to rise as one of the Angels most electric pitching prospects, drawing attention with his overpowering fastball and improving command after striking out more than 150 hitters across multiple minor league levels in 2025. He has carried some momentum into spring training this year. He has an upper 90s velocity and a sharp breaking ball which have generated plenty of swing and misses against big league hitters this spring. Clawson's strong spring showing has strengthened the belief that he could be a factor into the Angels pitching plans later this season. Now, Boston's not a highly touted prospect. The former sixrounder in 2023, he's not in the MLB top 100, and he's currently just the fifth rated prospect as we can see here in the Angels system. But there's been buzz. We see it in his card prices, and we're going to take a look at some of those right now. Here we've got a different smattering of cards, so some a little less uh frequently transacted, and we've of course got his Bowman Chrome Prospect Auto here. That card's up 300%. Uh now granted it only started out at just $12.50 and it's now up to 50 bucks. So if you were stockpiling one of these or maybe you ripped a box of Bowman back in uh last year in 2025, maybe you hit one of these. Maybe this was one of your autos. You're doing all right right now. You know, do you believe in Clawson? Do you sell right now during the hype? That's your decision. I've got his uh Bowman Chrome auto reptilian green refractor to 99. That one's up 41.7% to $85. Then we've got his Chrome Prospect Auto. This is the um of course the the Choice I guess refractor. HDA choice refrator. Now sometimes we used to call these the the Mega Box refractors, the Mojo refractors. This is the choice refrator in a PSA 9 condition. Uh that's Pop Five. So not a ton of these graded. That one's up 60%. And then last but not least, uh we've got just his green grass refractor. So you want the reptilian and the lizard or the green grass or the true refractor or the true auto? It's your choice. All of them trending in that upward direction anywhere from 20 to 300% over the last 30 days. Our number five hot card this week is George Clawson. All right, at number four, we're keeping it going with baseball prospects and it is Charlie Condan, the outfielder and number two prospect for the Colorado Rockies. So, number two overall in their system. I believe he's down at like number 70 on the overall list. Charlie Condan has been one of the most talked about young hitters in spring training, drawing attention with his power and advanced approach at the plate. He's batting .467 with a 1.623 OPS in 15 at bats. I can look at some of his spring training stats here. Basically, he's just taking the lid off the ball. He's got three home runs. He's killing it. He's got good bat speed and strength that have made him one of the most feared young hitters in the minor leagues and in in and previously in college baseball. Conan's strong start in spring has reinforced the belief that his uh middle of the order power could help accelerate his path toward the major leagues. All of his cards as tracked by market movers are up 12.4% collectively over the last 30 days on 79 different cards totaling 176 different sales. Here we've got a few of these. Of course, we're talking prospects. We're always going to be looking at these Bowman first and foremost. This is his PSA 10 auto. Just the Bowman first auto 2025 Bowman. in his Chrome Prospect Auto Pop 63 right now. Uh I expect that will certainly climb over time as more of these get graded, but that's up 123% on that most recent sale. So he just spiked 225 for 215 bucks all the way up to $450. This is the nature of the minor leagues and the prospect system, especially when people get very excited about a player. Here's his refractor. So these are always numbered serial numbered to $4.99 year in and year out. And uh this is in raw condition. This one a little bit more wavy, was at 154 bucks, up to 200, then a sale down to 160, and now back up to 206 bucks. So, technically up 34.1% over the last 30 days. And then his raw chrome Prospect Auto, you can see the trend line in general coming up. That one's at $110 most recently. He did have a sale at $90, but then it sort of dipped down into the 60s and 70s. So, that one also trending up. Our number four hot card this week, Charlie Condan of the Colorado Rockies. All right, at number three this week it is the Frenchman and maybe not the one you thought it is Maxim Reno. Shout out to all my French homies. Second round 42nd pick overall yet here he is at third overall on this list. Typically we're not talking about breakouts from second rounders especially in the NBA. But here we are with this 7 foot1 center out of France for the Kings. Uh, Reo has already done more than Marvin Baggley ever did for the Kings. Sorry, it's just true. He's playing pretty well. For this season, he's averaged what you might say is a modest 11 points and seven rebounds per game, but recently he's had multiple double doubles with more than 20 points and 