Analysis Summary

40% Low Influence
mildmoderatesevere

“Be aware that the emotional backstories of the sellers are used to create a 'human' connection to the inventory, which may make you more likely to pay a premium when those specific cards are later auctioned on the channel's platforms.”

Transparency Mostly Transparent
Primary technique

Performed authenticity

The deliberate construction of "realness" — confessional tone, casual filming, strategic vulnerability — designed to lower your guard. When someone appears unpolished and honest, you evaluate their claims less critically. The spontaneity is rehearsed.

Goffman's dramaturgy (1959); Audrezet et al. (2020) on performed authenticity

Signals

The content is clearly human-made, featuring authentic, unscripted dialogue, personal memories, and spontaneous interactions that lack the formulaic structure or synthetic pacing of AI. The presence of specific regional details and niche hobby knowledge further confirms human authorship.

Natural Speech Patterns Transcript includes filler words (uh, okay, cool), colloquialisms (16ish, shoot), and natural conversational flow with interruptions (>> Yeah. >> Yeah.).
Personal Anecdotes Specific, non-generic stories about Hurricane Harvey flooding, getting autographs at the Astrodome in 1999, and interactions with Buck Showalter.
Environmental Interaction Real-time observations of the surroundings, such as the bag hanging from a car and the noise level inside the coffee shop.

Worth Noting

Positive elements

  • This video provides a rare, transparent look at the actual logistics and 'Market Mover' pricing strategies used in high-end sports card arbitrage.

Be Aware

Cautionary elements

  • The 'storytelling' aspect of the buy (the seller's personal history) is a powerful tool to increase the perceived value of the cards when they are eventually resold to the viewers.

