[music] Welcome back to Cards and Comics, guys. Today I have something rare for me, which is a PSA greeting return video. And this is all pre-war. So, yay, pre-war. Now, this is weird for a lot of reasons. one. This submission was pretty much from the national and I had it go through a third party uh that submitted through a friend of mine and it just took forever um to get graded. There was some delay getting shipped and there was just a comedy errors and I finally got it back. Picked it up over Christmas and so I have it back. But there was another issue was that PSA for whatever reason decided not to give numerical grades. So, you might be thinking to yourself, "Well, it's because your cards didn't deserve a numerical grade." Well, it's not true. The cards could have very easily been given numbers because they had numbers from SGC. These were pretty much SGC crackouts. They were twos, threes, and fours. Um, you know, I think two and a half, maybe three and a half was the highest graded. But um I think what happened was because one of the cards submitted in the lot here could only be graded authentic. And so for whatever reason they graded all the cards authentic. And uh I'll show you what it says and and give you my take what I think could have happened. But it kind of bums me out because I do believe all these cards deserve an American grade. They're not altered. They're not trimmed. They're not that way because um they would have said that on the label altered authentic. They do not say that. So, here's the first card. I'm g show you. This card was an SGC was uh I think three uh has a nice little uh pinhole, but it is Tommy Leech T3 Turkey Red Checklist back again. and I have the entire Pirates team set. Um, and so this was one of the cards I wanted to get crossed over because the only reason I'm doing this is why did I break anything out of SGC holders was well, I don't like their holder. I've said this many times, the SGC holder is flimsy. The cards can move around, get underneath the U insert, and so I just like the compact nature and look of the PSA holder. And so you can see it's got a pin hole, but a lot of cards from the set pin holes that are graded two, threes, and fours. It's not going to get it away from being at least a one. So, but you can see the label just says authentic. It does not say authentic altered. Doesn't say trim. Does you know, that would be the way that you would distinguish between um if it's [clears throat] been altered. It'll just say authentic altered, right? It'll have that, you know, it's it's not worthy of a numerical grade. You can just ask for cards to be authenticated. That's a normal thing to do. You can send cards in just to be authentic. And that's what they did. That's not what I wanted. I wanted numerical grading. So, I don't know what happened here, but um this is just what I got. And kind of a bummer. Um and again, there's one card in the submission that can only be graded authentic. There's no other way to do it because it's sort of a insert from a magazine. So, that's first one is Tommy Leech. Uh, oops. I don't get the glare. Next up is see next up here. All right. Uh, one, uh, a Hall of Famer. So, we got Frank Homer and Baker. Uh, [sighs] so this one's got a little more damage to it. Uh, you can see it's got creasing here, here, here. Some paper loss here. Uh, so this one's a little rougher. It's a great image, but just a rougher condition card. Here is again the checklist back. Um, but you know, all those condition errors still don't or condition issues don't mean the card can't be a one or a two, right? So, this could definitely be a one or 1.5 depending on, you know, I think the the image itself is very clean. No big staining, no big holes, missing paper. Um, up in the corners is very common for these big cards. It actually does not have a pinhole um where it was tacked to a wall. So again, you know, very common for this condition for the set. This is probably between a one and a two. Um again, graded just authentic. And I am trying to put this set together slowly. So it does bum me out. I don't have numerical grades even though this is again a personal PC collection card. But the problem is is that when you try to trade, sell, whatever, you know, not having a numerical grade does hurt the value. Uh because again, you either have to get it regraded or you can't really figure out because authentic cards are worth less than uh a two or three. Just a bummer. Um again, but a great card nonetheless. It still doesn't take away from the fact they're great cards and um they just, you know, they're in a holder that doesn't have the right information on it. Um, there you go, Frank Baker. And so the big one uh for me was to get this card. And this card was in a I believe two and a half holder and for SGC and it was falling apart. Uh, and uh, so when I bought it, that SGC holder was already split open. So it it was going to have to get be reholded by SGC or PSA. So I sold, you know, that was the actual impetus. So, I had these cards. Um, I thought about getting them regraded when I bought the Eddie Collins, which I'm going to show you. Um, it was splitted open. It was already halfway open, so I went ahead and just opened the I mean, which didn't take much effort at all. Got the card out and then all of PSA. And again, this one was, I believe, either two and a half or a three. And this is a strong card. You can see the corners. Again, got a little crease here. Um little damage here, but you actually have little paper loss. So you have some squaring of corners. Um strong strong image for Eddie Collins. Great gloss. You can kind of see the gloss on that card is still pretty strong. Um so it's a really nice card. Um I don't think I was looking at the back. thing I loved about it when I bought it was the fact it is a um turkey red uh adback. It does someone did you know write on the back which is again very common for these issues. So again this would be classically in that two to three range for the most part u with that image just a great image and so yeah I I really love this card because again I love the adbacks. I don't have the bender and an adback. I think I will definitely be adding both versions of that bender to my collection. I just have the checklist. But um that is a I love you Andy Collins cards and this is definitely one of my favorite. Um and the reason also I just thought it was really cool to get this card because I already owned the um the notebook cover which is basically the same card just different background. And I thought it was really cool where you could see the difference