10 rebounds. I've got his game log from ESPN pulled up here. Look, you got a 22 and six game, 11 and 8, 10 and 13, 16 and 12, 17 and 14, 21 and 19 against the Pelicans. So, he's starting to put up some big performances. Here we go. Scroll up. 22 and 10 most recently. Before that, 16 and 13. So, he's giving them productivity. You got to love that. The Kings fans can't exactly be thrilled about this season overall, but they should be happy with Reno's performance and uh probably very excited about getting what should be a top tier draft pick in a loaded draft this upcoming year. Oliver Node's uh cards as tracked by market movers are up 19.3% collectively over the last 30 days on 82 different cards totaling 759 sales. So we're going to look at three of his different Topps chrome. It's the Tops Chrome era now. We're moved on past the uh the Panini Prisms and Optics and those things. So I've got his Gold Wave here and just two sales in the last 30 days of this car. These are serial numbered to 50, but we did see a big big price increase overall from a percentage uh uh perspective from 25 bucks back on February 10 all the way up to $89. Don't forget the 9. Up $256% in the last 30 days. Another big spike here. We had a sale for six bucks now up to $31 on his blue wave refrator to 150. And then we've got his green refrator to 99 uh in raw condition. And this one was down at $5.50 and we've had a couple recent sales at $25 a piece. So that card is up 355%. So, you know, I've done a lot of videos in the past on the Market Movers channel talking about kind of how NBA players prospect out or or you know, how where their draft profiles project into the future. And it's it's really not super often. Yes, it happens. They'll come at me in the comments. It does happen, but it's not super common to get players from the second round who break out, especially in their rookie years. Sometimes they blossom a little later. So, I don't know. Oh, what do you think of Reno? Do you do you like him? Do you like his prospects with the Kings? Uh, big men because of Wemi maybe and Joic and others, Giannis are starting to get a little more attention. He could have a future. I think he's going to be a solid player, but you let me know down below what you think of his cards. All right, moving on to number two now. We've got Jack Kagleon, the right fielder for the Kansas City Royals. Kagleion has generated renewed excitement this spring, showing flashes of elite power that made him one of baseball's most talked about young hitters last spring. After dealing with injuries and inconsistent production during the 2025 season, he has looked healthier in spring training with several hard hit balls and early home runs that have reminded scouts of his massive raw power. Kaggleon's strong start in camp has revived optimism that he can bounce back this season and reestablish himself as one of the premier power prospects in the game. Last year, he was on a fast track. He shot all the way up through the miners and got the call up into the season. He was very hyped, very hot. It's been really interesting because up until recently, I hadn't been hearing his name mentioned too much. Sometimes you keep your ear to the ground and see and you're watching the market movers charts and we hadn't seen very much. But yet here we are in spring training. So last year his stats 210 at bats in the regular season. Just a 157 average, 237 on base, ops 532. It wasn't the start that Jack wanted, I'm sure, uh or the Royals or his fans, but he's looking sharp so far. He's got uh you know he's 6 for 15. He's got six runs. He's got a home run, four RBI's, a 400 average, 1.283 OPS. It's spring training. It's a limited sample size, but like we said, the power is there and it's undeniable. And you know what? He came in here, he's a great guy. I'm rooting for him even if he's in the same division as my Tigers. And um I think we could look at also and point back to I pulled up his stats from when he was at Florida. He had a 288 average, then a 323 average, then a 419 average when he was 21 years old with a massive 1.419 OPS, which led to him being that top draft pick. All of his cards as tracked by Market Movers are up 7% collectively over the last 30 days. Uh that's on 136 different cards totaling 582 sales. So we'll take a look at some of those. I'm going to switch my chart from the dollars to the percentage so we can kind of see apples to apples growth here. And I'm starting out with his Bowman first refractor to $499 in PSA 9 condition. That one's up 12.9%. So he went from 465, had a little dip, and now most recently up to $525. His raw Bowman Chrome Prospect Auto First is up $23. Uh you guys, many of you have seen this, I'm sure, over time. He's been on our top five before. That's at $38 right now. And then this is his uh Bowman Chrome Prospect Auto Non-First. So, sometimes this gets really tricky and it is really confusing. If you go back, this was out of Bowman Draft 2024. And then he's got what I call typically these tweener cards. I call him a tweener between