We are here in Orlando, Florida. It's a Sunday morning. We just filmed a collection yesterday. We're going to go grab some coffee down the street at a shop called Exo Coffee. We're going to meet somebody named Austin who drove 2 hours this morning to show me his collection. We're going to do it in the parking lot. See if I can get a quick deal done. And then the boys and I are going to go to Universal Studios and go check out the new park. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Let's go. So, this guy Austin reached out to me, I think, through Instagram, and it was probably a month ago. We had a Florida trip planned. Check this out. It's kind of funny. This guy's got a bag hanging from his car. Looks like he's going to the dump. So, he reached out and said, "Hey, man. I got I got a collection I'd love to sell to you if you're in Florida." So, that's funny. Funny enough, we're going to be in Florida. What do you got? He sent me his basically four three to 400 cards and it was market mover stuff, like a market mover report. And the report was like 28 to 32 somewhere in there depending on like how a couple cards priced. And I said, "Uh, okay, cool. What do you what do you want for it?" And he said thinking like 16ish, 16 to 17. Oh, shoot. Okay. Well, he's probably at 50%. There's probably some cars that maybe aren't priced right in market movers. That could be the situation. But I told him that we're in Orlando for a short period of time. And he goes, "Well, I'm in uh Jacksonville and I can make the drive to you on Sunday morning." So, he's making I think a 2hour drive this morning to meet us at 9:00 a.m. So, I'm kind of curious to see. It's been a while since we've done a parking lot deal, but at least we got a coffee shop there. It's backup plan. What is going on here? >> What's up, Austin? >> Well, meet Austin. The coffee shop was loud, so we spent a few minutes getting caffeinated and knocking out the formalities. And then we headed outside to see his carts. >> Oh my gosh. Remember the buffets back then? >> Those were >> That was the stuff. >> Booket Club where you get your reading done for a free pizza. >> All right. So, I guess we had a little bit of a a spill. >> More than I was thinking. >> I brought this along. I don't know if you want that, but um this is, you know, you got like some F1, you know, >> what type of collector are you? >> So, I like vintage baseball, Astros, Baylor. >> Okay, >> those that's my thing. Uh so, so some of this is kind of fun. So, these are three cards when I was a kid I thought were going to pay for my college. >> Uh no. And the funny part is, so my parents house flooded during Hurricane Harvey and they saved a lot of my baseball cards. And when they finally brought them back to me, I was like, "Oh my gosh, look how miscut they are." >> Um, yeah. So, childhood when you go. >> Well, I know. I got this signed at the Astrodome in 1999. >> It's a little Randy Johnson. >> Yeah. He uh was actually trying to get Buck Shoalter's autograph. >> Wow, that's sweet. So, you personally got that one signed? >> Yeah. And um >> a great >> Buck Sho Walter. I asked, you know, I was probably like 10, 12 years old at the time. Yeah. >> And I asked him, I'm like, "Hey, Mr. Schultter, can I have your autograph?" He's like, "Yeah, you don't want mine." I'm like, "Why?" He's like, "You want the guy below me?" And you know, he hands the card >> and uh like I guess Randy Johnson signs it, stands up and gives it to me. Nothing crazy over here. >> Vlatty probably should have gotten these graded back in 2019. >> Yeah. Right. Hold up. >> So, how long have you been doing this? I mean, I see some vintage scatter in here, too. >> So, I collected as a kid. Um, so like you know, the Tiger Wood stuff and >> keep that going. >> Yep. >> Legit. >> Yeah, it's legit. >> Actually traded another one and some other 55 commons for that back at a car show in Houston. >> Wow, that's that's a good looking scubing. >> I mean, 75 Nolan Ryan as a Texas boy. you want any Indian ride. >> And then uh you know also tried to pick up some stuff. So like Nick Loftton, he went to Baylor. Um Jaylen Petri, Baylor, also a Texan, so that kind of makes it fun. >> Okay. >> 2022. >> Okay. >> Uh went to this card show right by the airport cuz I had like 2 or 3 hours to kill him. Saw that. Picked it up. >> It's pretty sweet. >> All they had was like vintage stuff which was pretty pretty incredible. >> Yeah, there's some sweet cars in here, man. And then okay, so I had no idea what to do with that one, but you couldn't really put it into other sports cards. So Post Malone, >> he made the cut. >> And then uh Drake May out of 25. >> Some more oonies. So that's kind of >> Dang, that's a good binder. >> It's kind of this >> it presents well with the top lows in there. >> All right, so this is going to be a mix of um really quickly, I want to show you the card that I told you that I'm not going to sell. It's the >> It is. >> So, my dad picked it up. >> Okay. >> For Christmas two years ago. >> See this bad boy. >> Tell me the story. So, he picked it up for you. >> So, I've been fortunate enough that, you know, I've been able to travel a lot and I've been to Japan. I'm actually going for the World baseball Classic in a few weeks. >> You're going to the BC BC? >> So, it'll