in background. So it's the same photo where they basically, you know, like I mean there's just so many differences. It's like almost like I would love to like u to take these two cards and like go through every, you know, how it's cropped. Uh the his jersey uh how they've recolored it differently. Um how the grand stand in the back is completely different. It's just like really interesting how they've this is basically the same pose, the same photo, just done completely differently for two different cards. Even though you can see this is like a notebook cover. It's not really a card, but still I love that notebook cover card or notebook cover. And uh I got this at the Nashville as well. So it's kind of like a companion piece uh to the T3. And uh there you go. So now I have both. And again, it's just really cool to see both next to each other. So, what did I get in this order that required it to be completely authentic, not to be an actual graded card? Uh, that would be this. And let's see if I can show it off. Uh, I really like this set. Uh, I like this u issue. Um, it's the M101-2 sporting new supplement, and it is the chief vendor. So, look at that. That thing is a massive, massive piece of art. Oh, you know, this the are so susceptible to damage. But again, they do not grade these. It's got like a little nick missing here. Uh some creasing here, but overall very nice. Very nice. Uh presentation. Here's the back. You got some uh some of this could be I can't So yeah, some a lot of a lot of that stuff there. That's what they call Newton Newton rings, which is like just the how the plastic uh and paper and air kind of like form that little thing. But that's this is the reason why, you know, you had to pay authentic because that's the only way this order could have been submitted is because this card can be only graded authentic. I think that's sort of how everything got graded authentic because this had to be authentic. It's my assumption. Uh, let me know in the comments if you've had other experiences like this. Um, and what you think the next the greatest course of action is because um, there's no reason that these T3s shouldn't have numerical grades, even if they're ones. Um, they're they're not trimmed, they're not altered, they're been graded by SGC before. Um, so again, there's nothing really wrong with the cards other than just they're they're T3s. They're not they're not highra sixes and sevens. They are, you know, one to threes. Um, but they're still very valuable. They're still worthy of grades and they have great eye appeal. Um, and the Eddie Collins to me is a great looking card, especially the adback. Um, love to have, you know, a two on it or something like that. That'd be great. Uh, because again, if I ever want to trade or sell the cards, it'll be much tougher. Uh, and, you know, pretty much losing value there on those cards by them being just an authentic holder. So, should I resubmit them? Should I talk to PSA and ask them like, "Hey, you know, they were, you know, not done the way I expected." I think they're just going to say pound sand and and crack them and resend them is what I think they're going to tell me to do honestly. Um, which just kind of sucks because again, how much how expensive everything is. Um, and nowadays to get things created and the turnaround time. So, if I did crack them out, resend them, I would be another four to six months of waiting for them to come back. Um, and you know, who knows what what would happened to them in that time period, what grade they would get, but I just it's kind of like grading is such a a a waste of time and money in that perspective of it takes forever and then they make mistakes or you don't get what you want and then you have to redo it. And there's not a lot of like customer service where they'll be like, "Oh, we hear you so we'll take 50% off the grading because you know it's not what you wanted." They'll never say that. they'll just be like, "Well, you filled it out wrong or you know, whatever happened happened and now you're, you know, you're stuck with it unless you want to pay to get it regraded again." Um, it is what it is. I think that's what they're going to tell me. Um, so the form is filled out wrong. It's just what it is. Um, so, you know, I think it's not from it's not the end of the world. They're still worth, you know, like even authentic cards sometimes are especially good peel sometimes out sell ones and twos. So, it's not the end of the world, but it's just kind of like a bummer that um they, you know, didn't grade him the way I was expecting. So, but I do get a showstopper piece for Chief Bender. This is definitely a display piece that's amazing. Uh and it's from uh 1909. Um, so you know, it's just one of those really nice looking um pieces that if you're uh a player collector from pre-war, you know, this is something that just looks impressive when you have this hanging on your wall or with your other card. So, um, love it. Doug, my buddy Joba Collector, you know, he's on these issues as well. He's got some great, uh, inserts as well. So, I do feel like it is these are becoming more popular, especially getting them. And this is one of the things like I do bag on grading quite a bit, but this is something that I love about grading is this definitely preserves this very fragile piece. Like this is very difficult to store and to display. This protects it. This allows it to actually be sold uh as well and carry it with you to shows if you want to. So again, this is where grading sometimes really helps. and preserving pieces and make it where you can display, trade, sell these kind of items is much easier than having them in some kind of weird folio or something. That's very difficult and they're very difficult to display without mounting them uh framing them uh and you know, which is probably as expensive as getting them graded. So, I think this is a great solution um is do something like this. So, there it is, guys. That's my pre-war grading uh update. Um, again, love uh getting back some of these cards because um I got the Sai Young T3 at the at the National, but you know, I got Frank Baker and um Eddie Collins as well. Uh so I got three Hall of Famers at that show. So hoping to add some more uh this year. Um, you know, the big uh big two I've left uh is I got the Walter Johnson, I got the Sai Young. I need uh you know, the Cobb and um the Matthew. And Matthew was my target last year and didn't get him. So, he will be my target this year. So, wish me luck on that one. And I'll see you next time on Cards of Comics. Bye. [music] >> [singing]