his first prospect card and then his official rookie card. Last but not least, we've got his uh Bowman draft out of 2024. First, just refractor non-auto. That one's up 55.6%. So, Kags has got the power. If he can make the the contact, square up really well, you know, develop that eye to see those uh big league pitches, I think he's going to be a force and somebody that I'll probably dread having to face watching with my Tigers in that AL Central division. Our number two hot card this week, Jack Kagleon. All right, that brings us to our number one hot card this week. It won't be a surprise, but first, as always, this data is powered by Market Movers. You can go to marketmooverapp.com and sign up to get a 7-day trial. You can download it from the app store. It's actually free to use on the mobile version. Go try it out for 7 days completely free. And now let's talk about our number one hot card this week. He is no stranger to the hot list at number one, maybe our most uh viewed or most established number one of all time since we've been doing this show and that is Shi Otani. Obviously the dual threat pitcher DH do it all wonder for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Shi continues to dominate the spotlight as the upcoming season approaches, carrying the momentum from another MVP caliber run with the Dodgers. And Otani is expected to be a central figure for team Japan in this now currently happening World Baseball Classic, where he will again take the global stage and look to lead his country to another championship. And of course, we had that very iconic moment from the last World Baseball Classic in 2023 where it was Otani versus his then teammate Mike Trout. for all the money, for all the marbles. And of course, he struck out Trout with that iconic roar. It made the Tops Now card. It went crazy. United States felt that heartbreak. And who knows, we might wind up with Japan versus the United States in the final this year. Again, you've got the Dominican Republic. You got Venezuela. There's there's some good teams and there may be some underdogs. But in the spirit of looking at team Japan, and not necessarily the now juggernaut Dodgers, his Japanese cards from 2013, the BBM 2013 cards have been going absolutely nuclear. So, I'm looking at the last 60 days in this case, a little bit of an extended horizon. This card, which is his number 183 in PSA 10 condition, 412 of these, uh, at $31,400. You could have bought this card 60 days ago for $9,500. That is a 230% increase on that card. We've got his batting number 42. This one's up 223% from $2,000 to 6,650 bucks. You've got a pitching version number 42. That one did have an interesting dip right there. Uh that one actually up now to $5,450, up 334%. You've got his uh BBM second version 554 pop 160 in PSA 10 condition up to 5,150 bucks. That started out at $899 60 days ago. And then lastly, here's his uh BBM Nepon Ham Fighters 10th season with Hkaido number two. 133 of these in PSA 10 condition right now. That's at 410, 2300, and 2476. So what I can tell you about these cards, they have been highly and uh heavily hotly debated amongst baseball card enthusiasts within show Otani forums, uh Discord servers, and other places, Facebook groups. Very polarizing. Some people are viewing these as the cards that everybody's been sleeping on all along, which is I think why this sudden buzz has been generated. Others are saying, "No, why should we care about these cards? They're they're not from when he's played in the MLB. They're from his time in Japan. Yes, Ichiro had cards, but everybody focuses on Ichro's tops, you know, licensed cards more way more than they do any any other cards that, you know, predated those. I think you can see the argument from both sides. The comparison that I've made in the past is to the Michael Jordan Star Jordan from 1984 or the 1986 Fleer. and one has carried that historic iconic torch and one has come sort of out of the woodwork and into the limelight over recent years with people saying, "Well, that's his true rookie card being the star." So, I want to know what you think. I will say a word of caution. I don't know if there's any truth to this. There's been a lot of people saying that these cards are not short printed whatsoever. That there are a ton of them in Japan right now starting to surface and come out because of this price spike, including many that are being uh submitted to PSA Japan. So, keep your eye on that. Be careful. Um, I don't know. I'm not saying I I know where these cards are going. In either way, we give you the data, you make the decisions, and you sound off with your opinions on these cards down below. Do you like them? Do you think they're a strong investment or would you pivot to something else for show? Hey, see a good buy, sell, or hold right now. Let us know what you think. And as always, thanks so much for watching this. Make sure to go check out whatnot. Use that code in the show description down below. And until next time, happy investing, keep on collecting, and make sure to have fun.
