Most Developers Are Using AI Wrong (Replit Shows Why)

So if you're not using AI in your workflows to build your apps, to build your projects, you're doing things the slow way and you're going to be left behind. In fact, because of AI, this is probably one of the best times to become a developer, to start a business, to start freelancing. AI is opening up a huge range of opportunities. Again, I haven't seen since the 1990s in my opinion. So back in the 1990s, people who adopted web design and web development as opposed to traditional development had a huge advantage. People who used Excel and digital workflows had a huge advantage. Today, the big advantage is found with AI tools. Here's a key thing to understand about AI. AI is going to take care of execution. It's going to take care of all the nitty-gritty details, but you still need to know what you're doing. You still need to have judgment. You still need to have skills. You still need domain knowledge. You have to think of AI as a power tool. It will multiply your output. It will make you far more productive. Over the last 30 years of being in technology, I've seen this happen over and over again. New technology comes out, early adopters gain a huge advantage. So, people who get into AI now are going to have a huge advantage. Well, they already are. And of course, a few years later, the rest of the uh community decides to jump on board and they're going to do well. But it's the early adopters who have the huge advantage. By the way, AI is doing this at a scale I have not seen before. And because of all this, I decided to accept this sponsorship with Replit. I see its advantage having worked with the Frontier models. So the project I decide to use Replit for or with is something very simple. So I have a new premium consulting that I'm offering on uh my mentoring program at Uncle Steph and um so I need a landing page. I could build the whole thing from scratch. So I said why not just use Replit. So what I did was pointed Replit to my website. Told it what I want. I said structure this new landing page base on the website. try to keep the style similar and also insert some marketing copy as well. So I generated the prompt and a prompt if you don't know it's just a set of instructions uh that you give the AI it's human human instructions and uh then repl put out the uh put out the landing page for me. So here is the repl app. So essentially, instead of using one of the frontier models, you use this tool because it brings everything together for you. It just makes it a lot easier. So here's the homepage where I can decide to create an app. I can build different types of apps, upload files. I can select if I want a web app, mobile app, animation, whatever it is, 3D game. And then I have a design area for I just want to design something. Again, you can upload files so that you can give the AI a reference. So, it's like having a super powerful assistant. So, here's something I was working on recently. So, I have a landing page I want to build for my uh mentoring program. I'm adding a new high level of mentoring. So, I I gave it a a prompt here and all kinds of details about the page. So have it look at my page, my current site stuff, and to describe what the goal was, gave it some rules, etc. And so it generated something like this for the first round. Not bad, right? It uses the same font, same basic layout. Now, it's it's not perfect first time around, but it's a great way to get going right away based on what you can do and what you want to do. And you could just keep updating and refining it via prompt or you could just take this and then um just download it and then bring it to uh if you're if you know a little bit of HTML CSS make make your changes as well. So you can see the adjustments. I sent it these files. I said okay here you know you this icon is broken here. Make some modifications here. So if you look at this drop down here, there's a significance to this because Replit has created a bunch of refined agents that will allow you to build these type of uh implementations for lack of better terms much more easily. If you work with any of the Frontier models, the Gros, uh the Geminis, I don't know, Chachi Piti, problem with them is that they go off on these crazy tangents. So you need to provide a framework and a structure for them. So Replit does this for you right here. So you can select so by selecting mobile app or web app or animation so forth you move into a different refined AI that uh is curated so that that you're going to have a better workflow, a better experience. Another cool thing is the integrations that are all built into the uh into the service. So right now right away you can easily connect Postgra SQL object storage authentication layer etc. And you can easily connect different third party tools like a Google Docs, GitHub, Dropbox etc. just by signing in and and it connects it to your account. So then the agent, the AI can interact with these things pretty easy. Same thing with the MCP servers etc and so forth. So you got to look at replet replletit as kind of like a for me anyway for an old school developer it's like a it's like an IDE for for models. It's like an IDE for AI. So it just speeds up the whole process. Yes, you can go directly to the Frontier models and stitch things up yourself, but it's going to take a lot more time. The whole point of all all technology really is that you want to get it done quickly. So, anyways, there you go. I had uh created my page by giving it a prompt. I've modified it many times. Okay, fix this up. Fix this. Fix this. So, you know, I was able to build this very this basic landing land landing page for the sake of the demo. I was able to build it in a fraction of the time would have taken me to do it uh myself. So, as you can see, you don't need to spend the extra time building the landing page. And this is a super simple example. As you saw in the demo, Replit can do all kinds of crazy things for you or crazy good things. Why spend the extra time today building a landing page even though I can, you know? So, use the tool to prototype ideas, test ideas, uh quick quickly iterate as I did in the example. I was quickly adjusting the page, you know, just say do this, do this, do this, and was able to do it. And so, you can move your project forward much more quickly. So, if you're a developer, this will speed up the whole process. If you're a freelancer, you'll increase your output, which lets you take on more work, more clients, more money. If you're a business owner, you can launch new ideas and offers. It's just way faster. Again, you still need to know what you're doing. You still need to know your fundamentals, how to structure things, and so forth. But Replit gives you this 360 tool where you can design, execute, and even deploy uh hook up all the different various services. It's all built into the platform. So, it just allows you to move at a speed that uh you wouldn't you wouldn't be able to otherwise. So, here's the marketing copy. So, use Replit to take care of the heavy lifting while you review and oversee the process. You have to overview. Like, you're not going to just sit there and say, "Okay, do this and go have a coffee." Well, not most of the time anyway, but you know, you still have to know what you're doing. You still have to follow through, go back and forth. But it's just so much faster. You know, people who follow my work, if you've seen my videos, you know I'm all for using any tools that speed up production. One of the things I've been teaching for years, don't look for code to write. Look, see what's out there, use the tools, leverage those tools. There'll be plenty of opportunity for you to tinker into details. So, when you look at a tool like Replet, this is a classic example of a hyperproductive tool set that uh everybody should be using. So how is repl different from using AIs like GPT or Gemini? You have to think of the big AIs like GPT Gemini. They call them frontier models. Uh you have to think of them as kind of like the raw ingredients. Now the problem is they're so big is that they can go crazy. They can go off on all these hallucination tangents and make assumptions and uh you have to deal with a lot a lot of edge cases as as they call them. Meaning you'll be working with an AI and you say do and then all a sudden it's like as I said it just goes off on these weird tangents. So what repllet provides is that structure they provide these AIs these agents that have been uh trained to work within the context like for example build a web app build a mobile app so etc and so forth and they provide all the stitching so the automatic the automatic connections the easy connections to the third party tools and um and the deployment easy deployment so that's the whole point of using this tool. It's far more curated. So, this is going to save you a lot of time. Again, to reiterate, users who use AI are going to have a huge advantage, have huge leverage because the AI is going to speed up production, make the whole thing much easier. So, for me, I'm not an AI doomer. I think that AI is just creating massive opportunities. I'm seeing it all the time.
