Analysis Summary
Ask yourself: “Did I notice what this video wanted from me, and did I decide freely to say yes?”
Performed authenticity
The deliberate construction of "realness" — confessional tone, casual filming, strategic vulnerability — designed to lower your guard. When someone appears unpolished and honest, you evaluate their claims less critically. The spontaneity is rehearsed.
Goffman's dramaturgy (1959); Audrezet et al. (2020) on performed authenticity
Worth Noting
Positive elements
- The video provides a realistic look at the logistical costs (parking, tickets) and the current market dominance of TCG/Pokemon over traditional sports cards at regional shows.
Be Aware
Cautionary elements
- The 'honest review' format is used to mask a commercial for the host's specific inventory and 'investment' systems.

I am on my way to Culture Collision. It's January 23rd. Uh Culture Collision show here in Atlanta. Um this is the day before the snowmageddon that's supposed to be happening all over the country, at least in this part of the country in several states. So I figured if I'm going to be able to get to this show, I need to go today. So I want to be there when it opens this morning on Friday. Some of you will probably remember the last show that Don and I or the last time Don and I went to this show, which is the last time they had it here. We waited and went on the last day, the Sunday, and it was disappointing. Half the dealers had packed up and left. Uh weren't around. It was it was just disappointing. Uh you may have seen that video. So, I'm hoping for a great turnout. A lot of dealers. This is our first show of this year obviously that we've attended. One thing I saw that I thought was crazy and I might be missing something, but on their website, if you're a dealer and you don't show up, they had a clause in there where they charge you an additional $250. If you book a table and you don't show up, it's an additional $250. Well, life happens. snowstorms happen, you know, family emergencies. Don and I did 14, 15 shows last year, and if that clause was in any contract, I wouldn't have signed up for the show. I don't understand that. I think it's ridiculous. And especially this weekend, I don't know if it's something they just added in, but you know, you have dealers coming from several states to this show normally. And if they're predicting the type of ice and storm that they are for tomorrow here in Atlanta, I wouldn't make the trip. And you're going to charge me an additional $250 for something that's out of my control? I don't know, guys. Just wanted to throw that in and share that. But I'm excited about this show. This is the I think the third or fourth time I've attended and uh have always done pretty well here. So, we'll see what happens. We'll give you an update as we get there and go through the show. [music] It's about noon and you can see the owls. Not a lot of people here really. And I would say it's 60% Pokemon and hardly anybody here really. >> So it's about noon. The show's been open 2 hours. But again, we're expecting a major snowstorm to come through. So the dealers have showed up, but not a lot of attendees so far. It's about 3:30. 3:30. I'm getting ready to head out. A lot more people here, so that's good. So, this was the venue where it was held. Really nice and very encouraged to see a lot of more people coming in as the day goes on. It's about 3:30. I'm going to head out of here. Um, picked up a ton of cards for our whatnot show. I am headed home. I'll be home in about 40 minutes. I just left the show. Uh overall, it was much better. The first day of this show was much better than the last day of the last show that Don and I went to. Uh as you saw to when I was leaving, the crowd had increased probably five, six times what it was this when I first got there. um had a pretty good day. I picked up um several Braves cards from the 60s and 70s that we'll add to our Braves box when we do shows. I bought five Braves slabs. Uh, I got them for $55 for five, which I'm not going to make much money, but they were they're good cards that uh we do our $15 slab bucks and people will want they're good cards for people that attend the shows that we do. So, I felt good about that pickup. Uh most of what I got I probably got four or 500 cards that we'll end up doing in our whatnot show and I'll cover those show you some of those when we get home. Um it was a good show. Lot of influencers running around. The king of cards was there. Uh broth cards was set up. Uh lot of influencers. Big show. A lot of big deals seemed like was going on. But it was at least 60% Pokemon, maybe more. A lot of Pokemon. A lot of people talking about One Touch or Magic Touch or I can't remember the name of what's the hot the hot anime cards that's that's going on right now. So, it's just a different kind of environment. But, I had a good time. I I love sitting down and going through and and finding cards that I think other people, other collectors will enjoy adding to their collection. Uh like I said, I'll be home in about 40 minutes. I do pass an antique mall on the way home. I may stop there uh because they normally have some cards. I may stop, may not. Uh, but I'm definitely going to I'll cover with you some of the cars that we picked up for our whatnot show when we get back. So, we'll talk to you in a few. Okay, I'm home, guys. Uh, it's about 1:00 in the morning. Really, it's been a long day, but I wanted to get this done. Just kind of share with you guys some of the things that we picked up. My goal when I went to this show was to pick up a couple I was hoping to pick up a couple of Connor Griffin refractors um to $4.99. That's what I was looking for. And I talked to every dealer I knew there and those I didn't know. Nobody had any Connor Griffin at all except one one dealer. He had one of these cards. No other ones. He did have this one, but he was $400 on it [clears throat] and wouldn't come off of it. $400. And I knew this one was on eBay at 212. Again, I wanted to pick up a couple, one to hang on to personal for my PC and one to sell in the future. Uh, but no Connor Griffin. We ended up I went through the whole show looking for Connor Griffin first. Couldn't find it. Then I decided, well, I'm just going to get in the value boxes and spend as much time as I can and find as much inventory