be my eighth trip to Japan. And, uh, my dad and I, we've been to a Tokyo Giants game. We've been to a um, Orics Buffalo game. >> Okay. And so for Christmas in 2024, he was so excited to give me a Christmas gift. And uh he got me a box of uh Stadium Club and then also the Otani. Okay. >> And uh he picked it up at the card shop that you filmed at and Conra McGomery live on that area. >> No kidding. >> And uh you know he doesn't know the difference between you know tops panini or anything like that but he was Otani and the signature and he thought it was the coolest thing. I think it's the coolest thing. >> That's so cool. And uh so that that that card means a lot to you. >> I mean I I was telling someone a few weeks ago that um >> this is one that I'll never get rid of. >> Yeah. >> You know, just because of you know, he's a two-time stroke survivor >> and uh he was my age when he had his first stroke and uh I was sophomore in high school and uh he probably shouldn't have made it past the night and then he did >> and um you know I don't know it just means a lot to me just >> it's really cool. So, >> wow, that's cool. >> As you can see, Austin has some amazing cards, but it feels like there's some emotion wrapped up in the collection. >> Why are you selling all this stuff, man? Doesn't bring me joy anymore. >> It feels like it does, though. Like, you have stories and everything. I mean outside of that card maybe, but like >> so I have like a part of my childhood collection I call them and from that I've got more of like the Randy Johnson type autographs that I got as a kid and I was looking through them a few weeks ago >> and um there were two Tony Gwen cards that you know for me it was just like an incredible memory of him coming going and getting on the bus with his two brown bags and uh he just walked by everyone was you know yelling for his name doesn't say a word just gets on the bus everyone's disappointed about 2 minutes later he comes back in his highpitched voice right, who wants an autograph and just signs for every kid. And to me, it's those memories that really connecting with the sport. And now, um, I think it's just kind of tough with, you know, prices just getting out of hand. And a box that you could pick up and have fun on for, I don't know, 5 6 years ago was 120 bucks and now that same box is, you know, 500. So, it's just I don't know. I think there are other things that I would probably rather do, travel. And >> so, you aren't going to you sell this, you're not going to buy as many parts. >> Never say never. But >> yeah. >> Yeah. >> But the idea is not take this single buy more parts. >> No. No. And if I if I do, it would be, you know, like really unique pieces, you know, not >> Gotcha. Okay. >> Oh, that's awesome. >> Sweet. >> Yeah, that's cool. >> 101. >> So, his brother was actually uh killed at the uh uh attack in New Orleans, if you remember that. Yeah, I looked it up. I had no idea who he was. >> No kidding. You've joined some breaks. >> I know. >> I'll try to be smart about it. Like pick certain teams so you know we're not being >> It's very consistent with the teams you're choosing. >> Yeah. >> These look better in person. They do on a spreadsheet. >> I'm glad. >> Uh so you remember these? Oh yeah. >> Yeah. So I've got a few more that are just in here, but Votani one I pulled out separately. >> Oh yeah. >> So this is a interesting I have no idea what to think of this one. the leaf like >> who's going to buy you Marshall, Maddox, Smoltz, Gooden. My gosh. >> Yeah. >> So, where did you get a car like this? Is this a break, too? >> This is probably like 2019, 2020, something like that. And a break. And then there's the trial. >> The trial. That's >> Did you go through all this? >> Well, you said Baylor, so I was kind of stopped. >> Oh, come on. >> No. No. >> Are you a KU guy? >> Mu3. Who's the best Baylor player of all time? >> Oh, it's minus the fairy. >> Okay. >> All right. Uh, nothing terribly crazy in here, but uh, Jackson Cheerio. >> Yeah. >> Brett Harve. Um, I had no idea who that was, but saw their card show for 10 bucks and thought it was cool. >> Why not? It's a good grade. He's 60 Fleer >> Houston as well. So love and then a bunch of this stuff is just graded. That doesn't >> Yeah, >> that guy was hot a long time ago. >> Love those carpets. >> This is so sweet. >> You got some cool stuff, man. I I love it. What? This was all the stuff that was just extra bulk. >> No. Is it? >> So I would say this is bulk. So in here, um there is stuff I would say the bulk of it is probably like 1 to five. >> Okay. But there is stuff that is higher end. Okay. So, for this box, um I had I had football and and uh basketball kind of separated, but then I decided last night to combine them. >> Okay. >> And so this is all like autos. >> Oh, gotcha. Okay. Autos and patches, and I separated them by sport. >> Yeah, for sure. Okay, I see what you're saying. >> Well, that's good to know. And I love these cases. anytime someone brings these cases. >> Was all this on the spreadsheet or is it just >> uh you didn't take the time to do that? >> All of it is um >> now I did update the spreadsheet a little bit. So like stuff like this wasn't on there. >> Okay. >> Just so the viewer understand, you sent a spreadsheet. It was a it was