Analysis Summary
Moral framing
Presenting a complex issue with genuine tradeoffs as a simple choice between right and wrong. Once something is framed as a moral issue, compromise feels like complicity and disagreement feels immoral rather than reasonable.

Will you investigate her? Do you plan on investigating? We're talking about over $200 million, the whole blanket thing. Do you think there should be an investigation launched into Christine? >> I do. And now that I have more of this information, uh, you know, I think that we need to go back to a potential potential subpoena for her through the oversight committee. There was one failed on I guess a day or two ago, but I didn't have all the information. I would have, now that I know what I know now, I would have voted to subpoena her uh to get at that. I don't think she walks away from this and she shouldn't because as Republicans we need to hold our own accountable. >> Damn. Wow. That is a several shibs in the back of Christine Gnome on her way out. So, could Republicans actually hold Christine accountable for all the things that she did at DHS? That would be a shocking turn of events, but we might be headed there. Let's find out why. Jordan, tell us. Well, as you saw in the cold open, Republican Representative Nancy Mace is threatening to investigate former DHS Secretary Christy Gnome. That's because Gnome allegedly spent over $200 million on an ad campaign without the president's permission. The firm that ran the ad shoot is called Strategy Group. It has deep ties to Gnome's political apparatus. Per ProPublica strategy group played a central role in Gnome's 2022 South Dakota gubanatorial campaign. Corey Luwendowski, her top advisor at DHS, has worked extensively with the firm and the company's CEO is married to Gnome's chief spokesperson at DHS, Trisha McLaclin. DHS invoked the national emergency at the border as it awarded contracts for the campaign, bypassing the normal competitive bidding process designed to prevent waste and corruption. Furthermore, DHS seemingly tried to keep strategy groups involvement a secret. Gnome was questioned about the campaign earlier this week. Here's what happened when she faced off against Republican Senator John Kennedy. And you're saying that you're testifying that President Trump approved this ahead of time. Is that my understanding? >> Uh we had conversations about making sure that we were telling people >> No, ma'am. I'm asking you uh sorry to interrupt, but the president approved ahead of time you spending $220 million running TV ads across the country in which you are featured prominently. >> Yes, sir. We went through the legal processes. Did it correct the president with OM? >> Yes, >> he did. >> Mhm. Yes. >> Okay. Um, >> and one thing, Senator, I think would be helpful to know is how effective that communications has been. That >> effective in your name recognition. I mean, to me, it puts the president in a terribly awkward spot >> and it it it and I just I'm not saying you're not telling the truth. It's just hard for me to believe. And according to Kennedy, she wasn't telling the truth. He posted this or according to this reporter, Kennedy on the Gnome TV ads, after the hearing, the president thei of the United States called me, and I'm not going to speak for him. You folks know him. You can ask him yourselves. So, put it this way, his recollection and her recollection are different. Later, Trump himself stated, "I wasn't thrilled with it. I spent less money than that to become president. I didn't know about it." Now, Gnome was fired not long after the hearing, but yesterday, the Daily Caller published Gnome's side of the story. An anonymous administration official told the caller that the White House was aware of Gnome's ad contract and said senior White House officials were even involved in getting the funds approved. That second administration official said Rubio and Hegathth respect Gnome, a key reason she was reassigned rather than fully ousted. So, who's telling the truth and who's lying to the American people? Keith, who what do you think? >> I mean, this is a this is an administration of liars, so I don't I don't know. I don't frankly care, but uh let them fight. Let them fight. And I I just want to say to Can we just Can we just acknowledge Alex Prey, Renee? Good. That was fine. It's ads and ad spend is what Christy Gnome gets fired for. That's crazy. It's crazy to me. It's crazy time. Yeah, but here's how it makes sense because they don't care about the average American at all. Right? So the only thing Donald Trump cares about is Donald Trump. So I guarantee you that he thought and you could sense it in that line that that Jordan read you. That should have been spent on me. That should have been $220 million on me riding a horse in front of Mount Rushmore. >> She should have spent it on herself. Mr. President, she also killed Americans in the way that she couldn't Yeah. Yeah. Shut up. Okay, back to that. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT ME. OKAY, so guaranteed. Guaranteed. By the way, to the point of who's telling the truth, is it possible that Gnome did get permission from the White House and either someone else or Trump did give that permission, but now decided that it doesn't look good. Yeah, of course it's possible. Trump tells people to do stuff all the time that doesn't make any sense. And then once they get in trouble for it, he goes, "Wasn't me and throws them under the bus." So that's certainly But Keith is right. Who cares? They're all like like there's important issues where differences within the Republicans will make a big uh difference or might politically and and policy-wise. For example, a split on war is very relevant. A split on Israel is very relevant, right? A split on Christine Nome's courier is irrelevant. Don't care. Okay. Except for the fact that it's fun that they're shivering her on the way back out, right? And my god, John Kennedy. I mean, that was a that was a political assassination. Okay, that was clean. Boom. Oh, so you decided to spend these ads on yourself and your name recognition. Are you sure the president knew? Cuz I don't think the president would like that. Cuz then even if Trump did know, he can't say he knew because Kennedy just said, "I'm sure the president wouldn't like that because that's bad." So then Trump has to throw it like a hot potato even if he did originally authorize it which I suspect he didn't to be if I had to guess in this irrelevant who's worse scenario right uh but the Trump I know would be like no me those ads about me right so lastly uh so what Jordan told you about the Daily Caller is very important cuz that's a leak from the gnome camp against Trump and the White House. Politically, that is a very bad idea. Okay. What Gnome should do if she cared about her career is, of course, I'm an agent of SHIELD. I will now be the new Venezuelan vice president. Okay? And I'll take over DHS in Venezuela, too. Okay? So, that's what she should do. This trying to fight them. Where are you going to go? You going to be a Democrat? No. Okay. So, there's nowhere else to go. you're not part of like any principled opposition like Marjorie Taylor Green or Tucker Carlson is to the war, your only home is in the land of the corrupt. And so if you start fighting with them, you nah no, we'll never hear Christine again. And to be but to be fair to her, she has to be sitting there at home now thinking, "So this is where we drew the line on fraud, like after Donald Trump released all of the white collar criminals in the country, after he took money into his freaking memecoin, right, and his nonsense cryptocurrency. You draw the line here on fraud." Well, sad day for you. You know why, by the way? Because that wasn't fraud done against you guys. That was in in Trump's mind fraud done against him because he should have been the beneficiary of those ads. >> Yeah. Yeah. Uh Trump media company could have put those ads together. Like he's fine with corruption. I don't I don't think it was about the actual process. It was to Jen's point who benefited. I mean, you look at Don Jr.'s portfolio and all of the federal contracts that he just happens to be the beneficiary of. He just happens to get appointed to new board seats or advisers of companies that just by luck end up with defense department contracts. Wow. What are the odds for all that fuss about Hunter Biden not having the qualifications to be in a role that he was in? Suddenly they don't care. So I think that that's part of it. But there's another more superficial aspect here because to Keith's point, they don't care that DHS agents killed American citizens, multiple American citizens. They don't care that multiple American citizens who had been illegally detained by DHS were in the room staring her down and she couldn't even turn around and acknowledge them and defended the violation of our civil liberty. Something that the Republicans, the conservatives purportedly care about is so sacrosanked that they have to they have to die on the hill of the Constitution. They don't care. That didn't matter. It was this. But I think the superficial angle here is she looked weak. And one thing that Donald Trump hates is people that represent him in committee hearings or in any sort of confirmation hearing looking weak. Think back to Brett Kavanaaugh's hearing when we knew it was going to be about his alleged behavior when he was younger. And the reporting around that in the run-up to it was Trump wants to see him fight. If he doesn't fight, he's out. So what did he do? lost his temper and started screaming about how much he loved beer and that got him on the Supreme Court. It is so unbelievably vapid and superficial with him and Christy Gnome got clocked by John Kennedy and Tom Tillis. That clip wasn't in there, but he hammered her. Yes, she got grilled by Democrats, but that doesn't matter. When she got embarrassed by members of his party, even though he's at odds with Tillis, he's on fairly good terms with Kennedy. That was it. You can't look weak. >> Yeah. And if you're wondering, hey guys, are you sure that it wasn't because of the Americans that were killed? Yeah, they were killed weeks ago and she didn't get fired. So, she survived that pretty easily. But when you uh, you know, take money out of Donald Trump's pocket, you're not going to survive that. That's way more important than American lives to >> I thought I just thought it was interesting. Congress did its job for a second. >> Great point. Wait, you investigated something and then there was a consequence. That was kind of interesting. We should do more of that. >> Yeah, that's why I kid around about fogghorn leg, right? Cuz John Kennedy when he wants to grill someone, he ends them. He ended one of Trump's uh judicial appointments before he was asking him about like, "Hey, would you go to Bozo Law School? Where'd you go?" Right. And I don't remember exactly what he said, but he eviscerated the guy. >> He wasn't a lawyer. >> Yeah. He was a blogger that Trump nominated to be a judge. >> Yeah, he and he made so much fun of him. He's a That's why Kennedy is so hilarious and like politics is funny because that same brilliant guy will then turn around and say the dumbest things on purpose to get more votes. Like he'll pretend he's dumb, right? And be like, "Oh, golly gee, I don't know." Okay. I mean, that's my ass. And >> this was my ass. Told you >> she out. Have some beers. >> Thank you. Yes. >> Every time you ring the bell below, an angel gets his wings. Totally not true, but it does keep you updated on our live shows.
