[screaming] Good afternoon. I'm still reporting on the Christy Gnome controversy. Yesterday, President Trump suddenly removed Christine Gnome from her job as Secretary of Homeland Security. The move came after rumors spread about a possible romantic relationship between Gnome and Cory Lewendowski, who managed Trump's 2016 campaign. Reports show Trump's decision built up over time from several problems with the breaking point tied to Nome's recent rough congressional hearings earlier this week. The main issues included complaints about immigration enforcement, such as ICE and CBP agents shooting and killing US citizens, plus firing or demoting about 80% of longtime ICE field leaders under Noom and Luendowski, causing major chaos at the department. She was also accused of misusing government resources like taking private jets for personal travel. There are also accusations that Gnome lied under oath during a Senate hearing. She said Luwendowski had no role in approving contracts. However, government records showed he personally signed off on multi-million dollar equipment deals to personal friends of his. This raised questions about possible perjury and hurt her credibility. Luwendowski, a close Trump ally, worked as an unpaid adviser to Noom. Rumors of an affair. Both are married to other people, had been around for months, fed by stories of them traveling together on government planes and close working habits. One incident involved Luwendowski reportedly firing a Coast Guard pilot over a missing blanket. The firing was later undone. In hearings, a congresswoman asked Noom point blank if she had sexual relations with Luwendowski. She called it tabloid garbage. However, she did not give a strong denial, which sources say made Trump furious. He had already blocked Luwendowski from a bigger official role because of the rumors. Luwendowski is also expected to leave DHS. Trump posted the change on Truth Social mentioning frustrations like a heated call with Luwendowski over the spending. Trump has now nominated Senator Mark Wayne Mullen of Oklahoma to replace Gnome starting March 1st, 2026. Noom got reassigned to a less visible job as special envoy for the Shield of America's project, which will focus on fighting drug cartels in the region. In short, the affair rumors made the scandal worse and created conflict of interest concerns as well, but the firing came mostly from leadership failures, congressional push back, spending issues, and problems running DHS.