an export out of Market Movers. >> Yeah. >> Is that your preferred platform? >> Uh I thought it was the easiest one. Okay. >> To actually upload. Here's what the collection is on Market Mover 293. >> Okay. And then if you remove this, I have that. >> I couldn't find a last sold anytime recently, but there was a raw one that sold for 2,000. >> Okay. >> So, um, if you remove this, it gets down to 273. >> Okay. >> This is totally up to you. I could go either way. I'd be I'd like to keep like one of these like terribly cut ones. I don't know. That's going to be a deal breaker for you. >> What? No. Let's go. No, dude. Keep what you want. >> I mean, it's just >> I think you should keep that. >> I was That was going to be the one. And then I'm kind of torn on these two. So, you know, this was again collecting with dad. And then we actually traded a bunch of 55 Bowmans for this >> at a card Tristar card show. But I don't want these to be like deal breakers. So, >> well, I mean, nothing's a dealbreaker cuz we're here, but I want you to >> Yeah. >> I want you to feel good about this. So, I mean, take what you got to take. >> I mean I mean I love I love the maze for sure. I would be indifferent about that cuz I'll come across those all the time. But like if the maze is important to you, then you should keep the maze. Are you sure? >> Is that okay? >> It's your collection. >> I know, but I >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I mean, yeah, it's an awesome car for sure. >> It's just uh, you know, memories and stuff like that. >> Take the mix. >> Then outside of this, I'm good. >> Okay. What What What's What's the fair price to you then? You made the drive today. >> Full comp. No, I'm just joking. 265 puts it at 1855 for 70. I don't know how you feel about um I've got wiggle room, but how about 165? I'd have been closer to 60 or 65. Okay, 165. >> Can we do 17? >> 17. Yeah, you made the draw. 17. Appreciate it. >> Done. >> I'm assuming I get to keep these cases. >> No, I I'm going to make you take them all out. >> You're like, I got a box in here for you to put them in. >> So, there you have it. That was uh I don't know how much we got of that. I mean, pretty cool story. Austin drove, you know, two hours today and we end up getting this. I mean, he had a cool collection. We pulled out the 55 Bowman Maze and the 75 Ryan. He pull out an Otani auto. He thinks that the car ladder market movers prices were showing around 26 27 and uh I I offer them basically 65%. Which I think is perfectly fair. It's it's a combination of some good mid to highend stuff and then a lot of low to mid-end stuff. So I think that's a fair price. And so there we go. We settled on 17. Anytime someone makes a drive 2 hours for you >> Mhm. You go out of your way to make it work for them. >> Excuse our burrito. Well, you got a bagel. >> Mhm. Not bad. >> Not bad. He already had his his burrito. This is pretty good. Look at that. Shout out to XO doing tattoos, burritos, and coffee. I wasn't recording there at the end, but as we're walking off, we we loaded the cards up and I was talking to Austin. His dad, Steve, multiple strokes, lives in Houston. He lives in Jacksonville now for his job. And uh he was just talking about how much his dad means to him. Like he's just realizing that his dad's going through some stuff and he he just wants to be closer to him and wants to spend more time with him. I think a lot of that selling this collection, I think, is probably related to that, too. It's kind of cool. We kept some cool cars for memory sake. It's neat to see guys in my age group realizing how valuable and important their dads are before their dads pass away. So hopefully Austin gets to find more time with his dad. Speaking of dads, dad's going to go take his boys to uh Epic Universe now. Universal Studios. We'll take you guys along. We'll let you see we'll let you see some rides today and see how this experience is. >> Let's do it. >> Let's go. >> But afterwards, we did buy a collection yesterday, a massive collection. We're going to go pick it up tomorrow morning, and I want to show you how we ship stuff back home. A lot of people ask, "How do you ship stuff across the country?" Well, I'll take you through the journey of shipping stuff back home and how we make it all happen. So, let's go have some fun. We made it in. We did it. Here you go. Take a look. Look at these kids. They're just in a overreaction face. >> I want this toothless, Dad. >> I can't do that. >> You can't do it, Ty. >> First ride. >> Stardust Racers. Here's what a lunch looks like in Universal Studios. 50 bucks. And what is Kai doing? He's watching Mr. on whatn not giving away >> just grab a car >> 492,000 Freddy Gotti just won a car. How funny would that have been if like chasing garb were to come up right there live? Greatest video ever. >> Exactly. >> All right, so we've been here for what time we get here when they opened. Right. 