as I can for our whatnot stream. We just started whatnot stream this year and it's something that we want to add to our business model at DND Sports Cards. Uh we do shows every Tuesday. We do one around noon at 12:15 and then Tuesday evenings at 8:15. Would love to have you guys stop by. Uh, I'll leave a link in the description. Uh, you can follow us here. Here's our profile here, DND Sports Cards. We'd love for you to follow us. We'd appreciate it. Uh, again, I'll leave the link. If for some reason you haven't, you know, scan the code and got your $15 off, I'll put a link where you can get $15 off the first time you come to whatnot if you haven't already done that. Uh, but that's what I ended up doing. And you can see, I'll just share with you some of the things I bought. I bought every Drake May rookie card this one gentleman had in his uh available. It ended up being I think there was 40 and I bought them all because Drake May is very popular here in Atlanta. I think he's underrated uh in in the hobby. Even though he was rookie of the year last year, uh the guy's solid. He's solid defensively. He's got a strong arm. He's a great hitter. And I think he's going to be in the Braves organization for many years to come. We'll look at these close. Some of these we some of these cosmic chromes. Uh I see they're going for about $ 35 $40 graded uh on eBay and I think they're only going to go up. I may send a couple of these to PSA or an alternative grader and and maybe even some of the other rookie cards. Don't know yet what I'm going to do. and just picked up a lot of cards that I know people on our whatnot stream like this Jordan up here. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet and do my research, but that's an interesting card. Uh these Paul Skins Cosmic, I'm probably paid too much for them, but I know Paul Skins does very well on whatnot. And then the mate mate uh and PA I'm going to probably just hang on to for a while. Got some Cal Raleigh rookies, several uh um P Cro Armstrong, JJ Weatherhole, you know, just people that I think are going to be have a lot of buzz behind them going into baseball this year. uh is my thoughts. So that's basically what I picked up. I did pick up about 23 24 older all team cards uh from one value box. If you guys are normal viewers of this video, you know why I did a whole video just on this called collectors love them or you selling them and the easiest fastest way for newbies to double their money in the sports card niche. And it's definitely with these team cards. So, I picked up everyone they had in one value box. Uh, which I was happy to find those. I'm always happy to find those. Picked up several Braves cards from the 60s. Uh, not several, but 10 or 12. Uh, that will go in our Braves box that we do. It shows uh just a huge Braves market here and people love these older Braves especially. And then I found this Tiffany. This is a Tiffany rookie of Gerald Perry. I've already priced these, so I've already processed these. They're already in our Braves box. But, you know, Gerald Perry was a fairly popular player here in Atlanta. And the Tiffany is something that collectors just don't see every day. So, I went on and picked that up. And, you know, Ralph Gar was popular here as well. And so I got some inventory for our Braves box. I bought every Otani I could find in the value boxes. He does fabulous on our whatnot shelves. And uh so I bought every one I I could find. I bought Bobby Wit. I bought Griffy Jr. was able to pick up this Tops rookie. Uh every Ellie Ellie does well. I bought a few uh Wimyama as well as uh LeBron's. They're not all pictured here, but you kind of get an idea of what we were able to pick up. I bought every Drake May I could find. If they win the Super Bowl, I'm hanging on to it. I'm probably not going to sell it. I bought the Bow Knicks, every Bow Knicks I could find. Uh Brock Bowers does extremely well here. Picked up a couple of his rookies. uh Faker Mayfield, Patrick Mahomes. You guys kind of get the idea of the top quarterbacks, the ones that have the most buzz around them. Then I picked up several vintage cards, some old Pirates, Willie Starel, Manny, uh Mory Wheels, this Phil Neero for this market here in Atlanta. This Hank Aaron card, Red's card celebrating the World Series victory. There's a Yuscrimky Kelloggs. You know, this got luau cinder, couple of older uh basketball as well as clay pencen from the 1970 Tops booklets. A lot of people collect those booklets. We sell those very well on eBay. Uh so that's basically what we ended up with. Again, please come by and say hi on our whatnot show. Mark your calendar, set the phone alarm. Tuesdays 12:15 or 8:15. would love to have you there and would appreciate your support and the opportunity to earn your business. Uh there it is again. You can go Marcus and find us D&D sportscards uh_com. We would appreciate it. Uh this show I was I'm mixed about it. I'm glad I didn't drive a long way. Um, I'm going to go every chance I get if I can because I'm here in Atlanta. But if you're driving several hours to come just to to the show, you know, you just need to be aware. You probably know the tickets are $20, which is harder for a family. Uh, parking was $10. So, just things you need to think about. Is it worth it? You know, if you're in Raleigh, North Carolina, there's great shows in that area. Do you need to drive to Atlanta to come to Culture Club? There's no big huge autograph guest or any particular reason for coming. Maybe everybody should come once and then kind of make your own decision about it. Uh I don't, you know, I I thought it was it was fine. I'm happy with what we were able to pick up. Disappointed that I I couldn't find my Connor Griffins, but it is what it is. Uh, I found great inventory that I know the people that uh come to our whatnot streams will will want, you know, that they'll be happy to get these cards to add to their collection. And, uh, that's kind of our market is collectors and small dealers, uh, people that are creating a side gig in the sports card market. So, that's it for now, guys. I'm going to get some sleep. thoughts and prayers to you. Again, a lot of the United States are they're talking about snow and ice and terrible weather this weekend. So, be safe and uh we'll talk to you again soon. Hope to see you Tuesday night.
