Worth Noting
Positive elements
- This video provides a clear visual demonstration of how surface cleaning and humidification techniques can physically alter the appearance of card stock and edges.
Be Aware
Cautionary elements
- The video frames 'card care' as a simple value-add without discussing the ethical implications or the risk of a grading company flagging the card as 'altered' or 'cleaned'.

I picked up this card over a year ago with the intentions of cracking it out and seeing if there was room for improvements. I realize now something I missed is you see the label says it's first edition, but it doesn't have the first edition stamp on it. Live and learn, I guess. But let me show you the things that we were able to accomplish with this card. When a card care project goes really well, of course, I like to get it regraded. So, that's what I did here. And we worked on this card together last year on my live show. And uh it turned out so well I got it regraded. So let me give you a refresher of what we did. All you missed you guys was I started this on my Wednesday night show. I do a live show on Instagram every Wednesday night. And what I did was I I like to buy project cards. So this was a six. And the reason I I like buying Pokemons that are like in this grade, I look at the back online and if it's not chipped off paint or missing any paint, I typically say to myself, "All right, let's see what we can find out, you And as you guys can see from the pictures after I took it out of the case, I think a six is accurate. It had multiple marks. You know, it has that mark on on the side of the card, has the mark on the back of the card, that line that goes across. And then as soon as you flip [music] it over and look at the front, that crease went through it. And the materials of this card are like shiny and just more plasticky than the other ones that I've worked on. So, here's the the long story short. I just stuck to my standard card spray on the mats, little mist, little puff of card spray like twice a day for the past 8 days. So, yeah, you know, you've seen the the injuries and I guess they're pretty significant, but sometimes like the more vintage Pokemon like the late late 90s, early 2000 stuff, it moves faster. This took a long time. Now, maybe I could use more card spray and maybe I could have changed stuff up if I did it again, but I took it slow. And let me show you where we landed. And I think it turned out pretty well. And it's just a reminder to take your time. And when you're looking for project cards, don't look as soon as you see permanent stuff, you know, just maybe look for a new project. So, I I couldn't find any missing paint on this one. And this is was was the this was my view when I when I purchased it online, right? So, it looks pretty good from back there. But let's take a look, you guys. The Let's watch the light. The biggest corner. Remember that one right there? Man, that thing took forever, you guys. Forever. But can you see the texture? And it looks good. See the light? I'm happy with that. 7 days. Like I said, eight days. And then when we have this side over here where I had a big indent going down that side, you guys, where I have the circle light and the the diffuser light right there. And I had a little mark on the Pokeball. And I got that out of there, too. Now, let's look at the front. That was the um I had a rough edge and the no the and the hit in the corner. So, right here to right there, we look good all the way across. And it took a while, man. But it looks great. [music] [music] So, I did get it regraded and we're going to see the results here right now. And I sent it to BGS because it's my card and I like subgrades and I wanted to see what they would say. So, let's take a look to see what the good people at BGS had to say about this one. They had to say, "We'll give you a nine." And I'll take it. I agree. Edges, corners, surface were all messed up. And we were able to take our time and get it looking great again. Thanks for watching. Good luck with your projects. I'm Kurt with Kurt's Card Care.

Follow-Up: I picked this up last year because of the low grade, knowing it would be a great project—and it was. I spent a little over a week working on it, and while the process wasn’t difficult, it did require patience. To get the card back to its proper shape, I used light mists of card spray followed by several 24 hour “sit and wait” cycles. While a heat press would likely be faster, this method confirms that patience and the right technique get the job done. Thanks for watching! Kurt 🤘🏼🤘🏼 #kurtscardcare #thehobby #pokemon #tcg #charizard