10. >> We've been here for three and a half hours. We've ridden We've rode two rides. >> Two rides. >> Two rides in three and a half hours. Apparently, we haven't we haven't ridden ridden >> roden. >> We haven't roden. We haven't ridden the best two rides here according to multiple magazines. The Harry Potter ride, Wizards of Something, and then the >> Frankenstein. Stuff that we wouldn't normally do, but we're going to go do because $600 for beer. Here we go. >> Let's go. All right. So, we just rode the Frankenstein ride. Maybe the coolest production I've ever seen on a ride. I want to go back and ride it again with the Google Metas. Let you guys see them. Whoa, that is crazy. All right, final day. We are going to go package up a $117,000 collection. I don't know if we have enough space. Are they trying to disguise that tower with branches? Wonder if they do, we can still see it. Secret sauce, Home Depot. So, here's what you're looking for. You're looking for medium heavy duty boxes. Those are perfect for like two, two and a half, two rows, three rows. Heavy duty shipping tape, bubble wrap. If they had peanuts, it'd be even better. We don't have those. Over the years, I've shipped hundreds of thousands of dollars in sports card collections back to Kansas City. And while it's stressful to think about, actually getting it done is really not that hard. For about $200, I'll get all the supplies necessary to ship a massive collection back to KC today. We have six total bags that we can check onto the plane. So, I'm using all of that space for the tier one inventory in the collection. Thankfully, Sam gave us an extra day to come back over and organize the collection for shipment and travel. Everything not going on the plane is going into one of the 12 Home Depot boxes for UPS shipping. Good job, Jax. You're doing great. Can't wait for my pet. >> Come on. We did it. success. So, that took us 2 hours to do. That was >> But we Well, we got all the work done, so there's nothing to do in the parking lot, so I put it in boxes, which will be great. Uh man, you can see that. So, that's why you plan extra time. But we do got to haul now cuz we got to get to the UPS store and get all this done so we can go enjoy ourselves sort of thing. Woo! So, we little change of plans. We uh we decided to switch our flights out of Orlando instead of Tampa. It was going to originally going to save us considerable money, like 600 bucks, but Southwest is great. We uh we had to pay a little bit extra and switch it to Orlando today. We got to fly a little earlier, but it gives us some time to go to Orlando card shops potentially for a couple hours. And these boys are excited about that. >> Yeah. >> Nice to meet you, man. >> Nice to meet you. Good to meet you, my friend. Nice to meet you. >> Nice to meet you. Hi, >> Josh. Nice to meet you guys. >> Nice to meet you. Yeah, I already have boxes. I'm just going to fill the boxes with cards on this thing. Cool. >> Ship these bad boys. >> Sweet. >> Is it okay if we just pack out right here? >> Absolutely. Yeah, you can bring it in here and do what you need. >> Look at that form. If you're watching this, you're thinking, okay, why you doing so? While you spend so much time taping, I'm going to give you the the four T's of taping. Number one, tension. You got to put good tension on the tape. You got to put your hand across. So, number two is touch. Number three is toughness. You want to get good, good, tough tape. Number four, force tape. Use more of it. >> Hey, how do you like that camera? >> It's good. It's nice. Yeah, it's fun to use. >> Yeah, it's super nice, dude. that thing around anytime. >> Yeah, >> I want to get one so bad. >> Yeah, they're nice. >> What do you guys >> Uh, we do sports memorabilia, sports cards, travel across the country. We're from Kansas City. >> Oh, dope, bro. >> Yeah, chasing cardboard on YouTube. You see it? >> Chasing cardboard. >> Chasing cardboard. Like cardboard cards. >> Nice. Nice, man. >> What's your name? >> My name uh Roman. >> Roman. Good to meet you. Hi. Hi. >> Nice to meet you. Good job. >> Yeah. Thank you. All right. So, check that out. Claremont UPS store. Josh, owner Josh, collector, friend of Sam's. He was just stinking incredible. UPS store's always been great to me in the past. I had a couple incidents. Over time you get incidents, but UPS has always been the best for this type of stuff. Go check out if you're in Claremont, 30 minutes outside of Orlando, you need to ship something. He'll know what you need to take care of. No, he'll know what you need to do. Go see Go see Josh. >> All right, so we got stuck a little bit packing longer than we thought. And uh you know what? We can't make the card shop. So Orlando Card Shop is out of the itinerary. We're headed to the airport because uh Jackson just looked it up, found out that it's the seventh busiest airport in the United States. And since we're checking in $100,000 in sports cards, we figured it might be good to get there a little early so we don't we don't lose our bags. When it was all said and done, I spent $17,000 on Austin's collection and $1,000 on the day at Universal. I spent $200 on shipping supplies, another $700 to ship with UPS, tack on another $450 for flight changes and bag fees, $200 for car rental, $265 for Airbnb, $190 for meals, and of course, $57 in coffees. And our 2-day total was $20,62. But in my book, the best trips are the ones that combine cards with great family memories. And this one delivered in spades. Oh, and just so you know, UPS lost one of my 12 boxes during shipment. So, if you happen to receive a random 55lb box of relics and autos, it's mine. Keep chasing.
